Traveled by the St Charles Streetcar to Oak Street (and back) where we then walked several blocks to Jacques-Imos. It was a hot day, and we got there before 5 PM. The staff let us in and allowed us to sit at the entrance of the restaurant. Quite appreciated. Seated at 5. Place definitely funky, quirky, and eclectic. Staff friendly... More

The restaurant: First we never wait for a table at a restaurant and we waited an hour because the reviews were good. FYI the restaurant doesn't take reservations unless you have more that 5 in your party. Jacques Imo's is a couple of blocks from the St Charles street car route. They call cabs for almost everyone leaving the restaurant.... More

I am a New Yorker so I have food from all over the world available to me daily. Jacques-Imo's hands down is the best food I have ever eaten in my life. We had the fried chicken, jambalaya and shared friend grits w craw fish. The flavor a, quality and preparation of food in this restaurant is perfection. There was... More

...and so should you. I've been to NOLA twice, but it was 10 years between visits. In between, I had countless people tell me how much I had to eat at Jacque-Imo's, so when I went back, I made sure to hit it. It was WELL worth it. It is loud and it gets BUSY, but if you have the... More

Always difficult when the hype of a place make you salivate before you even arrive. Perhaps our expectations were too high. We came as a business group for an early dinner, even before they had opened! Hats off to the team for looking after us and storing our bags whilst we were eating. The service team were really good. However,... More

We made our reservation 3 weeks prior to our trip. This is a very well known restaurant by the locals, not a tourist trap. Nothing fancy about the decor. Most like a home with multiple addition of rooms. The result is fantastic. You feel like to eat in a different place. You walk thru the kitchen to get to your... More

My NOLA-native friend took me here my first night in town. It was fantastic... although a 45 minute wait, it was worth it. We got muffins that tasted a bit garlicy, alligator cheesecake and shrimp creole. Dishes come with choice of 2 sides and leaves you full for days. Next time will try the southern chicken.

We have been coming to New Orleans for over 10 years and quite frankly we have not been able to secure a reservation here every year. This year we did! The fried chicken is to die for...I don't remember having chicken that good since I was a kid. Worth the wait

What a great place this is! Saw the reviews for this on TripAdvisor and had to check it out. Took a cab from the French Quarter. Went with my 9 yrs old son and husband. Outside of the restaurant is looks like a traditional French Quarter home with some fun signs out front. Inside has lots of fun paintings and... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
