Had my first visit to Markey's last weekend. The place was busy which was great to see. The place is very laidback. The young lady working the bar was very attentive to her customers. The service was quick. The pizza that we had as a snack was good. I look forward to a return visit over Memorial Day Weekend.

We loved the feel of the place long bar, huge draft selection. The beer was cold, the shots were generous but over 6 days we saw 5 bartenders. One friendly, two ok, one "meh" and one sour, dour and not interested in serving.

Markey’s is one of those places where you just feel at home. Good beer and great bartenders (hey Josh!), who won’t give you grief for ordering a cocktail. Many video displays for armchair sports enthusiasts, plus darts and a vintage shuffleboard game for the more hands-on customers. Sadly, the once-awesome kitchen is closed … at least until someone can convince Roy it’s worth opening it again.

New Orleans has so many great neighborhood bars and this was our favorite. The Marigny and the Bywater neighborhoods are a great place for nightlife.

We stopped in for a break from the craziness in the quarter and were very happy we did. Bartenders are great and friendly, drinks were good. The kind of bar where you feel like you've been there a hundred times even though it is your first visit. Try the Dublin Donkey.

Right in the middle of the By-water area is this hole in the wale dive bar. Decent prices yet surrounded by more pretentious places. Grab a beer or a taco and veg it’s cool

We have stopped here twice in the past 2 months and enjoyed the drinks and apps from the food station. Nice bartenders that make great drinks.

Stayed in The Bywater and walked to this corner bar. It was crowded but cozy. Definitely a good place to hang out with friends.

The owner of the Airbnb we were staying at recommended this place. We went there for lunch. The food was good. Prices were reasonable. Service for lunch was essentially self serve. We seated ourselves, we ordered at the bar and then we waited for the coaster to buzz. Seems to be a popular place with the locals. Definitely a good place for basic bar food and a good drink.

This place was just a block from our air B&B property. We used it before going into town & for a final nightcap on our return. Grearvplace. Massive collection of brews & a reasonable "late night" menu. Very friendly & welcoming & certainly a great find

We rented a house in Bywater and discovered upon arrival that Markey's was just across the street! What a lucky break for us! Great bar food- the cheeseburger was outstanding. So were the wings! And we got to teach a few of the locals how to play shuffleboard! Great place- great dive bar location!

Local bar great for drinking, with an added bonus of very good bar food served into late night. Low-key. Good jukebox. Visited during Jazzfest. Crowd had a good vibe. Located in a residential neighborhood.

This is the happening place in the Bywater area for drinks and sports. We arrived very late but the kitchen was still open and stays open until 2am. The sandwich we had was great. Fresh hot shrimp po boys.

Ninth Ward
People focus too much on the hardships so closely associated with this well known working class neighborhood when what’s really most remarkable about the tightknit community is its indefatigable spirit of rebirth and ability to stay true to its roots. Perhaps not an ideal destination for those visitors who tend to keep well within their comfort zones when traveling or those with bucket lists filled to the brim with top tourist attractions, the Ninth Ward is nonetheless there for those who are most keen to discover the places they encounter. But it’s not all about learning lessons when going to the Ninth Ward. With its “Living Museum” and “steamboat houses” and a long enduring dedication to preserving local culture, there’s more than enough to see and do during a daytime tour of the area.
