Sitting on the corner of two busy streets, a bar atmosphere and definitely a people watching spot. The service was good. A reminder to the northerners, eating is an event in the south, you are there to enjoy the food, drink, music, and the people. We started with crab cakes and crawfish etouffee. Excellent! Roast beef poboy and blackened chicken... More

Best meal in New Orleans. We had a PoBoy, a blackened red fish meal, and blacked shrimp meal. Service was excellent. Highly recommended restaurant.

While New Orleans is known for it's fine eateries, Chartres house is far short of living up to that reputation. The chicken pasta was "just okay," the roast beef po-boy was mediocre at best and the chicken wings....well go to popeyes. Carlos, our waiter was very friendly. I hate writing bad reviews. I'd much rather write a great review on... More

We dined on the balcony which ended up being quite romantic intimate. The food was wonderful, we started with the boudin, which was good. I hadn't tried boudin before, so I have nothing to compare it to, but we both enjoyed it! I had the Duck Empanadas and the Chicken & Andouille Gumbo as an entree and my goodness this... More

We enjoyed a late lunch here after an eventful morning. Our favorites were the green tomato chips and the burger. Conveniently located, they also have a good wine list and an impressive selection of craft beers. Though not a "big name" restaurant, we found them to be very good and reasonably priced.

The reviews I read about the Chartres House made me want this to be our first dinner on our first full week in New Orleans. Boy did we choose well! My wife had the red beans and rice dish. Easily the best red beans and rice dish ever! I had a wonderful red fish dinner. While there are too many... More

We went to the Chartres House while attending a seminar in New Orleans. Found it as we walked through the French Quarter. Sat at the bar and had some excellent appetizers, including fried green tomatoes and boudin sausage. Drinks were excellent, served by "Mike" who was pleasant and professional. Indeed, check it out.

The bartender was a lovely woman with long microbraids, I didn't catch her name. She was a local to New Orleans and she was lovely to chat with. The mint julep she made was delicious!

This a a great historic building and restaurant. The poor boys are outstanding. The appetizers delicious. There is a bar open area, restaurant area and courtyard seating. Wait staff very professional, knows the menu and the history of the city.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighborhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
