We are a family of four with two teen boys. We headed to Kingfish for dinner after a day of touring the city. We used Open Table to get our reservation, but on a Sunday night is was full but didn't have a line. We started with the Boudin Balls and the Garlic Crab claws. We went on a food tour (by Destination Kitchen) the day prior and they had the Boudin Balls as one of the highlighted food items that we tasted and they ordered more. I preferred the Garlic Crab Claws - dipped in a sauce that was excellent. I had the Blackened "Hook and Line" Louisiana Gulf Fish which was lightly blackened which was perfect for me. Great taste. One of our teens ordered New Orleans BBQ Scallop Fettuccine - which was definitely one of our two favorites (we all tried all of the dishes). The sauce was unique and the scallops (and you can add shrimp) were excellent. The second teen ordered the prime rib served peppered crusted with a side of corn, which was everyone's favorite. My teen said it's the best meal he had all vacation. The other teen loved the corn side. My other half had the fish special which was also excellent. Overall, we had a great experience. Service was very friendly. This was a place that was casual - meaning we wore jeans. The noise level was vibrant, but we were able to hear each other fine to carry on a conversation.

Had lunch here on a very rainy January day. Was a warm cozy place for lunch (though I wish they had the big stone fireplace going that day).
Strangely they had brunch on Friday (as opposed to lunch) from 9-3 most days of the week including Friday. But, it was a good selection. The bottomless mimosas were great and the service very attentive to replenishing it!
Nice bar up front right on the corner with great views of the French Quarter streets.

Late night after a busy Lundi Gras and we were looking for good food, semi-quiet place. Actually a bit tough to find in the Quarter after midnight.
So if you find yourself in a similar situation and the fried chicken and giant pizza slices on Bourbon just don’t do it for you, this is the place.
Drinks were classically made and served in an actual glass! (Bonus points!)
Alligator grillades and cheddar grits were fantastic. Boudin balls and gumbo hit the spot as well.
We were quite happy to find excellent meal selections that late.
Most of the bars were packed with mostly incoherent tourists. The Kingfish was moderately busy and no one was out of hand.

Ckline95,
We are excited that you were able to discover us while on the hunt for something a little different than the offerings on Bourbon. The alligator grillades and grits are one of our favorites and we are very proud of both our gumbo and boudin balls. Thank you so much for the kind review and hopefully you return and tell us hello on your next visit.
Have a great day,

My husband and I decided to try the Kingfish for brunch, and we were so glad we did. We walked in without reservations around 11:30 am greeted by a very friendly staff. We were seated by the window, so we could people watch. The ambiance was warm but a little noisy. I ordered the Kingfish breakfast. Since I do not eat meat, they made a fruit substitue. My husband had the Kingfish burger and an Irish Coffee. My husband said the Irish Coffee was the best! Both of us really enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Kingfish Is A Great Place And Has Potential! Their Food Is VERY Delicious! I Had Crackling Nachos And A a French 75. The View From The Doors Were Amazing, On A Beautiful Breezy Day.. My Server Kayla Served Me And My Friends She Started Off OK. But I Had A Small Issue. I Asked A Simple Question And Asked If I Could Substitute My Sweet Potatoes With A Side Of White Rice, She RUDELY Told me That I Could Not. I Then Asked If I Can Just Change My Entire Meal And Get The Shrimp And Grits Instead. Time Passed, I Got My Food, I Wanted To Get Another French 75 With My Meal. I Waited 20 Mins For The Drink As I Sat And Watched My Drink At The Bar She Walked Passed The Table Several Times Without Even Updating Me on My Drink. I Had To Stop Her To Ask Her For The Drink That Sat At The Bar For 20 mins.. She Rolled Her Eyes As She Told Me That She’s Busy And She Forgot About It!!! At That Point I Didn’t Even Want The Drink Anymore!!!! I Asked If She Can Just Take It Off My Bill And Take It Away From The Table.. AGAIN Rolled Her Eyes At Me And Silently Took The Drink Away She Didn’t Seem Bothered Or Concerned About Me Or My Drink. I Could Have Just Asked For A Manager But At That Point I Was Just Over It!!! Every Other Server Seem To Be Working And Getting Things To Their Tables On Time, The People Next To Me Seemed Very Pleased With Their Server! Kingfish Is Still A Great Place But The Service Was Poor And Attitude Was Very Unpleasant And Nasty ! I Hate To Have Had A Bad Experience For My First Time In New Orleans And My First Time At Kingfish.

After making a reservation and then waiting 10 minutes to sit down we were offered if we would like bread. We accepted and then ordered after we already had time to look at the menu with what we wanted. 45 minutes later we had no bread, and no food. We did though get our starter gumbo which was served cold. It was then re-heated for us. We had to ask 5 times for bread, and all our drinks for the dinner arrived after we got our food when they were placed in the beginning. Having come to New Orleans 7 times we were not impressed by the food and would consider it below average. Our food was not hot but it was also not cold. We also considered the description of some of the food misleading. We did get our bread though once our dinner was ate and found it was microwaved and chewy. In the end we agreed Popeyes was extremely better.

Avery,
Sounds like we didn't quite get it right with your service. This is not what we are known for and certainly not what we want you to remember us as. I will pass your comments along to my team so that we can improve for future guests. We hope that you will come and see us again on your next visit.

