We went to Sam Choy's at the recommendation of a friend who is local. He was spot on - great service, great views of the ocean, and great food. Very family friendly with good prices.

Dr. Bottler said of strawberries. "Doubtless God could have made a better berry, but doubtless God never did." Pretty much the same could be said of the fish trio. You can go back and order it again and get a different meal, since the three fish change daily. The sunset changes daily as well. Try their drink the "something..." itch.... More

Walked in just before sunset and they seated us immediately. Guess we were lucky without reservations. This restaurant may have the best sunset dining views in Kona. Bailey our waitress was so helpful with both dining selections and some local tips. Cesar salad to start and then had the Duck and Macadamia nut encrusted chicken....wow! Sam has figured out how... Our family of 8 had lunch here during our trip to the big island. The service was great and the food was very good. The location is beautiful up on the hill overlooking the ocean. Would definitely recommend on your trip to the island.

We had lunch. The location and views are stunning and a cool breeze comes off the hillside making it fresh and comfortable. The service is especially friendly and good. We had the Saimen which was excellent and the fish plate which was good, not excellent. But nice cold beer is on tap, and Kona coffee. Really relaxing and enjoyable. Great... More

We ate here for dinner and the sunset was spectacular. The ahi was prepared wonderfully and the service was outstanding. Our group had a great time and will go back. Get a reservation for outside seating.

We ate here on our last trip to the Big Island and loved it, but after reading recent reviews, we were a little worried. It was a late dinner, only four other tables occupied. I had the braised short ribs which were tender and tasty. My husband had the lamb which he said was very good. Service was attentive, maybe... More

My wife and I were so fired up about eating here as he's one of the original great chefs of Hawaii. The building is a very modest, but inside it's very well decorated and the views are fantastic. It's the food that falls short. We had the ahi poke sampler to start with--one was overly spiced, one was cooked and... More

We drove over an hour to get to what we thought was going to be a new location for the Sam Choy's restaurant we knew and loved and frequented over many years. When we arrived we asked the hostess if Sam was cooking and were shocked to be told he no longer has anything to do with the restaurant, which... More

The view from her is excellent. We have gone 3 times, and each time we swore we will not go back. The food is overpriced and although it is always a great presentation, the chicken has been over cooked, dry and rubbery. The steaks ordered medium rare were well done. They have offered a free desert on more than one... More
