We had reservations for 5pm on Tuesday night. We were surprised at number of cars in parking lot when we arrived. The bar was completely circled by guests. We checked in with the bartender, got menus, and were directed to a table marked reserved. Promptly...at 5pm the wait staff started attending to the seated tables. Service was good and food courses arrived promptly. Seating was nearly filled up midway through our meal. They had a large group in one section, which contributed to an above average noise level. Steaks, Fish and Chicken were all excellent. The remaining cinnamon dinners made a yummy take home midnight treat. Prices are very reasonable.
Definitely a more local crowd, location down an access road does not lend it self to drive by drop ins. We would eat there again.More
First off, a previous reviewer said anyone who gives this place a good review is being paid to do so. I want to preface this by saying no one is paying me to write this, nor do I know anyone affiliated with this restaurant. And,...yes, sometimes there is a very long wait to eat here, but it's YOUR choice as to whether or not you wait!! No one makes you do so!! I am NOT a person who likes to wait in restaurants, but I am willing to wait a half hour here. If they tell us it's much longer than that, we don't bother unless we have time to kill, but the food IS worth the wait as far as I'm concerned . . . especially the fish fry. This place is dark, and there is not much seating for waiting around and having a drink. You need to know that going in. This is NOT a fancy, high-end restaurant, but you get lots of quality food at a very reasonable price, and great servers to boot. I love their fried cod, and my husband loves the steaks here. We almost always leave with a doggy bag as the portions are very large. Lots of things to choose from on the menu, and every meal starts with the relish tray and delicious cinnamon buns and bread. Wines are super reasonably priced, and they have a nice variety. Beer and alcohol served as well. There are week nights when we've walked in, and there have been plenty of open tables, but most nights there is a wait of some kind. It's a different method of handling people waiting, but I don't mind the system at all as when you are seated, your food is ready! We like this better than most of the other supper clubs in the Madison area so are willing to put up with the inconvenience of waiting and hanging around the bar area. Your choice . . .More
Toby's is busy every night and there is a reason for that - the service, atmosphere and food are worth the trip! A fun place to go for a great meal. Don't let the full parking lot throw you off - they have room and...service will be great.More
My famiand I have dined several times at your restaurant. We dined with you on Saturday evening, we waited for over two hours to be seated, several tables we not bused in a timely manner, in fact at one time there were four that sat...with dirty dishes on them for a long time before they cleaned. When our table was set up it sat for at least 10 minutes before we were seated, our soup was on the table for that length of time as well, our waitress said to let her know if the soup was cold she would warm it up, none of us said anything as we already waited so long, dinner was good but the wait was way to long, I feel the restaurant was very disorganized Saturday evening..More
This is an old fashioned Wisconsin Supper Club we love going here for a couple of drinks (the bartenders are the best) and some great food. The best shrimp we have ever had Everyone is friendly my best advice is get there early especially on...Friday and Saturday.More
If you go for a friday fish fry during peak times, expect to wait.
If you go in expecting to be seated right away and be pampered from the moment you walk in the door this is not the Friday fish fry for you.
go...in early expecting to make an event of it. order an old fashioned and ask a server or bartender if you have questions about the process.
Strike a conversation with the locals.
order another drink once the first is gone and enjoy yourself.
Once your order is ready you are seated to a garnish tray reminiscent of dinner at Grandma's house.
The fried cod is the best ive ever had. EVER.More
Staying at the Sleep Inn for the Michigan State - Wisconsin football weekend. Drove by this restaurant frequently going to/from hotel and it was always packed, so we decided to try it Saturday after the football game. Pretty bizarre wait list method. You have to...order your food and then they put you on the list for a table. There were six of us, so we ordered and the purchased drinks at the bar, which was packed with no seating. Got lucky and after about 20 minutes we got a table in the bar to sit at. Had about an hour wait all together which wasn’t bad. Service was good both at the bar and at our table. Food was very good, and prices were very reasonable. Would recommend, but be prepared it’s an unusual way to be on a wait list - all parties have to be there to order before you get on the list. All the Wisconsin fans were very nice to those of us from MSU which suffered a humiliating loss.More
