We had heard of Mulate's prior to our trip to New Orleans. It was also the first recommendation by the staff at Embassy Suites. The interior was very roomy and clean. Tables were spaced far enough apart so that we weren't sitting too close to anyone. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the fried catfish and slaw. My wife... More

very popular place. was expecting great New Orleans jazz instead of country music. Food is average (seafood combo was not the best I had), but I recommend the Bread pudding. Very good atmosphere although the place is huge and crowded. must be seen !

We were on our final leg of our family vacation and stopped here to eat supper with some friends who live south of New Orleans. We had requested a certain kind of Cajun food along with some music and this is what our friends choose. We couldn't have been more pleased. There was a total of 14 of us, but,... More

One can say it's not so nice, I'd say it's OK. You get what you pay for and service is really honest and authentic. Friendly. Food is fresh, well produced. Maybe the presentation could be better. No chance to have a pre dinner drink and then move to the table without having to pay for the drinks before you can... More

We found this place while walking back to our hotel and decided to drop in for a late supper. We ordered the stuffed mushroom appetizer and jambalaya and shared. We weren't super hungry and this was just the right amount and hit the spot. Both items were super fresh and flavorful. There was so much to pick from on the... More

My husband and I shared a seafood platter. Dood was good. The catfish was really tasty amd perfectly cooked. Drinks are also pricey. Service was reaalyngood and atmosphere very friendly. Overall, w... More

We went to Mulate's because of the recommendation of a hop on hop off tour guide. I wish I hadn't gone. This is a Cajun type restaurant. It has a cajun band that played music. My boyfriend and I ordered a seafood platter. The platter had tiny popcorn shrimp, three medium sized shrimp, fried oysters, something in a shell that... More

The mixed platter was good, but really sought out this place for the music. The Cajun band was awesome and the dance floor was open to anyone who wanted to give it a try. Good food, great entertainment. We will return to this quaint restaurant.

I was so excited to go back to Mulate's as my family really enjoyed our visit last time we visited in 2008. This experience was the exact opposite in every way! Waitress was dismissive inattentive, food was disgusting and in some ways uneatable, and the zydeco was boring. We started with alligator bites, both fried and blackened. The fried was... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
