I got into NOLA on a business trip this week. It was 9 PM by the time I got downtown and seemingly everywhere was closed already. But not Backspace! They were open, the bartender was great, they had tons of beer and even better...food. I...will be making this a regular spot for visits to town now because they gave me food when no one else did.More

Backspace....I used to love you. Covid hit. Life has been tough for everyone. You are back open. But what happened? You've changed - but not in a good way. Gone is the care and attention to the writing on the chalkboard of your 12 artisan...seasonal cocktails that you took pride in creating. Your hipster staff was cool and professional - totally into spirits and everyone wishing to share knowledge. The place was bustling with a mix of "out of towners" and local industry staff before or after their shifts, knowing where to get great pub food and artisan drinks. I get it. Covid. But you're re-opened. The town has been slammed the last three weeks. We walked in. The chalkboard is blank other than $2 PBR written on a 30-degree angle. The bartender didn't know what goes in a Rye Manhattan. The food was previously great pub food. The menu today is tiny and scary. The chef was out during our visit after cutting himself. We used to love you. We understand the situation and will give you another (no...several) more chances to restore your glory as our favorite "hidden gem" in the Quarter. Please take care of yourself.More

Okay so I got a pork belly burger/sandwich and fries and my boyfriend got the burger and both were AWESOME. And the fries though omg. Drinks were good too. Really good atmosphere, the bartender treated us like friends!

Found this place on our way back to our hotel. Stopped in for a last drink or two. Great interior! Lots of fun.

My wife, friend and I took to walking the French Quarter, keeping to the lesser traveled streets. After a morning full of walking and looking at everything we were getting hungry, when we found ourselves on Chartres Street just north of Canal when we came...across the Backspace Bar & Kitchen, a Literary themed bar and restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. They had just opened for the day and we had our choice of seats. we took a booth toward the back. The place isn't large, but quaint. We ordered our drinks and our food. For my meal I ordered their Cuban, and for my drink I got the Sazerac. My wife and friend each got a burger and my friend got the Sidecar. As we waited for the food we looked around the place and took in the vibe. Soon our drinks arrived and our food came shortly there after. The bar started to fill by then. My cocktail was excellent. So much so that I followed it up with a Death till 2 AM, again an excellent libation. We ate and enjoyed our drinks while we discussed the books we were each reading as well as books we'd all read. It was a very pleasant lunch. We definitely planned a return trip, but were unable to make it work. Next time I'm in NOLA I definitely plan on returning.More

Ordered the burger, fries, and wings. I am pretty sure the wings were the cause of why I spent the entire evening throwing up. The fries on their own were terrible. The burger was good though. Otherwise it would've been 1⭐️

We were looking for a low key spot to grab a drink and bite to eat before meeting up with friends in the Quarter. This place was perfect, away from the busier section of Chartres. The bartender was friendly and mixed up a tasty margarita...so don't be afraid to try something off menu. My husband enjoyed one of the signature cocktails. We shared a plate of the housemade gnocchi with squash puree that was so delicious and satisfying. Definitely try it if it is still on the menu! Next time we are in town, we will seek out this little bar for a great bar experience.More

While we tried to eat nothing but local food on our trip, we had probably the best hamburger I've ever had in my life here! Believe them when they tell you to change nothing on the burger and have it as prepared...it is delicious!

This is the second time I’ve eaten the burger here and it’s hands down the best I’ve ever had. I travel for work which leads me to eating in a lot of different restaurants, so this is high praise from me. If you’re in New...Orleans - do yourself a favor, stop by and see Jay and the rest of the team! Burger was so good I ate it before taking the picture! 🤦🏻‍♂️More

When I say it’s the absolute best burger ever, I mean it is THE BEST BURGER I’ve ever eaten. I skipped all the other restaurants in town to come back just to have to this burger, seriously. The drinks are great, too! Our bartender, Jay,...was wonderful and made us feel like family. It felt like I was hanging out with old friends in the quaint and homey atmosphere. Every time I come to New Orleans, I will be back here. I loved every bit of it!More
