Overall, the meal was satisfactory. Nothing great or exceptional. This was my third visit and I don't plan to go back. The sangria was boring with no citrus flavor so. The best thing on my plate was the grits. I think it was chorizo grits. That was tasty. The service was slow and there was not a line outside liketherehasbeen... More

I finally got to try this place on the way to a downtown concert, because my other choice in Lakeview was closed for remodeling. After arriving solo, I wisely asked to be seated in the patio. I was quickly placed at a table next to a wonderful gurgling fountain. The children just loved it too and only added to the... More

Today made the third visit to The Velvet Cactus. If we didn't like it, there wouldn't have been a second. We arrived right in the middle of a lunchtime crowd on a Saturday. The place was packed and we had to wait about 15-20 minutes for a table. We waited in the bar and the drink options seem to be... More

This is a great place for good food, drinks and atmosphere at very reasonable prices. I was introduced to it by a local a couple of years ago, and I stop in for one meal every time I visit New Orleans! If it's cool enough to enjoy the patio I recommend that.

I am fortunate to have a very tight-knit neighborhood and this is our "go-to" restaurant to celebrate birthdays! We are all part of the rewards club and get a free dessert or margarita on our birthday and/or anniversary. They also have a great happy hour and drink specials! I've never had a bad meal here and am impressed with the... More

The margaritas are very good and high quality. We went on a Friday evening and it was very busy. Food was good and fresh.

Sorry, but this food was not good. It tasted straight out of a can. I was hoping it had great mexican food but everything we ordered was not good.

My friends, my husband and I decided to try this restaurant, on Sunday. The atmosphere is fun, the decor is really neat. We all had different types of margaritas, none of us really enjoyed the drinks they were either too sweet or just too many flavors going on. My friend order the chicken tacos with grits and loved it, her... More

Visited on Saturday night, the wait was about 30 minutes. The server was friendly, she was quite with refill chips and beverages. The kitchen was a little long getting the appetizer to the table. The shrimp and chorizo cheesecake was delicious presentation was a little sloppy. The entrees were great everything was hot and delicious. The restaurant is very busy... More

Staying in Lakeview

Neighborhood Profile
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
