Don't let the apperance deceive you - this place is amazing. Quite possibly the best raw oysters I've ever had - so fresh and tasty. I also had gumbo, fried oysters and fried shrimp - all delicious. My daughter had soft-shell crab which she loved.

I was born in New Orleans and love the food and atmosphere. I no longer live there so my infrequent trips are very special and filled with high expectations of great food and fun. I had never been to Casamento's, but read lots of glowing reviews. The oysters indeed were terrific. Large, salty and juicy; but, the shucker allowed the... More

On our first attempt to eat at Casamento's, twas closed since they shut down after lunch at 2:00 p.m. On Thursday through Saturday they reopen from 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. for an early evening crowd wanting scrumptious Louisiana seafood and gorgeous oysters. This family run restaurant also is closed down entirely during several of the warmer summer months. They... More

Start with a dozen raw oysters and then keep it going with the fried oyster loaf. Skip the dressed version and go as my born & bred N.O. buddy recommended: toasted with butter. Doesn't get any better. A family run joint that is most definitely worth the trip out to Magazine St. Cash only and somewhat unusual hours

Awesome food. Had the crab claws and oyster stew it was very very good I generally don't like oysters but they were fresh not tough in a good heavy broth. Awesome.

If you love fried soft shell crab, oysters, and other New Orleans food, you must visit Casamento's, a New Orleans institution. During a recent trip, we enjoyed, after visiting a couple of years ago, chargrilled oysters on the half shell and soft shell crab, which is fried in corn flour so it's gluten-free, according to the restaurant. Cash only, and... More

What a fun and casual place (really an institution in this town) to get oysters. We had both raw and char grilled. The guys shucking the oysters were friendly and pleasant.

We've been there many times, but not for a while. Oysters were plump and big. I also had half a shrimp loaf and my friend's catfish loaf was the better of the two. Service was very attentive and pleasant. The wait was only a few minutes. They my have lost a step, but still worth the trip.

It's rare that I get to go to New Orleans outside of summer, when Casamento's is closed. I was excited about the opportunity but was just shrugging my shoulders after the meal. The oyster po-boy was very good...it's not served on the standard bread but on more of a "Texas toast" but it all worked. My disappointment stemmed from the... More

I have celiac disease so I've eaten at Casamento's when visiting New Orleans. The first couple times I was just excited to finally eat fried seafood again since I grew up with it. Now that the novelty has worn off, I realized that the food just really isn't that great and that everything else about the restaurant is less than... More

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
