Had dinner here about 18 months earlier, and loved it. Made a reservation for dinner on this trip, and happened to be staying close by. So on our first night in NO and no plans, we walked by while trying to decide what to do for dinner. As it was early, they had open tables and we had a great,... More

My wife and I are fans of Commanders Palace but were talked into going to August by the hotel concierge and others. I was expecting a dining experience like no other. As others has mentioned in their reviews the wait staff is outstanding. They know the menu well and are eager to assist. The wine steward was very helpful and... More

Good, but sadly, not great. I love the people who work at Restaurant August. Their sommelier is very personable and knowledgable. One of the best I've ever experienced. She really brought the wine to life and explained how she did the pairings with their tasting menu. Food-wise, though, a couple of my entrees were much too salty. I love salt,... More

We just returned from a four night stay in New Orleans and while we enjoyed literally every meal we had there, Restaurant August was far and away the most impressive. In fact, my wife and I could not recall a more enjoyable fine dining experience in recent years. Before taking our seats we had drinks at the bar which were... More

We ate at a lot of nice restaurants on our recent visit to New Orleans, but this was my favorite. We came here for the prix fixe Friday lunch. The cost was $26, which I thought was reasonable for the experience. The setting is lovely and the service was top notch. My husband and I shared our meals, so we... More

During a recent conference, one of the vendors again treated us to a private dinner. As with my experience in 2013, the service was excellent and the food was very good. The stuffed flounder was very good and the beef tenderloin was also good.

The Wait Staff is superb. Unfortunately, the cuisine is not. Pitiful portions. The, "Crispy Flounder", was neither crispy, or flounder. It was more likely a Mrs Paul's fish filet, but not as tasty, or large, as Mrs. Paul's. Note to John. Price does not a delicacy make. The pumpkin seed soup was too salty but if not, it would have... This is an excellent restaurant for fine dining. This restaurant has lovely and friendly service in a very elegant setting. The food was outstanding and the staff were very tolerant of our desire to split/share our meals. We would highly recommend for a great New Orleans experience.

The cuisine at August is contemporary French with a focus on local ingredients, inspired by Chef John Besh's classical training here and in Europe, and by the depth of his own Southern Louisiana roots. August is located in an historic 19th century French-Creole building in New Orleans' Central Business District. August was a semifinalist for the 2012 and 2013 James Beard Awards Outstanding Restaurant, and has been selected by Gayot as a top 40 Restaurant in the United States. The Times Picayune has named it as one of their top 10 Restaurants the last two years in a row.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
