My wife, my sister, and I went here for dinner earlier this month as it was right across the street from our hotel. Excellent! All three ended up ordering the same 'house specialty dish which was a flounder with an amazing sauce. The service was perfect and the staff were more than helpful when it came to explaining some of... More

Went to August with my wife and daughter, who is close to a vegetarian. My wife and daughter both ordered the vegetarian tasting menu. My daughter is gluten intolerant, and several of the items on the tasting menu weren't gluten free. The staff found delicious substitutes with no hassle at all. The regular vegetarian tasting menu was also fabulous. Servers... More

We went for the lunch tasting menu and it was good food at a relatively good price. Pretty crowded for lunch so it was good we made a reservation. The building is beautiful.

I dined here twice during my stay. The first dinner I had here was seafood, which was delicious. However, the portions were too big for me, and I was able to finish only half of the main course. The second time, I tried their vegetarian tasting menu. That was amazing, and the portions were just right. They have a reasonably... More

So I'm a Bostonian and don't get to New Orleans often enough. When I go, like a good foodie-tourist, I look for seasonal French-Creole with a creative twist in a restored funky historic ambience with a lively social scene. I scored with Restaurant August. My companion and I sat at the bar (by choice) and enjoyed every course starting with... More

This restaurant is expensive by our standard but well worth it. Service was excellent, food was small plates but filling and wine was of a great selection. We would visit again when in New Orleans!!!!

I had always wanted to visit Restaurant August, so on our recent trip to New Orleans, my husband and I decided to go. We were not disappointed. Start to finish, our meal and service were impeccable. We each decided to try a tasting menu: I chose the vegetarian Farmer's Market, and my husband the Degustation menu. Both were, in a... More

I was in their ballroom dining room with a large group. I would say the food was excellent and the service was far superior to any large group dinner than I have ever experienced.

Hands down our favorite restaurant in New Orleans! We arrived early for our reservation and they easily accommodated us. This restaurant is upscale with dark wood, white linen and chandeliers. Our waiter was Mark Gruntz and he was superior to any other waiter that I have ever encountered! You could tell that he not only had a passion for his... More

Description
The cuisine at August is contemporary French with a focus on local ingredients, inspired by Chef John Besh's classical training here and in Europe, and by the depth of his own Southern Louisiana roots. August is located in an historic 19th century French-Creole building in New Orleans' Central Business District. August was a semifinalist for the 2012 and 2013 James Beard Awards Outstanding Restaurant, and has been selected by Gayot as a top 40 Restaurant in the United States. The Times Picayune has named it as one of their top 10 Restaurants the last two years in a row.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighborhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
