We are hoping that it was just an off day because our memories of this NOLA staple were much fonder then our recent experience. What we expected and what we got this time around just didn't add up. The staff, much like the omelettes we got, seemed deflated! Not their typical lively selves. They were a bit cold and bored... More

Probably the highlight of my trip to NOLA was our breakfast at The Camelia Grill. We took the St. Charles Streetcar through the Garden District and enjoyed the beautiful houses and views of New Orleans along the way. We waited in a short line and were seated at the counter. Yes, all their seats are counter seats so get over... More

Orange Freeze and fried pecan pie with ice cream, yum. A wonderful traditional diner, great staff. It's fun to watch truly skilled cooks at work and the banter between them and the waiters is fun to listen to. Take the Charlie car (St. Charles streetcar) and ask the driver to let you off at River Bend.

We love, loved, loved the Camellia Grill. Take the St. Charles streetcar line out to Carrollton and hop off! This is an old school counter diner with great food and the best show in town. Orders are barked back and forth in shorthand between cooks and waiters and the orchestration of it all is a sight to behold. Our waiter... More

We stopped into this gem for a late night dinner after a day of moving a new student into nearby dorms. It was highly recommended by locals and did not disappoint. The counter staff greeted us immediately upon entering and begin setting our places as we steps up to the counter seating. They provided humor, recommendations and overall great time.... More

My family and I decided to hop the trolley to take in some sights a couple of years ago while we were visiting NOLA. We saw the grill and thought we'd grab a bite. They had the best Red beans and rice we'd tasted! So good in fact, that when we went back in October of 2015 on business, we... More

Just off the St Charles trolley line is this hidden gem. Show up hungry. The burgers and sausage sandwich we had were great and cheap. Indulge in some chili cheese fries while you're at it.

My husband and I wanted a good, inexpensive breakfast where the locals eat. We couldn't have picked a better place! We loved kidding around with the servers and listening to them heckle each other. The omelettes were unbelievably light and fluffy. It's no wonder that this place is a New Orleans favorite!!!

Concierge pointed us here for a quick lunch in the garden district while on the trolley. Old style counter seating, watch your food being prepared. Muffeletta was to die for! Nothing fancy to be sure, but good food and cheap eats.

Got up early, and took the St. Charles Streetcar to Carrollton so I could enjoy one of the best omelette s in New Orleans. I expected to wait but was pleasantly surprised to get a stool with no problem. The Manhattan omelette, with corned beef, potatoes and 2 types of cheese should hold me over until dinner. Hadn't been here... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
