Fast and friendly service. Very limited menu, but great taste. I hadn't eaten pel'meni before, so it was a fun experience.

I go to Paul's at least once a week. It's such a unique restaurant and the pel'meni are uniquely delicious. A full order of potato with the works is absolutely the way to go; flavorful, comforting, and filling for a very good price.
Average hearty pelmeni for a good price. A half order is more than enough for one person. For topping, I recommend the cilantro and chili sauce and would opt for the extra sour cream/ smetana. (I prefer Trader Joe’s chicken and mushroom Pelmeni.) I think...this restaurant should consider adding an egg cream to the limited beverage choices.More
Second time eating Paul's, first time dining in. The works may require some extra sour cream, beautifully spicy. Milder options are available and just as satisfying. Plan on a walk through the neighborhood or go into a carb coma. Limited but quite acceptable beer selection.
I love this place! My boyfriend found it while in town and we go every time he is here...and I go in between visits...;) The pel’meni is great and the beef is sourced locally. They also have great a drink selection and amazing prices. I...get the full order, mixed with an extra side of sour cream.More
The first time I visited Madison, I happened upon this place as it was along the walk from by hotel to my business destination. I've made sure to return every time I'm anywhere near downtown Madison - a great deal and a delicious quick bite...are what you get. On the menu: dumplings. That's it. Wonderful flavor combinations (I get mine without sriracha - the butter, sour cream, and curry flavors are GREAT paired with the dumplings) are sure to hit the spot!More
I got a half order of the meat pel'meni since that's all they had available at opening, with it "loaded". Perfect size for a light lunch, so if you are really hungry, better to get the full size. Ready in 10 minutes from time of...order. Definitely a must eat at while in Madison, SO GOOD!More
Summer afternoon, my wife and I wanted something quick, inexpensive, and tasty. This hit on every count. An eclectic, small place in downtown Madison. Friendly service, great food. I've never had pel'meni before, so took the cook's recommendation of half potato and half beef, loaded...with everything ... shared the plate with my wife and we were both stuffed! Good food, good price. Highly recommend!More
For around $8, this is a great meal. I don't really know what kind of sauces they have, but they really make the experience. If you don't overuse the sauces, it's just okay.
I get that if you're a drunk college kid with $6 in your pocket you might think this place is rad. However, it's not for me. They literally boil frozen dumplings and serve in a basket. Oh yeah , you can get 'the works' on...your dumpling which means butter and cilantro. Also the place is super grungy. Have they washed anything in there in the last decade? There's really nothing more to say because i just described everything you need to know. It just falls short on so many levels. Truly uninspired.More
The most common praise I hear regarding Paul's Pel'meni is that it's a "cheap fill up." Of course, by that logic you're further ahead buying a five pound bag of potatoes, wrapping them in foil and baking them to have a plate of about fifteen...baked potatoes. "It's a cheap fill up!" Or if you would like to eat globs of dough, why not get some bisquick, add some water and microwave the thing. Ever since my visit I have never really understood the hype for this place among the student body. I'll give it a point for being a step up from the baked potato in terms of flavor (ableit the flavor profile can be matched by using a store bought Sriracha and some chopped onions) and for the staff being really quite friendly. This place will be your favorite if "fulls per dollar" is the be all end all. But you should treat yourself. Or just make a frozen Jack's pizza instead. It's also a cheap fill up.More
These little dumplings are cool. Definitely get the mix of potato and beef dumplings. They are a little spicy for some people but definitely delicious.
I had never heard of Pel'meni before trying these and they are fantastic comfort food for a cold day in Madison. Get the combo of meat and cheese, with the unique sour cream and sriracha sauce. Sounds weird but it's delicious.
I came here with friends on a recent trip. I had only been to one other Russian dumpling place. We split two orders of been & potato and potato dumplings. One thing I appreciated was that it was quiet enough for us to hold a...conversation without raising our voices. If you haven't had Russian dumplings, give this place a try.More
If anyone would have told me I would love pelmeni, I wouldn't have believed them! My daughter brought me here six years ago, and we still make it a destination.
