We stayed in one of the cabins here and toured around the southern end of the Black Hills. As long as you don't mind driving up a winding mountain road every day, the location is great. The older cabins are quite rustic, so don't expect anything fancy. It was nice to have the lake and beach to spend time at... More

The restaurant at the lodge has some outdoor and of course, indoor eating. It is an historic old lodge, and the dining area is very nice and pleasant. Because it had been and still was hot outside, we sat inside, which was not very busy; however, it seems like we waited a little too long for someone to come to... More

While in Custer State Park, enjoying the sights and wildlife on the Needles Highway, we stopped at the Sylvan Lake Lodge and decided to have lunch on the outside dining room patio. The weather was perfect, the patio wasn't crowded and the view was pretty nice too. Marcos, our server, was exceptional. He was personable, knowledgeable and attentive. We ordered... More

Service was a little slow when we visited for lunch during the Sturgis rally, but my husband enjoyed his Eisentower club sandwich and tomato soup. As a gluten free diner, my choices were pretty limited, to a couple of salads or a sandwich without bread since they don't offer gluten free bread. I went with a grilled turkey, bacon and... More

On the food alone, I'd give Sylvan Lake Lodge a solid 4, but our server was so rude it greatly affected our opinion of the entire place. It was a dark, rainy afternoon, which made the lodge feel even darker. We were seated by a window which was nice but the huge air conditioning vent in the wall was right... More

My husband and I took our 10 year old and 5 year old grandkids to Sylvan Lake. It's our favorite lake in the Black Hills We went on a Monday, so there were very few people on the lake! It was like we had the entire lake to ourselves? We rented a canoe for an hour. They hadn't ever been... More

Nice location above Sylvan Lake at the entrance to Custer State Park, one of the best state parks in North America. Rooms were clean and comfortable but a bit dated. Still, you're not coming here to stay in the room. Staff was friendly, restaurant served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Not spectacular, but not bad either. Keep in mind when travelling... More

We took advantage of a spectacular July afternoon to have lunch on the patio. The service was adequate, the food and the setting were excellent.
