There are very few restaurants ( according to my experience ) which know how to prepare the fried duck with cabbage and dumplings. But I am engrained and always try one if on menu. I did the same in this restaurant and .... made the same mistake as many times before. It looked terrible even when it came. Very small portion, dry meat, I suspect the cook that it must heve been prepared already several days ago.
The cabbage seemed to be several years old, terrible taste .... Summary - this duck was too expensive even if it was served for free. My wife does not like when I comment or critisize or even in some cases put the meal back. And today it was a sunny Sunday and we looked forward to have a nice lunch during our trip to Roudnice. So I overcame the temptation and ate it. Now, five hours later after drinking two goblets of digestiff I still feel it ...
To be fair however I have to admit that my wife's meal was ok and other guests looked quite satisfied and, too. But non of them had the duck ....
The non-alcohol draught beer was also not a miracle. Maybe thy should look at the cleaning of the piping.

Stopped at this place after getting stuck in traffic around Prague on long journey home. It seemed to be the only place open on a Monday evening so that alone deserves a couple of stars. Food was typical Czech and plentiful. Menus in English and German if necessary and waitress had smattering of both so it was possible to ask about the dishes and get them to male small changes. The best dish was the roast pork in a gravy with braised sour cabbage and 3 different types of dumpling for 109 kc. The goulash was over salty with very filling fried potato pancakes. Salads were ok but nothing special. Freshly squeezed apple juice highly recommended. All in all it was good for a meal on the go and set us back only about 25 € for 4 for main courses and a drink. Location right on charming main square next to a chateau might be good for lunch or a warm evening if you sit outside.

Good value for money and excellent food. Pleasant to sit outside on a warm evening and eat and drink.

If they ask you to pay for meal in advance, it means you will be waiting for it more than 1 hour:-( Food acceptable.

Fried cheese, duck, dumplings, cabbage, very reasonable price in comparison to the quality, outside seating is nice, inside the restaurant is not very cosy

Quite expensive in local terms, which unfortunately is not fully compensated by the served food. Located in the main square of the town and next to the castle, this restaurant offers both inside and outside seating. The food itself did the job but was not spectacular by any chance. However, most likely there is not a better substitute around so if you are into Czech cuisine, this is probably the place to go in the centre of Roudnice. Expect an average experience.
