Start with a drink either at the bar or table side. The bartender knows his stuff. Both food and drinks do successfully innovative things with local ingredients. Tables are well spaced, and the mood is casually elegant. Located at the edge of the Garden District, Atchafalaya is away from tourist New Orleans and a real find.

Food is outstanding. This is a must every time I'm in NOLA. Service can be slow when busy but, I was comped my drinks by wait staff because of it. Very nice

Make a reservation and take trip to the Garden District for this gem of a restaurant. From the eggs on fried green tomatoes, to the strawberry brioche french toast, the food was delicious. The bloody mary bar is a must at brunch, while listening to the jazz trio. Great place.

Ok I went for Valentine's Day with my sweetie, a night you hope for the best, but fear the crowds will bring out the worst, in restaurants. It was perfect in every way! The decor, candlelight, and soft jazz music by a duo in the bar (playing at just the right volume so you could still hold a conversation) were... More

On a recent visit a friend and I went for brunch. It was outstanding! The moment we walked in we were greeted by a friendly host, three musicians that were playing great music and a fantastic Bloody Mary bar featuring house made mixes and pickled vegetables. We were already in heaven and had yet to be seated! We had Eggs... More

We love to eat and have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the US but Atchafalaya was one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Friendly people, easy to get to, and amazing food and cocktails). Creative takes on New Orleans cuisine.

Its a nice looking place from the outside, and the inside is okay, small, but that didnt bother us, we had a large table with 8 girls, I actually had no ideavthat they served brunch with drinks, but my friend made the reservation, the... this is the best restaurant in New Orleans that I've tried so far. it will be really tough to go down in my list. everything we tried was amazingly tasty. the only downside was just naming. we had their risotto but it was just regular rice. very tasty but not risotto. the best part was the desert. we had the... Decided to dine here because of the good reviews. We had to uber as it is situated in the garden district, about 10-15 drive. I ordered the famous Bloody Mary, which you make them yourself at the bar. It's was ok, I prefer a bartender to make for me. The gumbo was delicious, and steaming hot! For main I got... More

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
