Very Busy, quick service, large portions. We are out on the street...to avoid the wait for a table inside. GREAT CHOICE! They give you a plate of cornbread muffins to start...oh so tasty!

The most colorful, delicious experience of our trip! Thank you Jacque for creating a beautiful atmosphere that compliments your amazing cuisine! Alligator cheesecake?! So delicious! The absolute best fried chicken on the planet! Friendliest staff! We will be back!

This place is legendary. They don't take reservations and there is always a wait for a table, so plan to grab a drink somewhere on Oak St. while you wait. It's worth it. Both times I've been here I got the Fried Chicken, the waiters have bet I won't finish it, and both times I've proved them wrong. I've tried... More

Real Cajun food. We had alligator cheesecake - not what you think!!! Order it! Cornbread is unique and delicious! Then I had BBQ Shrimp which was very similar to no cream Cajun sauce w a bunch of flavor! Hands down one of best places to get a good southern Cajun meal!!!!

Take a ride on the historic St. Charles Street streetcar and make your way to Jacques-Imo. We don't normally like to wait but this time it was worth it! The restaurant is unique and the food was great. We certainly enjoyed chatting with the people next to us. One recommended the food I ordered and another tasted mine to see... More

Does not accept reservations for parties under 5 so you will probably have to wait awhile to be seated (we waited 1hour 15 minutes for a table for 4 on Saturday night). Definitely worth the wait! Must try the alligator cheesecake which is delicious. Also noteworthy: barbecued shrimp, drum, grilled oysters...everything was exceptional except the fried chicken which was just... More

This location is about a 15 minute car ride from the French Quarter but after hearing the recommendations from others it was worth the trip. This restaurant is a uniquely decorated old house that was converted into a restaurant. The complimentary garlic corn bread is absolutely phenomenal but be careful not to over indulge because it will easily spoil your... More

Tipped the hostess 20 bucks with a promise to receive the next available table. After one hour we would have left but we would have had to find a taxi and it was late. After another hour we were the LAST to be seated. Had a "specialty" of the house--- it was terrible. All of our party was really disappointed... More

First of all, this is a drive from the Quarters. 20-25 minutes, but it is worth it. I have to say the fact that I got to walk through the kitchen to get to my table was awesome. Now to the food. I had a grill grouper with imperial crab and rice beans and my gf has the Fried Chicken.... More

Jacques-Imo's was a wonderful surprise. We were told by friends this restaurant was fun with great food. They were so right! The shrimp gumbo was the best we have ever had! They do not skimp on shrimp! So full of flavor ! Our friends had the fish and they stated it was delicious and cooked perfectly. All the meals came... More

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
