We had starters, Lampia and Keju. Both were worth asking for. The "small plate" of Daging Rendang was the tenderest beef, and delicious, flavored with mild Indonesian spices. I ordered the Mango Curry with Tempeh and with the least amount of sugar that it could have. It was perfect! Excellent service from our server PJ. Easy parking and no wait. This is quiet and romantic spot.

We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant still open - we had enjoyed it several times when visiting Madison years ago, but hadn't been back to the area for more than 10 years. They've remodeled the place, and have changed over to an online menu system where you pretty much need to order your food online even if you're sitting right there in the restaurant. No matter - the waitress helped us through the process :) She explained that the online ordering system was the way they were able to make it through the pandemic.
Years ago, we had totally enjoyed the Rijstaffel: a huge meal with many courses. They still have that available, though in a smaller form: we got the "Mini Rijstaffel for 2." With that, we got to select three dishes from a list of choices - we went with Gado Gado, Sambal Papaya, and Ayam Kunyit. We added an appetizer as well: Martabak Telor. All were excellent and much enjoyed. Can't get that at home!
The restaurant is small - we were glad that we hadn't brought a large group.
Parking can be tight - the restaurant is in a strip mall with a small parking lot, and the adjacent area is busy. Be prepared to hunt for a space if necessary.

It was a Thursday evening when I made my first visit to Bandung Indonesian Restaurant. I was in need of something new and a friend had raved about the house-made tempeh, something I was unfamiliar with, so I drove to Williamson. The ambience was inviting with soft lights and walls decorated with framed images and masks from Indonesia. I was eating alone and ordered the small eggplant curry with tempeh, and the pad Thai noodles with tempeh. The curry came with a scoop of white rice and was outrageously good! It was smooth, flavorful with a hint of peanuts in the coconut milk, and a kick of heat. Unlike other Asian restaurants, the waitress did not ask how spicy I wanted my food and I welcomed that. Food is served spicy the way, I imagine, it's eaten in Indonesia. The menu claims that the pad Thai noodles are the best in town and the claim was true. It really was excellent. After eating every drop of the curry, I tasted the noodles then packed it in a to-go box for my Friday lunch. The tempeh was healthy-tasting, but next time I'll try the curry with shrimp or chicken. To end my meal I had Indonesian ginger tea which came in powdered form. The hot water could've been hotter, but it was still a nice ending to a satisfying meal. I will return with friends.

Bandung has the best Indonesian meals in Madison, WI. There are great food choices, comfortable accommodations and even live music at times.

Tired of the same old thing? I know I was, that's why I tried Bandung. Amazing food. Our service was good. Every dish we tried (and shared) was excellent. Different to be sure. I'm glad we stepped out of our box and tried something new. Be aware: the Pad Thai was HOT! Which they tell me is authentic. Yikkes! Had to get extra rice to tone it down--but it was excellent. Still, I'd order it again because every bite was wonderful.

The food is excellent & provides a wide variety of taste treats. Our group of 4, 2 of us being from Java, enjoyed the array of choices that deftly display the cuisine of Indonesia. The service was only OK; the hostess was hardly welcoming or friendly - never cracked a smile. Our waitress was knowledgeable but didn't come back to check on us & we had to finally ask for our check. Considering the friendliness of the Javanese, we were surprised by the lack of warmth in atmosphere. On the plus side, parking is right on the premises - a plus in the Willy St. area where one often has to search for street parking.

We were a part of 7 and were seated on the table near the window. It was cold plus the draft from the door.
We also did not get any Tempeh chips :-(.

This is just a block or so from my wife's job and actually has a parking lot so folks can avoid cruising around looking for a place to stash the car. Nice friendly staff, and the menu is a delight of various types of Asian food. We try different tasty things at lunch and there are always specials which also come with an appetizer. We usually have lumpia for a starter, which is a Philippine egg roll. Portion sizes can be adjusted to suit one's appetite. Service is quick and efficient which is good for the working types who only have a short time for lunch. One nice nod to the neighborhood is a short menu of gluten free, fat free, and vegetarian choices.

This place is wonderful! The atmosphere is nice, the wait staff are very knowledgable, and the food is impeccable! My family is Indonesian and they are willing to drive from Chicago all the way to Madison just for this food. It’s absolutely delicious!!

We were disappointed. We had been to Bandung several times but not for a year or more. Everything was too sweet...not the desserts (didn't have those) but the main courses. It was as if they had extra sugar they were trying to use up. I don't understand why the change. We had had a very good Oseng Oseng Tempeh there in the past...even have the recipe that was published in a local magazine which we have made at home. The dish served at this visit was not good...as with the other dishes, very sweet...plus no coconut milk as is in the published recipe. Not likely to go back any time soon. I dislike writing a review like this as I would like this restaurant to be successful but the food really was not up to past quality.

It caters to the local taste, and sells good Tempeh which is made in their kitchen. It was busy during dinner hours. They have various portion size options which may let you try different things.

Ate here with people from work who ranged from meat eaters to vegetarians. We stuck mainly to vegetarian options and had a nice shared meal. Apparently they make their own tempeh which was good. Dishes had range from mild to spicy. Good selection of local beer too. I can't vouch for the authenticity of the food but I am guessing this was a "hybrid" Southeast Asian type of place. There were dishes that sounded Thai and the server admitted as much. However, the Pad Thai was one of the best dishes on the menu---go figure!

I've been coming to this restaurant once a summer on my way up to Oshkosh for the last few years. The food is excellent, as is the service. I love the sizzling shrimp and the mango curry. My parents absolutely love the beef and chicken satay. My mouth is already watering as I anticipate next year's visit to this wonderful establishment.

I've been to Indonesia several times before so I had high expectation for this place and quite excited to try. Ordered few appetizers, some of them are food that I'm familiar with when i was in Indonesia. I was very disappointed the flavor just totally bland. The main entree also the same, in fact they didn't taste like Indonesian food at all. Mostly just sweet and salty, kinda taste like regular chinese food. Not to mention the overpriced menu. At least the service was good and fast. Definitely not going back.
