Great food, excellent staff, great atmosphere.... The oaxacan cheese ap was good but small pieces of cheese. The enchiladas & taco plates- great. Nachos with chicken... bring a big appetite. The chilies relleno.... my favorite. Chipolte cheese grits....OMG! You have got to get them.

We try and get together for lunch or dinner. We visited the Velvet Cactus for lunch Saturday. It was wonderful. I had the house margarita and my friend had the strawberry. Complementary chips and salsa...very good. I ordered the steak fajita and she ordered the enchilada. Both were very good.

I love the Velvet Cactus! How could you not like a place with such a cool name and great funky decor. Lots of local art on the walls that can be purchased. The drinks are great and the food is good. I never turn down an invite to go here!

We went around 7pm on a weeknight & had a short wait for "first available" which was inside but I would recommend the patio area for the ambiance and there were lots of fans to keep the heat at bay. Tons of choices & a nightly special is sure to satisfy every palate. I had the brisket taco plate with... More

Well they have outdoor seating and they only serve appetizers and drinks in the first section and there were 15 tables that were empty. I really feel this is bad by design and honestly i have eaten here before and the food doesn't warrant a 20 minute wait. There are better options in Lakeview. If you are trying to get... More

This is a really neat restaurant with eclectic decor and artwork. I got the quesadillas and they were good, simple and fresh. The salsa is also great, it has a very unique flavor. But the margaritas stole the show--delicious and strong, I recommend the cactus margarita!

Always crowded and the wait was minimal. My wife got the enchiladas and was very disappointed in the taste and appearance. The we're watery. I got the mixed grill while satisfying they did not have that distinctive jerry taste. Might have just been a bad night, will return.

I've been about 10 times. In the beginning I was a big fan. But as time has gone by I have become less and less impressed. On this particular visit my food was cold, I told the sever, she brought back the same food- just microwaved. Not cool.

The quality of food is always, always top notch! When you put you name on the wait list, they always tell you longer than what it really is. The wait is never that bad b/c we get a drink at the bar and if flys! We love to take the boys there with us b/c they can play the cornhole... More

Everything was very good except for one thing. Had the Rib Platter. Sides were execellent, however the ribs were ok. They were not "fall off the bone," as some other places are. They could have been a little hotter also. Other than that everyone else's food at my table, was execllent. The cheese grits are the best I've tasted. Cocktails... More

Staying in Lakeview

Neighborhood Profile
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
