To celebrate my hubby’s 72 birthday we wanted to visit Hocking Hills State Park. We live in Indianapolis and we’re concerned about COVID-19. I found a hotel in Chillicothe that had suites with a kitchen. The plan was to fix our meals so we would...cut down on exposure to the virus. But hubs really wanted to eat out for his birthday. I texted Old Canal Smokehouse to check on what COVID precautions were in place. After many back and forths I made reservations for his birthday. It was a Friday night and parking was hard to find for these out of Towners. But when we entered Old Canal We were seated immediately. A very sweet young waitress was very attentive to us throughout the meal. My husband got the 1/2 rack ribs, salad and homemade chips. I ordered rib-eye, skillet green beans and creamed corn. Everything was great! The honey mustard dressing is house made, not bottled. The green beans were seasoned with bacon, mushrooms and carrots. Made from scratch creme corn was almost as good as my own. (HeavyCream and cream cheese sauce) I picked this restaurant because it offers so many sides, not just the normal baked potato and garden salad. To me, the sides make the meal, and here, they are the Hallmark of a great restaurant. As my husband said as we left the restaurant, “Totally worth the four hour drive!” We visited 9/25/2020 at 5:30 pm.More
