With so many Chinese and Asian options in downtown, we decided on Taste of Sichuan. It looked crowded and we liked this option of make your own hot pot stew. You can select your spices, veggies, meats, etc and it comes out in a stew pot. It was very good.

Ordered 2x Shrimp Fried Rice to go. Took 38 or 39 minutes, not the 15 minute expectation communicated by the lady behind the counter. Order was placed a tad before 6pm Saturday night, so they were definitely quite busy! Taste was good, but not Excellent or Mediocre/Poor. Waiting an extra 23 minutes (especially when in a situation of keeping an eye on our watches) is the reason for 2 stars instead of high 3 or 4.

All of their food tastes like it is made with high quality meat and has great flavor. I think their meat dishes are much better than their vegetarian dishes, noodles are just okay (although the seafood in the seafood fried noodles is great), and the more authentic dishes are better than their more Americanized dishes, although nothing is bad. I recommend the braised bullfrog or the pig intestine with pickled cabbage; I know it sounds like I'm being performatively adventurous, but they are really good. This place also has better rice than anywhere else I've been in Madison.

We ordered a variety of items which all tasted the same. Cups of dried chili’s poured on over salted meat. We asked for recommendations and guidance from the waitstaff but got nothing. Worst food I’ve had in Madison in a long time. With a party of 6 we dropped a lot of money here on inedible food. We will never be back.

You know it is a good sign when the category "American Chinese Cuisine", containing the expected items (sweet and sour chicken, Kung Pao, beef broccoli...) is deep in the menu after the authentic stuff. The menu is extensive. We tried three dishes including beef, chicken and pork and all were excellent, especially the chicken with Chongqing chili. Portions were very generous. Included with the meal is a small self-serve buffet with fruit and a few desserts. Fast, friendly service. I'd go back a dozen times just to get a decent sampling of it all!
