We (my work group) visited New Orleans on a bench marking trip to the Nuclear Plant. We asked them where to eat and they recommended Jacques-Imo's. About 7 of us went there and we all had something different and tried each other's dishes. ALL of them were outstanding. The only one I remember, because of its strange name, was an... More

Landed here ahead of a concert at the Maple Leaf, with a strong recommendation from a local resident. This place was well worth the street car trip! The food was delicious, portions were huge, prices were exceptionally reasonable and our server, Phillip was knowledgeable, entertaining and just an overall good guy. The atmosphere here is terrific as well. I don't... More

Upon entering the restaurant, I wasn't sure what we were in for. And I can say that the prices don't match the decor. But the food and amazing service we received were definitely worth the price! I would recommend doing your dinner family style here, as I don't think you would get the full experience if you just ate one... More

Out of the way but well worth the trek from the French Quarter- uber it-- in the Tulane/ garden district. Prob the best food I had in Nola. Very informal , mismatched furniture, oil cloths on tables; leave attitude at door ; great service; the alligator sausage/ shrimp quiche is to die for; even tho an appetizer, it makes a... More

I was really shocked when I pulled up to the place, it looked very small. When you go inside, it is very large. I loved the entire visit. They have these cornbread muffins that are the bomb. Grilled Red Fish was excellent. The sauces are great..

We went here as a "splurge" date night. It is a little pricey but the food and service is high quality and worth it. The atmosphere is eccentric and fun, just a little crowded but we went on a busy night. Highly recommend this place!

After seeing the reviews I was a little afraid that my expectations would not be met when my husband and I took the taxi from the French Quarter to Oak Street. I need not have worried.... It was a great experience. The food was super... Owen had fried tomatoes and I had fried grits as appetisers....both were delicious! Then Jacques... More

The place is crowded, crazy, and unpretentious. The wait staff, many of whom are kin to one another, run the place quickly and efficiently. The food is off-the-charts good - do not miss the fried grits. They pack people in and the tables are a bit too close together for my taste, but it's worth putting up with for the... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
