We just managed to get a little food before 3 o'clock before they were closing down. Soup of the day was shrimp and tasted excellent, the burger was flawless, the three-different-cheese sandwich great and the crabmeat really good. So why not go there.

Our dining party consisted of one vegetarian, one gourmand seeking the full New Orleans nosh experience, one never-eat-breakfast type and one neutral. The vegetarian declared it the best tofu breakfast she'd ever had. The gourmand loved the shrimp and grits. The never-breakfast was wowed by the burrito and declared she would change her ways for the rest of the trip.... More

The restaurant had great reviews but we were very disappointed. Food was big disappointment. Had to pay for each refill of coffee. Never again.

Stopped in for lunch. Loved the feel and look of the place. We found street parking right in front but it was a Tuesday after 12 and it's basically in a residential location. We both love lox so I got the Lox BLT with potato salad and tartest/sour pickle I've ever had. My son got the Bagel Plate with Lox.... More

Service quick and friendly. Creole eggs well prepared and tasty. Fresh squeezed juice delicious. Wish I would have ordered the bananas foster French toast that I saw delivered to a table nearby. It looked and smelled delicious and judging from the sighs of delight I heard, would have been a great choice. Would definitely return.

Stopped here twice during a recent visit to Magazine Street and had a great experience both times. The service was great and the quaint feel of the small place was really nice. All the food was fine, but the bananas foster French toast was terrific! We will be coming back.

The wait to get in was long but the food was worth the wait. The crab melt on a corrisant was absolutely delightful. I can't wait to visit New Orleans to go to Surrey's again.

Banana foster French toast is all you need to know about this place. It is amazing! We also some eggs and bacon but that was average. I could eat the French toast everyday tho.

Very homey place. A long wait but the shrimp and grits were really good. Spicy, flavorful and different than most restaurants. Worth the visit!

Inherent limitations preclude 5 stars, but what this café does it does very well. Based on TA reviews we put off lunch until end of 6-hour drive to NO and so arrived hangry! Wife merely pleased with her avocado something sandwich; but Cuban sandwich was as good as any sandwich I've ever eaten. Gave her a bite and she agreed.... More

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
