Was seated and waited 45 minutes before someone even bothered to take our drink(we had to hunt someone down), food was average seafood. I wouldn't bother going out of your way when you can eat the same food downtown

Better food than NOLA. Love the casual atmosphere. Everything was good. Super spicy horseradish for oysters. Delicious!

...but they wouldn't try them after all! Great old restaurant with lots of local people and great food. Service was fast and friendly. Lots of families eating Louisiana favorites like raw oysters and crawfish. Couldn't quite get our young grandkids from back East to try the oysters though. Maybe next year!

We went for the crawfish, but must have hit them at the wrong time of day. Got there about 2pm, and the bugs were room temp and didn't impress at all. We've had much fresher, larger, and hotter elsewhere. The rest of the dinner was ok, but all in all, we were unimpressed. The service was good, however.

Good food, good service, all for a great price. Truly a comeback place. Charbroiled Oysters, Fried chicken. Fried onion rings and fried bell peppers. Doesn't get much better than this!

Friends who grew up going to this very local spot recommended it to my husband and me. Driving up, I thought, oh gosh what a dive. I walked in to a seasoned but clean local eatery, filled with locals on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered PoBoys, me the Roast Beef, my husband Fried Shrimp. I sank my teeth into THE... More

We ate at Frankie and Johnny's with our daughters while visiting New Orleans for the weekend. We shared charbroiled oysters, fried onion rings and bell peppers and fried chicken. Everything was delicious and the girl that waited on us was fun and welcoming. Highly recommend this restaurant for a casual lunch or dinner.

We went for a late lunch - in NOLA for a conference - and I wanted some good Louisiana food. Frankie and Johnny's was friendly, and has a mix of locals and visitors (99% locals and 1% visitors!!!). Our table has a dozen of the baked oysters - cooked with cheese, wine, butter and love!! They were the best I... More

The food was simple and excellent. We shared all the different plates at the table and each was surprisingly tasty. Our lunch was one of the best on our trip to NO and would go back again. The consensus was great food, pleasant atmosphere, local cooking, giving the place a group yum.

I love finding a great neighborhood dive and that's what I felt this place was! Great food, laid back atmosphere and a bar. The staff was friendly and efficient but joked around with us which added to the experience. Great place to get your fill of crawfish! The oysters were outstanding here as well. The gumbo was good, but not... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
