My daughter treated me for my birthday here. The waiter steered me towards the shrimp and grits - and he was not wrong! They were not the cream-based Charleston style shrimp and grits I was familiar with. Definitely a Cajun flair with roasted tomatoes. I’ve...never had shrimp and grits like this - so I guess I’ll have to come back here to try them again! Charming atmosphere. Very helpful waiter.More

Nice restaurant and nice ambiance and very nice staff. For this excellent restaurant I would have looked forward to a bit of more French classics (higher price fine) instead of the hamburger and waffles offered which were offered among other items. Would be back to...try them for dinner.More

An unusual Tomatillo Bloody Mary followed by a nice gourmet meal well prepared, superb Redfish, good Chenin blanc, a surprising flan.

Atchafalaya delivers on ambience, flavor, innovation and gracious hospitality. From the lovely outdoor table to the perfect martinis, from the entrees to the desserts, my guest and I absolutely enjoyed every aspect of our experience. Kudos to Corey for being congenial and knowledgeable. She was...the epitome of southern warmth.More

Went here on a Saturday based on reviews and in search of brunch with live music. Not Disappointed. This may have been our favorite meal the whole time we were in Nola. the Duck Hash had so many layers of deliciousness, truly an elevated dish....Hubs took the crabcake benedict and again we were sopping up every last morsel. the band was awesome trio, guitar, fiddle, and what looked like a lap steel guitar - and they were playing some pretty deep 70s rock classics cuts. just great. very cute inside and the neighborhood (Magazine Street in garden district) has a lot of fun shopping.More

What an amazing dinner! It was our 30th wedding anniversary weekend and the night before we walked out of commanders palace after waiting 2 hours for our food so we really wanted a great meal! Great atmosphere when we arrived-seated promptly. The waitress (HD) was...so warm and friendly. We started with cocktails-spring thyme and a cherry blossom. Both very springy and light. My husband has a shellfish allergy and HD assured us they could modify any item for him. What a nice touch! We had the kale salad-very refreshing! The strawberries were a nice touch. HD recommended the shrimp and grits for me and the pork chop for my husband. Both were cooked perfectly. Best grits I’ve ever had-smooth and creamy. My husband loved the pork chop. For dessert we took HDs recommendation again for the blue cheese flan. Wonderful and creamy. Overall top notch experience and we will come back if ever back in NOLA!More

High marks all around -- food, service and atmosphere. No wonder a friend, a local, picked Atchafalaya for us for a fun night out. Great mix of feeling neighborhood casual while offering upscale quality. I particularly enjoyed the gumbo and the low country shrimp and grits.

I think we just got a dud waitress. But why have a dud waitress on staff? It’s been a while since I’ve felt that weirdly unwelcome in an establishment. We were excited to be in Nola again after 8 years, loved the neighborhood and the...sweet little kitchen garden, loved the inside, but did not love the server’s attitude of “I’m going to be professional but still exude a general attitude of disapproval and make you feel like what I do I do begrudgingly and minus any warmth and charm.” Our smiles and kindness and politeness were completely lost on this woman. She should take a page out of water refiller’s playbook; she brought joy and a welcoming vibe. Honestly, I was not impressed by the food. The waffle stood out as fantastic and beautiful. The gumbo, I get that it was a dark roux, but still pretty thin and just okay (very nice presentation though), the biscuit was average to the point where we didn’t finish it, the bywater Bloody Mary was literally all tomatillo, it was so revolting that instead of being able to savor it, I had to down it to avoid having to taste it, and when my husband very politely told our server that the cough-inducingly over-peppered regular Bloody Mary was a a couple levels too spicy and would she mind bringing some more tomato juice, what she should have done was apologize and offer to remake it. He would have declined and accepted the tomato juice. It was not advertised as spicy and wasn’t spicy in a good way ( there wasn’t even horseradish or barely any), just poorly made. Instead she just said sure I can bring you some v8. She didn’t do anything wrong, she just didn’t do anything right. She wasn’t kind. And when you are paying over a hundred dollars for a so called “southern” brunch place that can’t even do a proper biscuit or Bloody Mary and you feel uncomfortable being there, what is the point? Spend your money elsewhere. One of the owners was gracious and stopped by our table before we left but it’s kind of a moot point by then. Keep a tighter grip on your house. Or maybe the young ones just don’t care and will keep coming.More

We visited here for a Sunday jazz brunch. While the menu isn’t robust, everything they did offer looked and sounded absolutely delicious. We ordered the Tuscan eggs (for my vegetarian friend) and I had the Chicken and waffles. The chicken had just the right amount...of spice- and the corn salsa on top was a nice touch! The music was good, based on where we were sitting we couldn’t see the band, but could hear them in more of an atmosphere level. We would still carry on a conversation easily while they played. The location is nice as well, it was off the main streets, and a perfect spot for a break while exploring the garden district.More

Don't hesitate. If you're going to NOLA anytime in the next few months, make a reservation now. The soups are good and don't leave without having the shrimp and grits. Note that it's a huge helping. The server suggested that we share it and we...found the half serving to be perfect. My husband ordered the king cake sundae and it was fabulous. Again, it's very large so be prepared!More

Dined at atchafalaya on Saturday night with colleagues. We were all blown away. Each course was better than the next. I had the fried green tomatoes, chili rubbed pork chop, and bread pudding. Also worth mentioning the cornbread muffins, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts and potatoes were...all great!More

We visited for happy hour drinks one of the days of our stay. This is a real 'hidden gem' in NOLA, we loved it! The cocktails are a bargain and there's a good selection included. We had; Last Word, Vieux Carre, and Friends & Neighbors....All were excellent and the staff were really friendly and helpful too. Shame it was closed for two of the days of our stay as we wanted to go back. They have a vegetable/herb garden outside that I guess they use in their food which is a great thing.More

This is our new favorite restaurant in NOLA and I don't know about the other entrees on the menu, but the shrimp and grits is out of this world. One thing to know about it before you order is that it's very large. You have...to have big, big appetite, skimp on appetizers, or both. The soups were good, but not the stars of the show. Same for the desserts. For my money I would focus my attention on eating my entree.More

They have a lot of small plates available that should be fine. You can review their menu online and contact the owners directly.
