I've eaten authentic German food and this isn't it. I've certainly had worse food but this isn't German, but what can you expect when an Irishman or perhaps Scots is doing the cooking. I had the Frikadellan bites, one of my past favorites under previous owners and was quite disappointed. I was also disappointed by the hostess, I came in alone and obviously disabled, walking with a cane, she told me to pick a seat where I was comfortable and the waiter would be with me soon. She made no offer of assistance, should I need it, in making it to my table, there was a step to navigate. The waiter himself was quite attentive. I've had worse food but if you're expecting authentic German food, you'll be disappointed.

This place has some of the best sauerkraut I've had at a restaurant. Most of us ordered the Sausage Sampler Plate and were stuffed when we were done. The service was good. The atmosphere was good. The wait was less than expected as we were seated almost immediately. But most importantly, the food was great.
Some may consider its $20/plate price tag a bit pricey, which compared to other similar German eateries it is, but the food was good enough that I didn't mind it. Their drink prices are hefty though. My wife ordered a mixed drink that came with a price tag equal to my entree which was most unexpected.
All in all, one of the better places we ate while in the area in terms of quality and service and a place that we'd likely visit again if in the area.

The Bavarian pretzels are almost as good as in Germany! The menu held many favorites like schnitzels but had different toppings than you would expect. I had a special for February which was a filet divided in two covered in a red wine and bitter chocolate reduction served with grilled asparagus mushroom risotto. Meals are not cheap but the food is well worth it and you won’t leave hungry.

We waited over an hour and a half for our food. There were jellied candies on the center of the table of which we ate some and asked the waiter about them because they were good. The waiter informed us they were very expensive candies and we weren’t supposed to eat them. We got our food finally and one of the meals was supposed to be a filet with crab and it cost $40! The filet was actually bacon wrapped and cold and there was no crab. We were specific on the sides to not have Brussel sprouts and was brought Brussel sprouts. The waiter took it away and said he would bring a piece of German chocolate cake for the long wait, cold meal which ruined the evening as we waited so long already for it, and we were under the impression that was to make up for the absence of a meal but apparently it was not. We received the check and there was an 18% surcharge on the bill, they did remove the charge for the filet, but also charged for the cake! When asked what the 18% surcharge was we were told it was to pay for abusing the staff because a curse word was used and for the candy on the table! The owner of the restaurant was very unprofessional, non-apologetic, blatantly lied, and acted like a complete child! She is an embarrassment for a business owner. When the receipt was signed she ripped it away and said, “That’s enough, get out.” I would NEVER recommend eating at such an establishment run by an incompetent rude person. She accused one of our party members of being drunk when he was in fact not...we had a HORRIBLE experience! If it’s that late at night and you’ve been there that long with such disappointment, wouldn’t you be upset as well? Poorly handled situation for a business owner. I will make sure I tell everyone to never eat here...read the other bad reviews that are similar! Upon leaving, the staff was sitting outside the back door in their aprons, smoking! I’m pretty sure that’s not very sanitary when handling everyone’s food either!

Waited 11/2 hours for filet with crab and fried potatoes. Received a cold filet with no crab and Brussel sprouts. Asked for German chocolate cake. It was frozen. Complained to manager owner. She offered to comp my portion after I stated I didn’t wish to wait that long for another steak. When we paid I noticed a charge of $29 for a $200 tab. She stated it was for being rude to the staff then said I abused the staff and for eating the jelly beans out of the centerpiece! I told the waiter thanks for tuning my fn evening. That was it. She then grabbed the receipt out of my hand after I signed it ripping it from me. I was like I need my copy! She screamed get out of here! No problem. Btw might wish to tell your cooking staff to not sit in the alley with their aprons on. Totally unsanitary!!!

We picked this restaurant based on the reviews here and I have to say I’m extremely disappointed!!!
The good-
1. The pretzel was tasty and HUGE!!
2. The potato pancake was awesome
The bad- ordered online ($6.95 “package fee”) with pickup schedule at 6:04. Called when we arrived at 6:00 and were told it would be a few min and to wait in the loading zone. The loading zone is in the back and faces the grease trap for the restaurant (not the most appealing view). We waited until 6:15 before calling again. Put on hold and then told our food was being “bagged as we speak”. Drove back to the rental (16 min) and prepared to dive in.
1. There was a hair in one of the cartons
2. The food was COLD
3. The schnitzel was edible but barely
4. The chicken cordon bleu was dry and tough
5. The rest of the meals were just ok
Total waste of nearly $100!!!

