My previous review was excellent, unfortunately this review is scathing. The slovenly dressed waiter was completely unprofessional, rude and extremely inattentive. After being served cold coffee our waiter disappeared for 20 minutes; after a few "words" we walked out, never to return to what was...once our "go to'"place.More

Absolutely fantastic food in a clean friendly corner building off of the beaten path. You can have a conversation here without shouting at one another.

We ate two dinners here. The food was pretty good and it was close to our hotel and easy. My husband ordered the Prix Fixe dinner both nights which included your choice of starter, main and dessert. First night he ordered Gumbo (not seafood) which...was great. Blackened Cat fish was also really good the side he ordered was macaroni and cheese which was interesting but not what he expected. It was made with cream cheese and parmesan. He had Bread Pudding for dessert. While the bread pudding was good it wasn't up to my husband's gold standard ( his own ). The other dinner he ordered the Crawfish Boullettes which he enjoyed. They are served with a spicy remoulade heavy on the horseradish. The main was the shrimp and beef stuffed peppers which were unique and delicious. We both ordered fried green tomatoes as a side and only tasted them as they were not to our liking. Hard, fried, bland and served with same horseradish sauce as the starter. They were out of peach cobbler so he ordered the pecan chocolate pie which he loved. I tasted it and didn't care for the strong molasses flavor. Unfortunately I didn't make as good choices as my husband. I ordered the chicken and dumplings expecting a chicken based stew with dumplings but what I was served was cooked in a small cast iron frying pan with a lot of biscuits baked on top. If there had been a description I would not have ordered this. Flavor was good but more like a casserole no gravy/sauce no creaminess. I ate the interior and left the biscuits. We had the same server both nights and he was very attentive and remembered us from the first night. The other dinner I ordered the Shrimp and Crab Fettuccine. My husband really liked it I thought it was ok but mainly tasted like a glorified tuna casserole. As a side I ordered the Cochon Greens which were very good. The restaurant does not have a liquor license but will allow you to bring a bottle of wine and charges a $10 corking charge. Personally I don't find that objectionable except they do not provide wine glasses just small ordinary glasses. If you are looking for decent food at reasonable price EAT has that. If you are picky ask questions before you order since there are no descriptions on the menu. We liked the atmosphere; a quiet neighborhood type place music in background but not too loud to talk. The bathroom could be cleaner.More

We were in NOLA a couple of days early to board a Western Caribbean cruise. On the suggestion of our hotel bartender, we decided to try Eat. First, it’s a cute little corner restaurant on the fringe of the French Quarter, away from the crowded...touristy area. Food was great and service was friendly and attentive. My only regret was ordering the BBQ shrimp. I knew it would be messy and a lot of work. Problem with this was the shrimp were VERY difficult to peel. Waiter kindly adjusted my bill. We started with the blue cheese and fig tart. WOW, was this delicious!! Girlfriend had shrimp and crab fettuccine... again delicious. Dinner was finished off with bread pudding. Wish I could get have licked the bowl!! Hope you could tell, Eat is highly recommended.More

Our dining experience was a bit weird, not a fancy place. Food was tasty and good but seemed the entrees were pre-made and re-heated due to being served too quickly from order time. Negative to me was the gumbo, which was warm not hot and...others in our group had similar experience with their entrees being served. Mac’n cheese was different while tasted ok was basically spaghetti with cheese on it. I don’t think this will be a return place next time we are in the city. Note: establishment does not have alcohol license but allows bottles from outside with “corking” fee. ($10)More

One of our local Air BnB guides recommended this place and it did not dissappoint! So clean and great service! We stopped for brunch. I had the omelette and was large enough to feed 3 people. Great deli meats as well! I highly recommend!

Pros: The service was great and the area is really beautiful. Coffee and tea were delish, as were the banana cinnamon balls. For the most part the food was good. Cons: The portions are tiny tiny tiny. It didn't even look like I had an...entire egg scrambled on my plate. Also the bacon was so hard and chewy it was almost impossible to eat. I feel like keep it simple here and you'll be OK.More

My wife and I found this one when we were turned about and a bit lost on the fringe of the French Quarter. It's a clean, well lit little restaurant and the food is really very well done. Rich and full of flavor, I really...enjoyed the food there. My only complaint was that our waiter seemed bored and disinterested in his job and customersMore

Our first night in New Orleans we went to Eat on the strength of it appearing in Lonely Planet. It's a nice looking place and the menu sounded good. We walked in over an hour before advertised close, Important to note. It's BYOB only ($10...corkage at time of writing) so I left to get a bottle of wine from a shop 1 block away. We ordered our food. The starters arrived promptly and were tasty. Good so far. Before my wife had finished her starter, still knife and fork in hand and a mouthful of food, our mains arrived and were put on the table without comment. Prompt service is good but this was too early and the beginning of evidently rushing us to leave. Shortly after this we were the only ones left in the restaurant, which wouldn't be a problem but within minutes the music was pointedly turned off. The only sounds were cleanup sounds and the radio from the kitchen. My wife felt that the staff were looking at us frequently, making her feel like we had to leave. She went to the bathroom after finishing her main but it was locked. She walked past the waiter to get there and nothing was said. We felt awkward and fed up so when our desserts arrived we didn't feel much like saying that one of them was not the one ordered. We decided to just eat them anyway and leave. (I acknowledge that if we had brought this up they may have changed it. But we were so uncomfortable we wanted to go.) Unfortunately there was some issue with using our British credit card (we had been in America for 3 weeks so far with no issues and used it since with no issues.) We offered a debit card and my wife was directly asked for her pin number instead of being asked to put it in to a machine. This didn't work either so we paid cash, we luckily had just enough. The food was enjoyable. Everything else was an uncomfortable and disappointing experience. We've never felt so rushed and unwelcome in a restaurant. No exaggeration. It was almost laughable.More

A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living
