Giovanni is not a typical Italian restaurant, in that much of the regular menu is a la carte'. Dinner for two with drinks can easily run over $100 before tip. With that in mind, we ordered from the Coolinary Menu ($39 per person not including beverages) and had no complaints about portion size or quality. The pork with raspberry chipotle... More

We went Saturday night. Very disappointed in service & portions. For the people that ordered the oyster appetizer, they didn't all come out with the same # of oysters. Menu says 2 meatballs but we were only served 1 with a small portion of spaghetti and had to beg for bread & water refills. Dining room is generally loud because... More

We went for our anniversary dinner and were able to get a last minute reservation. It definitely has been updated since our last visit several years ago. Chef Dave's cheesy garlic bread as an appetizer was so very good! We got traditional Italian dishes--spaghetti and meatballs and fettucini alfredo, both also wonderful.

Great service. Our steaks were cooked to perfection. Wine list adequate. Entertained by a beautiful soprano opera singer over dinner. Special !

We chose Cafe Giovanni because it was only a block away from the House of Blues. We had 6:30 reservations and were seated promptly, but the 2 course dinner took two hours, and we were cutting it close for the concert. The service was average. We had to ask for bread. The prices were high for a simple Italian restaurant.... More

We had a large party and was easily accommodated for dinner. The food was good and they had a lady singing opera songs live.

Two times we went to Cafe Giovanni. Once as a group of three, and once a group of six. Both visits we were all in awe of the great quality of the food and dessert. I highly recommend this place for Top Notch Italian. - P.S. You really want to try the housemade Ginger Ale. We had people who don't... More

We saved dining here for our last night in NOLA. Very, very good food and service. Thursday night had live music which was very relaxing. I had a soft shell crab special with garlic mashed potatoes and my guest had seafood/avocado salad. Both entrees were ample in portion and delicious. Iced summertime drinks were very welcome with the 90*+ temperatures... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
