Went with a group of ten to Essen Haus on Saturday night. What a treat! A great selection of food, including American favorites for those who don't want German cuisine. It all tasted great and the prices were pretty reasonable for a solid meal. The live band was also a treat. The place was packed and having a great time.... More

The Essen Haus specializes in German fare in the $17-20 range for a full meal. Quality of the food is good -- the portions are hearty and meant for everyday kinds of diners. The place is large and can be noisy -- it has the atmosphere of a beer hall more than a quiet restaurant. Bands play, beer flows --... More

Arrived at 4:30pm on a Saturday. Seated immediately and served pretzels with cream cheese, kraut dip - Very tasty. Nice selection of German beers too. By 5pm the restaurant was very busy. My wife and I both had types of schnitzel which were very good with spaetzele and red cabbage. My only issue was the dish was served Luke warm.... More

Always a great stop to enjoy a German beer. If we have a group of four or so we will get a boot or two and pass it around. We always follow the Das Boot Contest Rules. The warm pretzels with mustard and horseradish are a must with your beer. The restaurant offers good German fare. Essen Haus is a... More

Great evening. Had a blast. Enjoyed the band and bartender and fellow guests were so welcoming. Beware of the boot. Loads of fun though.

Ate here twice on my last visit to Madison. Both time the meal was a great German dish. The many beers they have are all very good if you are a fan of German beer. Live music one night made for a memorable night with friends! The location isn't all the great, but it is worth the trouble!

When you walk into Essen Haus it's like stepping into a hofbrauhaus in Germany, from the steins on the walls & ceiling to the German bands that play here. The food was real German cuisine from the sauerbraten & schnitzels to the spatzle. They also have a large selection of German beers. The kids will love it since all the... More

Good authentic German food, good service , interesting decor. The only downside was the noisy atmosphere. It is after all a college town and it was Saturday night.

We have been coming here annually with 12-15 of us. They always take excellent care of our group and the service is superb. Typical OmPa place with a polka band and lots of beer. And more beer. Food is authentic and delicious. Friday is Fish Fry in Wisconsin and this is an excellent one. We have fun, have a few... More
