We've visited New Orleans many times and mostly chosen places in or near the quarter. This time we decided to dine somewhere outside the quarter. Based on all the good reviews we picked Upperline. What an amazing place. We had the three course tasting dinner and loved it! The duckling was perfection. The service was amazing and the ambiance was incredible.... More

Had a 7 person party in for dinner on a Saturday. Some only ordered one course but others (myself included) got the tasting menu. They kitchen kept the courses coming out in good order. Everyone really seemed to enjoy their food, I know I did. My friend loved his bread pudding dessert. Joanne (the owner) came out and talked to... More

Reading reviews about Upperline, I really expected so much more. The food was just off this night. We came to find out they were shutting down for their 3-week vacation. Hospitality and service was heading for an excellent rating but as the evening started off with our fried green tomatoes overly cooked to a tobacco colored hockey puck, we should... More

My wife ordered the taste of New Orleans. It was great. We couldn't decide which of the 3 appetizers it came with were the best. The turtle soup had so much flavor. I had the lamb shank. It fell off the bone, and tasted so good. We both got the creme brulee with the crushed pralines on top of the... More

Owner/hostess JoAnne Clevenger is New Orleans' GRAND DAME! So wonderful and welcomes you into her Creole cottage restaurant as it was her home! Make sure you order the fried green tomatoes with seafood remoulade and any fish dish for me is a winner! It's my GO to place when I'm back home bringing visitors to NOLA for really beautifully prepared... More

Not worth the money.. Many other good restaurants you could go to. Service not good and the good was not any better, wine was ok though.

I have to admit I'm incredibly surprised to read your review. Above all else, we make service a priority, and as you've probably noticed, we receive many reviews praising our hospitality. If we did anything at all to make you feel otherwise, I'm so sorry, and I'd like to get to the bottom of it. Please feel free to give... More

Some friends that lived in New Orleans recommended The Upperline Restaurant. Very interesting menu. I tried the New Orleans sampler which was a sampling of 4 different appetizers and 3 different mains. My wife had the spicey shrimp and loved it. The sampler was great and gave you a little taste of different traditional items. JoAnn met us at the... More

If there were any way for me to love the friend that recommended Upperline more than I already do, I certainly would based on our experience. We loved this fabulous dining experience. We opted for the $40 three course meal. The duck gumbo was delicious and the veal with grits was a stand out. The venue was obviously a labour of love for the owner who was always close by, checking we enjoyed our food and encouraging us to view her lovely art collection. A must... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
