We had an amazing dining experience in the wonderfully scenic Bali Asli. Chef Dewa took us through a private cooking lesson where we prepared a traditional Balinese lunch, which we enjoyed open air overlooking the beautiful rice fields and volcano. A must visit!

We went to Bali Asli for a drink one day whilst staying in Bali and we were so taken with the restaurant, the staff, their menu and that wonderful view, that we had to return to sample their lunch. We were not disappointed. It was beautifully served with every dish explained. Tasty local Balinese food, simply done but so effective.... More

We booked a cooking class at Bali Asli whilst on our honeymoon, as we love sampling local cuisine and thought it would be great to be able to learn how to cook Balinese food. The day was brilliant from start to finish - we were greeted by Penny and her staff and given a welcome drink before setting off with... More

I think Bali Asli should be compulsory for any tourist travelling to Bali. The food served is authentic and delicious, cooked in a traditional way with an interesting mix of taste. Beautifully presented by charming staff who are only to happy to explain what everything is. The food is an opportunity to try true Balinese flavours. The experience does not... More

We were around Pura Lempuyang and decided to stop by Bali Asli. Next to having the best view from the toilets on this planet (believe me, you need to take a number 2 here), their food menu was authentic, the ingredients local and fresh. I also loved the home made beer! If you are around Amed, this place is definitely... More

Started the day with Penny the chef/owner taking us to the local buzzy market to buy some of our ingredients. She told us a lot of interesting facts about the produce and we sampled some of the food. Back at the restaurant we made our own offering baskets and learnt about the Gods and the rituals. With Mt Agur in... More

A trip to East Bali is simply not complete without going to Bali Asli. Description
Bali Asli is located in Gelumpang village, near the town of Amlapura, the capital of Karangasem regency, in the North East of Bali. About 2 hours drive from the airport, and 30 minutes from Candidasa village, and 30 minutes from Amed village. Nestled in the foot hills of Mount Agung, Bali's most sacred mountain, surrounded by rice fields, there is not a building to be seen. Bali Asli promotes Balinese cuisine and culture without exploiting it or it's people. We embrace our community, supporting those who fish, farm and forage in the near by fields, ocean and jungle. Our menu offers authentic Balinese food using a traditional Balinese style kitchen, cooking on wood-fired, mud brick stoves, allowing the real flavours of Bali to shine. Most of our ingredients are either grown in our garden, in our neighbour's garden or purchased from the local market The cooking school runs unique classes themed on "a day in the life of..." every class includes an adventure into local areas off the beaten track. Weather it is learning how to plant rice or plough with a cow, fishing in a jukung canoe and cooking on an open fire or making cocktails from cashew nut wine, our students always leave with fond memories and new skills to experiment with when they get home.
