Don't get me wrong, NOLA is amazing and so are the local restaurant's ambiances, but food wise, everywhere my wife and I went was or fried or greasy or way too rich. Especially for such a hot weather. But at Sylvain, we both felt like walking in the only restaurant that wasn't left in a cheesy 1960's decorum. Staff was... More

I have been to Sylvain awhile back for drinks (which were very good) but this was the first time I came in (with a friend) to eat. We both ordered off the brunch menu. The Shaved Brussels Sprouts was pretty good, I prefer mine a little more cooked but I liked the dish overall. The Seared Hanger Steak was cooked... More

I would highly recommend Sylvain if you're looking for a great meal and top notch service. I had dinner with three others and each meal was wonderful including the beet salad and coconut milk soup. It was only loud while we were eating due to a large dinner party that sat right next to us, otherwise for a small place,... More

Rarely one can feel more dismissed than what we experienced in this restaurant. The waitress decided that her drink was more important than us and sat on the bar to talk to the barman. The food was terrible. No flavor, no presentation no taste. Avoid this place for sure

We had been recommended to this restaurant by work colleagues. We were a little confused initially as how to enter but worked out that you went along a corridor to the door at the rear of the indoor restaurant. We decided to eat indoors and cannot comment on the outdoor dining experience. The staff were very helpful and friendly, although... More

We went here on a recommendation and other good things we had heard about Sylvain. Very disappointing. I should have known something was up when walking by the previous night it looked awfully dark. We went and indeed it is a dark restaurant. The really troubling part is the noise. People were screaming to be heard over the music and... More

I took my fiance for his birthday and we both loved it! The atmosphere is really cool and although we didn't sit outside, it looked like it had great outdoor space. The food was fantastic for a reasonable price. The chilled shrimp is AMAZING and we both really enjoyed our entrees. I got the papparedelle bolognese and my fiance got... More

We visited here to celebrate a birthday and prior to booking the reservation I had not even heard of this restaurant. The location was charming - so typical of antebellum New Orleans architecture. You enter the courtyard via an alleyway and then to the main salon via old glass pained double doors. The service was unhurried and the prices were... More

We were looking for something good for our final night in NoLa and had settled on somewhere else when a local stopped to point out Sylvain to us. This is really good if you can get in. If. We were told we could eat at the bar and since it was air conditioned (be warned the tables outside are not)... More

Let me say We love this place. It is an eclectic place but great. Some Quick comments below: 1. Relatively small dinning room with some courtyard area 2. Simple but eclectic menu. My favorite is the Brussels sprout salad and their buget is simple but excellent 3. Great bar and bartenders. Have very creative drink menu. Mixologist style. We love... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighborhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