Reviewer,
I'm sorry to read that you had a bad experience with our take-out. We take pride in our food and the packaging, and it sounds like it was not to our standard at all. Even though we cannot control that the restaurant above us keeps a grease receptacle on the back dock, the rest is absolutely our fault. I wish that you would have called us. we would have been happy to remake what you were unhappy with and provide a refund. I know in situations like this it's easier to fire off a review, especially when you're hungry and disappointed, but please give the businesses a change to fix issues. We want to make it right. All the best to you- Amanda Mitchell-McGuire

Definitely COVID-19 safe. All of the staff were wearing masks and we were seated far away from other patrons. Very authentic German feel. We ordered the sausage and cheese board (pictured) and beers. It was amazing. We also ordered the jaeger schnitzel with potato pancake and spätzle, which was also delicious (and we shared because the board was insanely large). If you are on a budget or have an allotted amount for dinner, be sure to ask the prices of the drinks, because we did not and ended up paying $28 for two Limbecs. Overall, would recommend

Side dishes cold, server returned with replacements but cold again. We received replacements a third time minus the German potato salad, mostly microwaved, as we were thanked for pointing out the steam table was not working. Requested apple strudel with Gelato, received but without Gelato. After 1 hr 15 min were pretty much finished, wanted to here the entertainment. We were asked if we would move to the bar because there were more reservations waiting for our table. Before we could pick up our water and coffee, the only 2 available seats at the bar were taking. We paid and left. Wow, instead of offering to buy us a cup of coffee, you ask us to leave after 1:15.

Excellent food and beer! I have eaten here everytime I go to Hot Springs! Reservations are recommended (mostly on weekends). We will probably share a dinner next time (a lot of food) and get an appetizer. Dessert is a big YES, but for me it is "to-go" so I can eat it later in my room!

I've been to Germany and eaten plenty of food there. The food here is legitimately German in style. There are some modifications (e.g. the Pig Knuckle is more smoked than rotisserie), but the style really seems right. The menu has taken some liberties to update the food more to a finer modern dining style (but without the sophisticated atmosphere) but the food is very good and possibly better because of it. Server was highly knowledgeable on the German beer they offered and provided good suggestions, even for someone like me who knows a lot about beer.

Came to Hot Springs with husband for weekend getaway. We love German food and he likes German beer. We were disappointed in the fact they try to make the food more “American”. The appetizers were lukewarm and cold. The sauerkraut cakes were more like crab cakes but with sausage. The flavor of sauerkraut was hidden with meat and cheese. They did comp us the cakes because they were cold the first time and redid them but the flavor was still not good. The cabbage rolls were the best part of the meal. The “German pizza” had a thick layer of cheese on top so the sauerkraut flavor and caramelized onions were covered up. We removed the cheese and it was delicious. The bone in shank was tasty but not fall off the bone tender. The Brussels sprouts were hidden under a mound of cheese. The waitress was friendly and the staff was attentive. The chief needs to let the food stand out and not cover it with cheese.

We stopped at this wonderful restaurant on our walk back to our B&B. We had heard reviews that it was an excellent German restaurant and we wanted to check it out. The food did not disappoint. We had a HUGE Bavarian pretzel with beer cheese and mustard for an appetizer. Our main courses were what I would describe as "comfort" foods. I chose the beef stroganoff and the beef was very tender and seasoned good. My side dishes were spaetzel and red cabbage. It was my first time tasting red cabbage and I was not a fan. Mostly because I am not a fan of many vegetables! There was live entertainment - a nice woman playing the accordion, which made the atmosphere fun and festive.

Chose this place from a promising menu and the good reviews. Unfortunate mistake. We were told 30 minute wait for a table— it was 45 minutes. Seated at 7:15pm, drinks order taken within about 5 minutes. Appetizer order taken at the same time. 15 minute wait for drinks. 45 minute wait for one appetizer. Another 30 minute wait for our food after that. When our food finally arrived, more than half was room temperature. Some of it was great and high quality, but the potato pancakes were cold and rubbery. No apologies from any managers about the ridiculous wait times, despite the fact that they were are obviously understaffed and overwrought. Do not recommend.

Food and service started off strong with the wurst sampler. Four different sausages AND four different mustards. For my main I had the jagerschnitzel with a veal cutlet. It was cooked well, nice crispy coating and smothered in a nice gravy, but for some reason covered in a ton of sliced bell peppers not mushrooms. Were they out? Maybe trying something new? I didn’t ask; I’m one of those everything is fine people. I thought maybe that’s just how they make it here, but other pics showed with mushrooms. The apple strudel dessert was fantastic. Served on a bed of warm custard, they said it was homemade and it was delicious. Service got a little slow after a party of 7 came in.
