I met up with a friend who was staying at Harrah's Hotel and we had dinner at Ernst Cafe, She was on a motorized scooter and wanted to keep it out of the way while we ate so we went to the back part of the restaurant near a sink which was not the best atmosphere. Our server Blake was a friendly young man. I ordered a cup of gumbo (very small for $8) which was 5 on a 10 scale since some of the rice was a bit hard. I also ordered the Southwest eggrolls ($12) which would have been good but were way too spicy even for a NOLA native like myself. Overall I would have expected better since this area caters to tourists.

Food was okay and the service was below average. I rate good places by would I want to go back if in the area and this is not a place I would go back. I got the Cajun Nachos and they were really good. I also got gumbo and it was average not bad just okay. My wife got the cheese sticks and she said they were good. I ordered a smaller portion of the gumbo and they charged me for a larger portion. We split the bill and didn't realize the mistake until we got back to hotel when we saw the picture of the bill from a friend. I went inside to ask for a to go box and a server said to give him a second. He made several trips back and forth right by me and didn't get it or acknowledge me.

After being ignored for 10 minutes while sitting at the Manning Bar next door, the Ernst Cafe was what is expected in Southern Hospitality. Shout out to Marvin for providing great service and food recommendations while enjoying ice cold beer at very reasonable prices. Skip the big name places nearby and visit Marvin and crew at Ernst Cafe.

We sort of stumbled upon Ernst Cafe as we were hungry and desperate because things were mostly closed. We ended up coming back two more times during our trip. Cheap beer, plentiful and tasty food. Friendly service. What's not to love? Oh, BTW, do get the roast beef po' boy. I guess I was expecting sliced roast beef, like a deli, but it was freakin' POT ROAST. Interesting spice profile. Cumin maybe? Delicious, whatever. Eat it!

Outstanding place for food, beer and enjoying time with your friends and family. In town for the Sugar Bowl and Ernst Cafe was THE place. The beer prices are fantastic, food is excellent and service was awesome! Really can't say enough about this place. They handled the large crowds like pros as they were busy from open to close because it is that good. We had a group of 8+ and think we ordered everything on the menu at some point during our 3 visits. The nachos, fried pickles, wings, and chicken tenders were the crowd pleasers but everything we ordered was great. I have been to New Orleans on several occasions and my only regret is not finding this place sooner. This will be our go to moving forward. Personal shout out to our server during our stay(s) - Marvin. He was awesome, made sure had drinks in our hands at all times and simply made our trip better.

Fantastic place for lunch, fresh food and great atmosphere. The po boy bread is delicious and I highly recommend the crab cakes and grilled shrimp. Service is great and the prices are stupendous.

Gumbo was great! Fries awesome! They need a new bloody Mary mix though, fresher bread and then were out of tea which was odd. If you're looking to drink on the cheap, this is def the place to go. Domestics were $1.25!! 😱 Also had video poker which was fun👍

Stopped here in the afternoon for a bite and drinks. Drink menu showed 1$,2$,3$, beers and were cold. The food was lacking. Chips and Queso was a little watery and the chips were like rubber. Disappointing. Again great place to drink...

We found this cafe/bar entirely by accident and were glad we had. The food is not bad although do not expect gourmet cuisine it will mean you can eat. The service is friendly and casual and the young lady remembered us when we went back. Loved the Hurricanes!! good value on beer too. Casual vibe but cheerful and friendly.

We stopped in just for a glass of ice water and to escape the oppressive heat for a minute. We ended up ordering lunch, and we were so glad we did! My son in law said “That was the best burger I have ever had!” I ordered the boudain balls, and my only complaint is that I can’t DoorDash some when I make it back home to Tennessee. Our server was upbeat and polite, and seemed like someone I’d like to invite to my next BBQ. If you find yourself in the French Quarter and hungry, you have to pay them a visit!

My friends and I visited during Mardi Gras. We walked in and no one greeted or acknowledged us, every table was in some sort of disarray so you could not tell if someone was still eating or had left. We didn’t know who to ask as the host/hostess weren’t available or seen. However as we were walking through the small establishment someone (a worker) insulted one of my friends by telling her to walk faster because he had a job to do. First off the place is small with minimum walking space in the aisles or between tables. There is no “ hurry up” when there is no place to go. The table we sat at was dirty with food and dirty plates and glasses from the previous guests. After the dishes were removed we had to ask for the table to be wiped off even though it was obviously wet and dirty. Our waiter was great and saved the day. He was very nice and respectable while the young boy who offended my friend was literally slamming dishes and rolling his eyes at my friend because she reported his remark to a lady that she assumed was his supervisor. The food was really good and came fairly fast. In had a dark storm cocktail with my meal. It was good once I got over initial taste of strong ginger. My meal, the Gulf fish Ernst cafe, consisted of catfish with crawfish etouffee over it. Omg it was so good. It came with Cajun jambalaya which was also good. Even though the food was delicious I wouldn’t eat here again. It was too small and the music level was too loud for such a small space.

Hello, I wanted to reach out and apologize for the comments of the waiter during your visit. Mardi Gras can get a little hectic around here but that is no reason for anyone to be spoken to that way. I'm glad your waiter was able to turn the situation around. His name is Andre and we are lucky to have him as part of our team. The Gulf fish Ernst is one of my favorite dishes, you made a great choice! Thank you for the review and bringing this to my attention. Have a great day.

We arrived to NOLA on a Tuesday evening and were hungry after a day of travel. We walked around downtown to find a place to eat and this place was open and had a table. Due to Covid, they had limited staff. I think they only had one waitress working all of the tables. She did a good job despite the overwhelming task. The area is a nice place to eat. The food was just average. Some of the food was cold when it came out. I had a shrimp po boy. The bread was a little tough and the shrimp was very salty.

Can’t beat the beer prices ($1-3)!! It was NYE, after the parade, so pretty busy. The waitresses and staff were going bananas so it appeared to not make a pleasant experience for them and service was pretty slow. Had crab cakes, crab cake sandwich, BBQ Mac & Cheese and Caesar Salad. All were good. Seat yourself place. Got a great table outside.

We stumbled into this place looking for somewhere to what college football. We were pleasantly surprised to see it had been serving the community since 1902! Also, they have a $1, $2, and $3 beer menu with beers you would actually want to drink. No strings attached!!! Highly recommend if you are looking for a fun neighborhood bar environment with pub style food.

Had a great time on Saturday evening but Sunday evening was a different story. The bartender was doing shots with other patrons and ignored us when we went to the bar to order drinks (I think it was because several of us had Bengals shirts on an Cincinnati had just beaten the saints). When we finally got his attention, he said that he was closing soon and not serving anymore. We got up to leave and he began serving other patrons, we went back to order again and he refused service again. We have been to this bar a couple times before with great times each time, but I don't recommend it to anyone now.
