Service and food quality are always tops. A favorite for us to take out of town guests, whether for business or pleasure. One of the few "tourist restaurants" we like to frequent. Also, Thanksgicing dinner at Commander's is a treat!

This elegant restaurant is considered an institution in NOLA. Although the food and wine list are certainly very good, the service is not at the level expected at this price range. The main server was friendly but she was stretched thin, which caused the service and overall experience to be uneven. The food was excellent, and the wine selection extensive... More

The atmosphere of this place is absolutely wonderful and the service is amazing, but the food is just average. This is a famous/historic place that I had heard about for years growing up in New Orleans, when I finally went I was quite a bit disappointed in the food and I am not the only native New Orleanian to say... My girlfriends and I lunched at Commander's Palace on the first day of our trip to New Orleans to celebrate all of us turning 50 and it was a fabulous experience! All of the food we had was absolutely delicious and lovely to look at and the 25 cent martinis were to die for! The waitstaff was so prompt and... More

This is one of the prettiest restaurants in New Orleans, great uptown neighborhood, beautiful oak trees everywhere and very pretty interior- the food is good to average- nothing stands out as special or spectacular on the culinary side. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal at Commanders- but I cannot remember a great meal either.

I went to Commander's last weekend for brunch with family and friends. As usual we had a great time. The service is excellent, and the food was fantastic as usual. I especially like going for brunch because of the jazz music, and the more affordable prices when compared to dinner.

I love this restaurant. I've eaten here all five visits to New Orleans. The food is EXCELLENT!!! My only disappointment is that they neglected to place me in the Garden Room.

From the very beginning I felt like royalty! The service was unlike anything I had ever seen. Not sure if the extra treatment was because it was the finale on our tour with Racontours, but we were waited on hand and foot! The food was delicious and beautifully prepared and presented. The bread pudding souffle was one of the best... More

I had heard amazing things about Commanders Palace from multiple people, reviews and blogs before our trip. But none of these amazing reviews could prepare me for how amazing it actually is. Me, my husband, his mother, and our daughter went here for dinner on our last night in New Orleans. The service was impeccable. The absolute best service I... More

Another of the fabulous restaurants from the Brennan family. Chef Tory McPhail manages to assemble the absolute BEST of the BEST ingredients in mouth watering fashion. Garden district beauty, valet parking, short cab drive from downtown - and worth it! Every dish, from the seafood (recommended) to the steaks are without doubt the finest textures and flavors you'll find. Dessert's... More

Commander's Palace welcomes everyone but we do have a dress code. It's a festive atmosphere! Shorts are never allowed. Inventive modern New Orleans cooking coexists with our Haute Creole. Sense the team's professional grace clothed in the warmth of the Brennan Family's brand of hospitality. From your first sip of a Sazerac to your last crumb of bread pudding soufflé, we hope you are pampered and delighted...and go ahead be a little bad...that's what living in New Orleans is all about.

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
