I went here with my family and felt like I was part of their family! The food and service are top-notch and authentic. True loss if you can't make it here!

If you are in the mood for North African food, don't miss the exquisite offerings prepared by the darling Jamilla, and served by her hospitable husband Montcef. This charming restaurant is in the University area off Maple, and feels like a giant bear hug of a place...Montcef will have you swearing you are kin in no time! Our party had... More

Authentic ethnic cuisine cooked and served with love by a husband & wife team in an intimate, relaxed dining room. What a treat. The stuffed and fried phyllo appetizer was amazing. My sister thoroughly enjoyed the fish, which had an unusually savory preparation that used cloves. My lamb tajine was heavenly, and my 3 year old daughter lapped everything off... More

Anyone looking for some good Tunisian/Moroccan/Algerian food in NOLA should try this place. The owners are very friendly people and are Tunisians (I believe. Forgive me if this information wrong) you feel very welcome in this place and if it's not the food you're coming back for, it's the North African hospitality. Great place!

This Tunisian restaurant, in the University area uptown, is a wonderful dining experience. We especially love the couscous and the house-made merguez. If you call ahead, you can buy some uncooked merguez to keep in your freezer, as we do. Excellent hospitality and food that everyone will love.

Get away from the French quarter and head over to jamila's cafe. Dinners are incredible! Moncif takes personal care of his customers and you feel more like a guest in his home than a diner in a restaurant. Try the lamb sausage as an appetizer. The entrees are superb. My favorite is the salmon. Make no mistake... One of the... More

My husband, myself and our dog Mickey had a quite wonderful experience at Jamilas. We had a super fantastic crawfish, zucchini and spinach bisque. We also had a great traditional lamb dish, raised to a new level of perfection. The chef made a special bouillabaisse for me. It was quite delicious and so nice of her. I really appreciated it.... Moncef and Jamila make us feel so at home every time we go...we try to go there every time we go to NOLA-- about 2-3 times a year. The space is comfortable, the food is delicious. The Crawfish, Zucchini & Spinach Bisque is TO DIE FOR. The merguez is fabulous. I've eaten there 10 or 12 times and have loved... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
