I cannot talk about the New Orleans experience without talking about this restaurant. This is one of my favorite "splurge and treat myself" restaurants that I love to visit. It's as if you're walking into a dining room in someone's house, and that person treats you like royalty and feeds you food so good, you don't want to stop eating.... More

My uncle and I dined at Brigtsen's in Dec, 2016 for their Reveillon promotion. For this traditional Louisiana holiday, a four-course meal was available for an affordable price. The four courses began with the choice of an oyster bisque (which I ordered) and chicken/andouille gumbo (which my uncle ordered). My oyster bisque was delicous and my uncle ( a native... More

My husband and I make sure to go to Brigtsen's every time we're in NOLA, it's my husband's favorite restaurant. They never disappoint... friendly staff, great food and cocktails, what more could you ask for!

You can depend on full satisfaction from this nice, family run place. There are separate small dining rooms and if the room is full, it is kind of noisy so if you need a quiet spot ask for a table in the hallway. There are two tables there that each seat two people. The meals are beautifully presented and if... More

You arrive for dinner at a modest but attractive old house that's been converted into a restaurant. As you enter, you're greeted warmly by a gracious lady. You're then seated in one of several small but pleasant rooms entered from the entry hallway. The service is friendly and competent but not fussy. When the food arrives, you find it is... More

This is a small little family owned place. The staff was very personable with us and services was great. Some of the best food I have had in New Orleans. We enjoyed everything and highly recommend trying this place Appetizers: BBQ Shrimp Seared Scallops Main Course: Stuffed Redfish Lamb Shank

The first time we ate here was in November of 2004 and had a wonderful meal (so we keep going back). For an appetizer, we had the Pan-Fried Des Allemands Catfish with Stone Ground Jalapeno Cheese Grits, Sauce Piquante, Black Bean Salsa, & Avocado Sour Cream - yum!. For an entrée, I had their special Broiled Gulf Fish with Crabmeat... More

From the moment you walk through the door you know you are in for a wonderful evening. The entry hallway opens on to several very cozy rooms with beautifully set tables. The service is prompt, but in a very unobtrusive way reminiscent of the best European restaurants I remember from 40 years ago. The staff simply takes very good care... More

Planning our trip to New Orleans, we ask a person who resided there for quite some time and still visits regularly where to dine, that was not one of the tourist hot spots. The answer Brigtsen's. We were not disappointed, from the cocktails, to the salads and on to the entrees, it was all so good.

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
