We enjoyed coffee, a delicious roasted garlic and herb infused vodka Bloody Mary, duck hash, and chicken and biscuits. The latter was so big that we had to take half of it home. Food and service were superb. Only negative is that the cheese garlic grits side was way too salty. Good live music started just as we were leaving, around 11:10am, so book a later seating if you want to enjoy it.

The restaurant is very quaint ~ and the host was incredibly welcoming. Previous review was spot on ~ we had a cranky server as well. Kind of feel like he was put off because he had to work? Everyone else seemed nice though so agree we got the unlucky straw on that one...that said food was good. Best shrimp and grits that I had. The cremoux was a good dessert but really tiny. The oysters were also lovely ~ we spent over $200 including a 20% tip despite the awkward service. Would I recommend? Only if in neighborhood and if you are looking to chance on the service.

We were in New Orleans for 5 full days, and we ate a ton of great food. This was my standout. The food was delicious and the service was perfect (although it is a breakfast/brunch spot that REQUIRES reservation, they can be fully booked the entire day). First my gf and I split the fried green tomatoes, which were really good if not mind blowing. A very good sauce and they were cooked perfectly. The main courses were phenomenal though. I had the chicken and biscuits, which is covered in a really nice, savory sauce. The chicken was perfectly fried in clean oil and the biscuits were big and fluffy. The real knockout was the duck hash my gf had, though. Neither of us like duck normally, but that dish is amazing. It’s hard to describe the flavor, just totally unique. It knocked our socks off. The only part of the meal that was just okay was the side of bacon, which we really didn’t need but it could’ve been crispier. Still, it’s bacon so not bad by any means. TLDR make a reservation and get the duck hash, even if it doesn’t look like your thing. It is out of this world!

It means a lot to call out a meal as being the best on a trip to New Orleans, a place full of so much fantastic cuisine. Out last meal of this trip, however, was hands down the winner--Sunday brunch at Atchafalaya. I went for the excellent bloody mary bar and the steak and eggs. While it was all delicious, the broccoli cheddar salad stole the show and complemented everything perfectly. I spent the whole flight home trying to work out how to replicate it in my own kitchen! My SO had the duck hash. They thought the portion was on the small side at first, especially compared to my plate, but said it was so rich that they wouldn't have been able to finish another bite. The flavor combinations were spot on. They also said that the coffee was excellent. The live music was good and just loud enough in the main room, the service was friendly, and the vibe was casual. Overall an excellent way to finish out our trip!

Lived in Garden District for over seven years and this was our first visit. What a wonderful evening and meal! So looking forward to a return trip. No complaints from our group as one had the Gumbo, one had the Free-form Blue Crab Ravioli and two shared the Summer Cornbread Salad. All were wonderful! Then, the ladies ordered the Home Place Pastures Pork Chop and the men the Low-Country Shrimp and Grits. Pork chop cooked to perfection! Sides that came with it were fantastic. Grits with the shrimp were creamy and rich. No one complained. Both couples then shared the Five Spiced Bread Pudding which was great. On our way out, the owner, Tony, asked us about our evening and then followed us out the door and we spent 10 minutes talking with him. LOVE this place.

We’ve dined at Atchafalaya on a regular a basis for years, but it has become a nearly weekly destination ever since we ditched Houston’s for better food and service. Atchafalaya is great for food, service, and ambiance. Service has always been attentive, friendly and unobtrusive. The wine list is decent, but not lengthy. Wine pours are average. The bar is small, but was lively pre-pandemic. The atmosphere is relaxed. Rooms are decorated with paintings of local architecture by a local artist (I should recall the name of the artist, but my memory does not serve me well in my old age). Most people dress casually, but nicely. Food style is creole/Cajun. I love their shrimp and grits. They always have nice fish dishes. Fish is always cooked correctly and not over-done. The ravioli appetizer is always a good choice, as is the fried green tomato app. I’ve always had great meals here. And I think you will too. This restaurant is locally owned.

We love coming to Atchafalaya every time we come to NOLA. The restaurant is located on Louisiana Ave just steps away from Magazine street. From the French Quarter, it requires an Uber or bus ride out (but it’s worth it!) Reservations are recommended along with more casual wear (no t shirts or shorts) as this is more of a white tablecloth type of restaurant. Our family loves the Shrimp and grits here! I ended up ordering the Gumbo to start out with and the Fish curry (featuring red snapper that evening) as the entree. The gumbo I thought was okay but the fish was really great, cooked to perfection, and was the perfect size. The bread pudding was a great dessert to end the night! Overall we have never had a bad meal here at Atchafalaya and for sure will be back during our next NOLA trip! Highly recommend the trip out here but plan ahead and make your reservation

The biscuits were a hit, my breakfast sandwich was not. The bloody mary was cool but not tasty, I'm not a fan of the horseradish blood mary mix. I felt the food was overpriced, as it was mediocre in taste.

Had dinner here with family on a Monday evening in February. The server was very kind and attentive without being obtrusive. We tried the alligator appetizer which was surprisingly good. We had three main dishes: Tuna, Prawns, and half chicken which everyone raved about. Parking is easy on the streets nearby. Highly recommend this place.

