About two years ago I went to bar Redux for their comedy open mic. Writing about those travels just now, I realized I've forgotten the name of the bartender who introduced himself and shook my hand as soon as I walked in, took it upon...himself to decide when happy hour ended, (an hour earlier) and introduced me to the regulars. Straight away I knew this was a special place where I felt welcome. A spicy mix of fascinating characters makes this bar like a human gumbo, and that bartender was the Tabasco. The comedy night was great fun, New Orleans has some great comics, and it turned out to be one of the best nights of my entire trip. I could not recommend this bar any higher to lovers of interesting people and genuine atmosphere.More

Keys to a dive bar are drinks, company and atmosphere--Bar Redux has all these, plus fine wings. The mixed drinks are strong, & there's a good range of beers, mostly local. Of course the people are friendly here--this is New Orleans and we're drinking. They...have a great outdoor area with stage, plus some tables on the sidewalk and small indoor area. Atmosphere? How many bars have trains come by right next door, and a several story, well-lit & graffitied abandoned naval station across the street? And in the restroom, an Easy Rider (filmed in part in Norleans) signed by Peter Fonda.More

to catch a local show. The bartenders at Redux won't even charge you for that ginger ail. That doesn't change the fact that they're working, so tip.

We paid a visit for the quiz night, abysmally low scores but fabulous crowd. We didn't eat but the food that came out to others smelled and looked delicious. The courtyard was reminiscent of a place that we love in Mississippi called 'The Shed', with...all of the art, the tin roof and the great atmosphere. Before we knew it Midnight struck! The service was great, the people were lively and it was a great atmosphere.More

We found this really cool bar in the 9th Ward. Nice people, good bar food, and they were playing Cumbia music and everyone was dancing. Noticed they have a night where they screen classic film noir movies!

My husand and I recently stayed at the Lookout Inn maybe three or four houses down and visited on our first night in town for some beers and food. There were two guys playing their guitars and singing and some people reading poetry. The backyard...space was quirky and comfortable, the beer was cold and the food (burger, cuban and fries) was simply delicious! Fun place to visit - I wish we could have made it back and spent more time there, but we will be back!More

We spent probably too much time here while we were staying in the Bywater. Our Inn was just down the street. The drinks were cheap. The bartenders were rad. The patrons were eclectic. What more could you want in a bar?

We love this local! The food was fantastic - cooked by Kevin who is the super friendly part owner. Great music playing on speakers while we tucked into jerk pork poboys and Louisiana wings in the back yard. Perfect start to night before heading into...town.More

We stayed close to this place so dropped in on the way home. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall kinda place. We were surprised to walk in to a busy bar with live music. It was very busy but you...couldn't tell from the outside which is great for the residents.More
