This place is not much to look at but the shaved ice is delicious!! We are familiar with shaved ice and this ranks right up there with the best we have ever had. They have tons of flavor combinations and toppings. The only thing that keeps me from rating this excellent is that it is hard to know what to... More

I never knew that snow cones were not created equally until I visited this little shop that has been in business for over 70 years. We parked on the street and just as I had read, the line was out the door and down the side walk. It moved fairly quickly. You have a lot of flavors, sizes, and options... More

I had heard about the legacy of this establishment for some time now. Even my old friend/my children's orthodontist raved about these sno-balls from way back when he attended LSU School of Dentistry! It was worth waiting in line for! I absolutely loved the cream of nectar and could not believe the variety! Can't wait to go again!

This place is amazing! The define the true meaning of a snoball. The ice is so soft it melts as soon as you put it in your mouth. I'm originally from New Iberia, Louisiana and now live in Houston. I've tried explaining to people multiple times what a snoball is and they don't understand. Everytime someone I know is visiting... More

Whenever I find myself in NOLA during the spring/summer my first stop has to be Hansen's - not fancy at all but the "shaved ice" with the multitude of flavors is outstanding. Good for an afternoon snack and to help you "cool off" during the warm muggy season

I had half Cream of Nectar/ half Satsuma. If I went again I'd go full Satsuma as it was tart and citrus-y. My wife had lavender honey was was pretty good, too. We waited maybe 10-ish minutes around 2pm so not that bad (the line moves pretty fast)

We took our granddaughter to New Orleans for a week after school was out. One morning we did a self guided tour in the garden district. I hobbled for hours with a broken toe in hot weather. She had volunteered in New Orleans with her church after the hurricane and had heard about this place so we headed there. Ahhh,... More

So, I have to say I was skeptical about the whole-"way better than snocones" bit but this place proved me wrong. The homemade syrups are more creamy and less sugary than the snocone cousins. This place is walk up service-no place to sit and enjoy but it's a yummy visit to make.

After walking around the Garden District in the early afternoon sun, Hansen's was a welcome treat. My husband is the big snow cone fan and he really liked his plain blueberry sno-bliz. Snow cones, bliz's are not my thing but I tried the satsuma (tart citrus) with condensed milk and enjoyed it. Locally owned, non-chain restaurants are our favorite ones... More

This place had a line out the door of locals. At first I didn't understand how everyone was waiting 20 minutes for a snow cone. However, once I tasted one it all made sense. The closest comparison I could come up with was freshly fallen snow and maple syrup. Truly a must do!

Staying in Uptown / Carrollton

Neighborhood Profile
Uptown / Carrollton
Very much their own self sufficient unit within the greater metro area, Uptown and Carrollton tone down the urban edge with a friendly attitude and collegiate feel. Home to Tulane and Loyola Universities, all the students living in the area ensure that Uptown and Carrollton stay youthful, cosmopolitan and vibrantly fun. Two of the liveliest thoroughfares for nightlife and socializing (and yes of course more of the city’s outstandingly good food and live music) are Oak Street and Maple Street. For a truly wild time, the expansive acreage of Audubon Park, with its zoo, golf course, and actual patches of swampy wetlands, means peace and quiet are never too far away.