Dined recently for the first time here since Covid. It was disappointing. First the good - the staff was excellent. The place was busy, everyone was hustling and pleasant. The bad - the food. The drum was served with a sauce that arrived cold and clotting and much too reminiscent of leftover Thanksgiving gravy. The fish itself was well prepared. The crawfish soup was thin, the pork chop was overcooked. The cornbread, however, was wonderful. We planned for dessert, but dinner left us unwilling to take a risk.

I have eaten at Atchafalaya only twice. Both times for brunch. The building is old and has interesting character. The food was good, but not necessarily memorable (2 of my party of four couldn’t remember what they ordered there three days ago). It is good enough for a trip out of the Quarter or CBD if you’re staying in those areas. Since there was nothing objectionable about the food, I just want to speak to the service choices. The waitstaff was nice but not particularly attentive. In a small venue, I had to wave our server down for refills twice. New Orleans is Southern and ice in beverages would be nice. The Bloody Mary bar was weird. The glasses used were tall, but the garnishes were mostly things that sank to the bottom of the glasses and there were no toothpicks or skewers to use to keep them from sinking. Also, the way they served the bloody marys was to let customers pick their vodka choice, bring it out in a glass without ice, then allow the customer to mix their own drink from the Bloody Mary Bar in the entrance room. That’s fine and fun with a youthful crowd, but without ice it was like drinking room temperature tomato soup. They may want to serve the vodka in a short glass on the side of a tall glass of ice so customers can have a refreshing drink instead of the oddity of soup in a bar glass.

Perfect everything! We had the most fabulous meal in New Orleans. The soft shell crab was to die for. The crab was so meaty and paired with sweet potato mash. What a wonderful creation! The tres laches bread pudding was worth every calorie! Everything else was super delicious! We also had the blue crab ravioli, which reminds us of Paris seafood crepes. Also the crispy oysters were so fresh! We also had the grouper, which had a very tangy and refreshing light flavor. The service was impeccable! We felt so welcome and attended to. This is such a hidden gem. The restaurant is such a beautiful space. We felt surrounded by a sea of flowers outside. What a perfect way to enjoy an easy breezy summer night. Magical.

Four of us ate at Atchafalaya last night and had an awesome experience I don't usually mention service first, but it was so smooth, so welcoming, that the staff needs a shout out. The interior is filled with warm colors. Teh music is a mi of jazz and folk with a bounce but at a volume tht doesn't impede on the conversation. And then there is the excellent food...Around the table we had the gumbo, the blue crab raviolo and and the fried green tomatoes. Yeah, i know, you get gumbo and fried green tomatoes everywhere. But these were expertly done, the gumbo having just a nice finish of white pepper to keep the kick in your mouth. The raviolo was classically sauced and rich and brought home the French origins of creole food. I also had a salad with satsumas and hazelnuts that was light and gently dressed and just a wonderful mouthful of well integrated tastes. An excellent shrimp dn grits followed, the sauce again showing the kitchen's ability to develop full and complex flavors. Another member of the group had the stuffed acorn squash and raved about it. We finished up with desserts including a blue cheese flan and an espresso cheesecake. Both were solid, though I didn't think them quite up to the standards of the rest of the meal. But perhaps it was only because the bar had been set so high. Highly recommended.

We had dinner at the Atchafalaya restaurant on July 13. We stayed in the French Quarter, and the restaurant was an easy short drive (we used Lyft). Chef Chris Lynch happened to be eating with his family that evening and he took time away from his meal to welcome us. The staff were all friendly, professional, and efficient. I had the Chili-rubbed Porkchop and my husband had the night's special of Speckled Trout Amandine. Both were awesome (especially the trout!). The wine list offered many choices and we also enjoyed some port to finish the meal. We truly enjoyed the entire experience and plan to be back next time we are in NOLA! Highly recommend.

I think we just got a dud waitress. But why have a dud waitress on staff? It’s been a while since I’ve felt that weirdly unwelcome in an establishment. We were excited to be in Nola again after 8 years, loved the neighborhood and the sweet little kitchen garden, loved the inside, but did not love the server’s attitude of “I’m going to be professional but still exude a general attitude of disapproval and make you feel like what I do I do begrudgingly and minus any warmth and charm.” Our smiles and kindness and politeness were completely lost on this woman. She should take a page out of water refiller’s playbook; she brought joy and a welcoming vibe. Honestly, I was not impressed by the food. The waffle stood out as fantastic and beautiful. The gumbo, I get that it was a dark roux, but still pretty thin and just okay (very nice presentation though), the biscuit was average to the point where we didn’t finish it, the bywater Bloody Mary was literally all tomatillo, it was so revolting that instead of being able to savor it, I had to down it to avoid having to taste it, and when my husband very politely told our server that the cough-inducingly over-peppered regular Bloody Mary was a a couple levels too spicy and would she mind bringing some more tomato juice, what she should have done was apologize and offer to remake it. He would have declined and accepted the tomato juice. It was not advertised as spicy and wasn’t spicy in a good way ( there wasn’t even horseradish or barely any), just poorly made. Instead she just said sure I can bring you some v8. She didn’t do anything wrong, she just didn’t do anything right. She wasn’t kind. And when you are paying over a hundred dollars for a so called “southern” brunch place that can’t even do a proper biscuit or Bloody Mary and you feel uncomfortable being there, what is the point? Spend your money elsewhere. One of the owners was gracious and stopped by our table before we left but it’s kind of a moot point by then. Keep a tighter grip on your house. Or maybe the young ones just don’t care and will keep coming.
