After a dozen lunches at El Gato Negro, I think it is one of the best hangover cures going. New Orleans is not a Tex Mex kind of town but this one is pretty good. Food Highs: Enchiladas, Tamales, tableside guacand stuffed pablano. Lows: tacos, salsa/chips. But the saving grace is the tequila selection. It is seriously good. Very, very... More

We ate here for lunch in the middle of the afternoon. The service was great and prompt. The margaritas are excellent, especially the mango/pineapple, but there are several flavors to choose from. The burrito was large and tasty. The homemade flan was to die for. I will definitely visit again next time I'm in the Big Easy!!

Arriving in New Orleans for a weekend get-away, was hungry and ready for some local cuisine. Across from the Marriot Courtyard, I found a fabulous Mexican restaurant: El Gato Negro. The menu is full of yummy choices but once I saw Homemade Pulled-Pork Tamales, was ready to order. My traditional lime margarita was delivered soon after the chips and salsa.... More

This is athentic, fresh, lipsmacking, delish Mexican food at its very BEST! Well worth dining in or carryout. We were staying in the Embassy Suites the Lofts, and trying to make it back to our suite to watch the NBA playoffs, so we decided to take the recommendation of some locals and ordered from El Gato Negro. The food was... More

This place had simply amazing fajitas and pineapple cilantro margaritas!! It's an easy walk from the French Quarter and definitely worth making the walk. You won't regret it.

The restaurant was almost completely empty on a Sunday night at 8 o'clock which meant our service was amazing. After we arrived we were given a free bowl of nachos and salsa. The food servings were good sized and tasted great at reasonable prices with a beef burrito costing $14. Would definitely recommend to everyone as everything about it was... More

This place is always a must go when I am in NOLA. We have to have the margaritas, so we always make our way to El Gato Negro for the best we have ever had. The food is great as well, but you know...

When needing a change from Creole/Cajun we found the Black Cat perfect. It was conveniently located just next to Frenchmen Street so we had a tasty meal & headed there after. Waitress was very attentive & was able to swap a chicken dish for shrimp version without difficulty. The guacamole starter was delicious. Tacos smaller than anticipated but you can... More

Went here with my friend while we were visiting New Orleans and it was a great respite from all the Cajun food. The staff was very friendly and fun, the food was delicious, and if you're a mojito fan, they have some of the best!

Staying in French Quarter

Neighborhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
