Upon recommendation from a friend that frequents New Orleans often, we made reservations and went for a late dinner. The grilled redfish was absolutely one of the best seafood dinners I have EVER had. My only complaint was the noise, very packed rooms for dining and you couldn't help from overhearing conversations from other tables. Everyone was having to talk... More

My wife and I dined again at Brightsen's last night. Mr. Frank is extending Restaurant Week's menu and pricing through the end of September. For $38 each, we had his 3 course dinner. We have eaten there twice and each occasion has been memorable. Two years ago we had the corn and crab bisque which was the best appetizer either... More

These people are real pros who stand out in a food-obsessed city. Others have mentioned the Coolinary menu, now extended through September. Sill, I'm glad I negotiated a swap for a waterman salad with my companion: who would have thought that curry popcorn could add such a fine note? The red fish, a favorite of mine, was a standout, made... More

We ate here for our anniversary. Tiny little New Orleans house, but so cozy and delicious! It was pretty crowded the night we went, but there are not that many tables. Fantastic food, fantastic service. I had duck and it was perfect! The strawberry shortcake is delicious.

I called for a Saturday night reservation for one midday on Saturday and was assigned the only remaining table in the hallway on the side of the main dining rooms. From the tone of the hostess's voice on the phone, it sounded like this might be a bad location. I soon learned otherwise. I arrived a little early for my... More

You must eat at Brigtsen's during the coolinary month of August. Brigtsen's has the best coolinary menu in the city! We had the shrimp salad (but couldn't pass up the fried softshell crab appetizer with pecan sauce). I had the stuffed seafood eggplant with cream sauce and my husband had the grilled redfish. Delicious and plentiful!! For dessert we had... More

Went the other night to try this place and we picked the Coolinary Menu. First, the Gumbo was outstanding, The food was well prepared and all of it was great. A very small place but very nice. The night we went was very busy but quite and enjoyable since many New Orleans eateries are so loud you can't hear yourself... More

We've been to Brigtsen's twice for dinner and enjoyed both times. I recently had a watermelon salad appetizer, which was quirky (included cajun spiced popcorn and cream cheese) but fun, and a delicious grilled redfish with potatoes and (this is something of an obsession of mine) perfectly cooked vegetables. However, I recommend asking the server which dishes are lighter than... More

Brigsten's is a new favorite and as my husband put it, "our most authentic New Orlean's dining experience". Brigsten's restaurant is located inside a shot gun house which gives it an authentic and intimate feeling the moment you lay eyes on it and you instantly feel like family the moment you walk inside. We were seated by Mrs. Brigsten who... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