Table of 6, only 1 person liked their food. Bloody Mary was too spicy to drink, french toast tasted like grease and grits were weird/bad. There is a reason this place doesn't have a line waiting to get in

We were seated quickly after arriving for our dinner reservation unfortunately that’s kind of where the good news stops. Service was very slow and inattentive. A member of our party was continually dripped on from the air conditioning vent. While our server was very kind, she didn’t pay us much attention and we ending up having to flag her down to request items or order additional drinks, dessert, etc. We ordered a couple entrees and an appetizer, all of which arrived to our table at the same time…ok whatever…we weren’t checked on during our meal. We flagged our server down to order more drinks, dessert, and our bill. We waited over 20 minutes for dessert…that never came. We ended up needing our bill adjusted because after 90 minutes at the restaurant we had another commitment. The food was ok but there are surely better options in NOLA. I wish I had more positive things to say but unfortunately there just wasn’t much to highlight.

mlhank18,
It's disappointing to hear that your service was lacking. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will address this with my team so that the situation does not happen again to other guests. I do hope this does not encourage you to write us off quite yet and I do hope you will give us another chance on your next trip. We are actively trying to come with a solution to those pesky air vents that do sweat when its really humid. Next time we can get you seated at another table right away.

Since we were stuffed from brunch at The Court of Two Sisters, we decided to try and make Happy Hour at Kingfish (337 Chartres Street) suffice for our evening meal on our last day. This turned out to be the least favorite meal of our trip. The drinks ($7 daiquiri and $4 draft beer) were fine but the Louisiana crawfish bread appetizer ($9), which is described as “crawfish tails, cheddar and parmesan cheese, artichoke hearts, roasted garlic, and local seasonings on crusty brioche bread” was a disappointment. I could barely detect crawfish on our serving, let alone “crawfish tails.”

Sounds like we didn't quite get it right this time around. Sorry to hear that the Crawfish Bread was not to your liking. It is one of our most ordered dishes, but can understand why it may not be for everyone. We hope that you will give us another shot in the future and find another dish that you may enjoy. Thank you for dining with us. We look forward to seeing you again.

Staff is very nice and dedicated. Food is fine, not generous but correct size.
The beef was well cooked but with a lot of nerves and ligaments remaining. The coffee is likely the only drinks that do not poor unlimited on the table.
French toasts are good with a zest of bourbon. 3 cocktails are free refills.
Kitchen seems a little slow for a restaurant half empty but maybe it the holiday disruptions.
Experience fine. Count about $30-40 per person for one dish and drink

We enjoyed a great meal that was reasonably priced. We started with the fried green tomato and shrimp remoulade appetizer, ordered a fried chicken entree and finished the meal with a slice of bourbon pecan pie. The appetizer and pie were both exceptional. We would not normally order fried chicken but knew that this was one of the notable dishes on Kingfish's menu so we gave it a try. The breading was not overly thick, the chicken was tender and juicy and the sauces were tasty. Even though we had an early reservation and the restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived, we did feel rushed as the dinner came before we were finished with our appetizer.

We have tried them twice now. One walk-in and one with reservations through Opentable. Each for late night dining. Their hours are listed as open until 10p. Both times we were met at the door by a hostess that looked as if she was asleep and was really rather rude. The night we walked in she reluctantly sat us but told us we could only order drinks as the kitchen was backed up. However, when our waiter came to the table he recommended we order our food with our cocktails. As we only planed on cocktails and appetizers this was fine. The waiter was courteous, knowledgeable and efficient and our order was deliver promptly. Our second attempt Opentable allowed us to make a reservation for 945p. Again, we planned on the cocktails and appetizers. This time we were met at the door by 3 hosts (sleepy lady, a rude male and a confused young woman). When I explained we had a reservation, all 3 seemed confused we were there. We were finally seated at a bar top table. It was another 10mins before an abrupt and unfriendly waitress (who didn’t identify herself) finally came to the table to fill our water glasses. She ran out of water but said she would return with more, took our drink order (2 martinis) with 1 appetizer and left. 20 minutes later, no water refill and no cocktails. The 3 hosts walked past our table multiple times and could see our empty water glasses but didn’t offer to refill them. One hostess (the sleepy one) was more interested in buying candy from a little boy rather than helping the wait staff by refilling water or running drinks from the bar. A patron at another bar top table actually got up with her 2 water glasses and asked the bartender to refill them. I can understand slow service when a restaurant is busy, but they really were not that busy at all. There were 4 couples sitting at the bar, 5 couples at bar top tables with 2 bartenders behind the bar one more interested in putting away glassware than making drinks. The couple sitting behind us indicated they had been waiting for 55mins for their cocktails. After sitting for more than 30 mins with only a half a glass of water, no cocktails, no appetizer and no explanations we left. Suffice it to say we will not be giving them a third opportunity.

Visited Kingfish on Wednesday, 11/01/23. The food was phenomenal. Had the Lt. Governors Breakfast during brunch and every item was extremely flavorful and cooked just right! Biscuits and grits are the best I’ve ever had! Downfall, the lack of service and attentiveness. If it wasn’t for the actual floor manager, we would’ve never received anything we needed as the server was nonexistent. The only time she stopped by was to help deliver food and then to bring the check. She also seemed either hungover or possibly on some drugs. Just not a great service experience. This place has a great atmosphere and the location is desirable. Pricing is reasonable for what you receive. I will visit again but hoping to get a different server next time.

I recently dined at Kingfish, where Andrea served us during brunch. The boudin boulletts and crawfish bread were outstanding! The flavors were a delightful blend of Louisiana cuisine, and Andrea's attentive service made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

I remember when this restaurant opened, and the food was so good, served on tables with white linens. Now, the bare tables could be cleaner, the food was served cold, and the check was delivered not to the person who asked for it. Don't bother.

French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
