My hosts suggested the Irish House as a lovely place to dine but I wasn't sure. Why would I get Irish food in New Orleans I thought. But from the time Aria greeted me at the door, to the time I left, my experience was unforgettable. Inside is a beautiful Irish themed restaurant mixing the feel of an upscale restaurant... More

Visited as we were walking the Avenue. Had a beer after the bar tender offered samples. Had an appetizer. Bar Tender mentioned that on Tuesdays, they offer 2 for 1 fish & chips. Decided we would be back to try. Glad we did, as the meals were simply delicious. Also have trivia on Tuesdays, makes for an enjoyable evening.

The food was great! & a nice open atmosphere. Sat at the bar. The bartender was very cordial & offered beer & wine samples of anything you wanted.

They have a very extensive beer menu that includes at least one gluten-removed beer. Their food menu also indicates gluten free, paleo and vegan meals. In the past I've found their food somewhat average, but my most recent meal (the full Irish breakfast) was excellent. I ordered the eggs over easy, and they were cooked perfectly. Everything on the plate... More

I normally wouldn't think to have Irish food in New Orleans. My husband came across this place while walking our dog from our hotel. He also noted that the Chef was a "Chopped" champion- as our daughter is a big fan of the show, she wanted to go there for dinner. First, as it appears to be a pub, I... More

We were looking for a place near our hotel for lunch. I had an excellent potato leak soup, the shrimp po boy our grandson ordered was so big he could not eat it all. Sticky toffee pudding was also great!

We went for breakfast just the other day. Their breakfasts are on the small side, but reasonably tasty, and with good service. Wife says Hollandaise sauce lacks lemon. Dinner is an entirely different picture. A Thursday. "Live music" consisted of a hapless droner dragging out "favorites" of the 70s. An "Irish Old Fashioned" was an overly sweet mostly tasteless low... More

One recent Sunday, I decided to try The Irish House! A terrific decision this was!!!!I had the Gravy Boat, which is corned beef hash, eggs, biscuits, and, gravy! Delicious!! The service and atmosphere were terrific! This establishment has special whiskies, and, was a real treat! Also, the mimosas were doubles! YES!!!!

We had the happy hour fish and chips...very good. We shared a salad and the large grilled oysters. Salad was good, but I would go to the Blind Pelican for Oysters. Cheaper and better. My wife ordered the chocolate factory cake and she did not like it. Thankfully, they pulled it off our bill. Good service, live music, but only... More

We got stuck at the Irish house when it unexpectedly decided to rain during our NOLA visit. This bar was the closest shelter. I was pleasantly surprised; they have good food at a good value. They also have THE BEST Irish coffee I've ever had.

Staying in Garden District

Neighborhood Profile
Garden District
Head to the Garden District for the full-on New Orleans experience replete with quaintly clanking streetcars, proudly grandiose antebellum mansions, picture perfect avenues lined with live oaks loaded down with Spanish moss, and a wealth of beautiful churches and many more architectural marvels. Even a brief excursion here makes plain why it’s called the Garden District. So, when you visit be sure to give yourself ample time for admiration at a languidly slow pace befitting such gentile strand of riverside living and to allow you to maximize each opportunity to stop and smell the roses – and whichever other blooms you might come across. While taking it all in, you’d do well to dine at one of the city’s most beloved destinations for regional cuisine. Gourmands from far and wide (and right round the corner) swear the age-old Commander’s Palace is the best restaurant in town – and have been doing so since it opened back in 1880.
