Our party of three arrived around 7:00 pm on a Monday night. The front parking lot was full, but an attendant directed us to the back parking lot (turn down the road at the Pancake House and you will see an Alamo sign). There was a 50 minute wait for a table – there was plenty of room outside to social distance while waiting. Inside, every other booth was being used. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The portions were large – we each only ate half our entrees. The “side” salad is huge. Bread with honey butter is served to each table. We had the calamari appetizer which was a generous portion with a peppery, but thick breading. The surf and turf was very good – tender, lean, flavorful steak tips with a wonderful blue cheese horseradish sauce and a skewer of plump grilled shrimp. My only complaint is that you cannot pick your cooking temperature for the tips – they are well done (I would have personally preferred medium). The grilled salmon was also good. The burger was so high it was hard to eat, but was good. Prices are a little high, but not unreasonable for a steakhouse and you certainly got plenty of food for your money – we each got two meals from our entrees.

Good was good, I had the crab soup and while it was good it could have been hot as it was lukewarm. I also found it a tad fishy and wondering if it was canned crab meat. Rib eye was cooked perfectly and very tasty as was the baked potato, service was excellent. Hubby had the chopped steak dinner and Alamo potatoes he said it was excellent. Prices are a tad above average my 12oz rib eye was $26 chopped steak dinner was $20. Gives you an idea of the average price of the menu.

After my families death march to the top of Clingmans Dome in the rain, I made the only appropriate decision a man could make. It’s time to eat. It’s time to eat steak. It’s time to drink a couple beers. The Alamo Steak House and Saloon satisfies all these requirements with a nonexistent 30 minute wait for a table. Mind you this was Covid season and 30 minute waits were hard to come by. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the bacon wrapped shrimp was to die for. Even our daughter who is the most picky eater in the planet enjoyed her chicken parm. Who the hell orders chicken parm from a steak house. I digress.... being from the north east I was expecting to unhook a couple hundred dollars before the tip. Another piece of advise if you are intimidated by $200 meals, don’t have a family of five and don’t go to real restaurants. Also a shoutout to Jacob our server, very polite I know dealing with a small child in a restaurant is not the easiest thing to deal with.

Overall, the food was okay. There were 4 of us and only 1 person said they wanted to come back. My filet mignon had a super strong liquid smoke flavor, which they do not tell you ahead of time. The salads and rolls with homemade butter were awesome. The service was terrible. Our server took 20 minutes after our food had come to bring the sauces for our food. Needless to say the food was okay, it was overpriced for what you get, lacking flavor.

We ended up coming here for dinner late one night after spending a day in the mountains. It was 9:00 on a Saturday night, and this was the easiest restaurant for us to get to in Gatlinburg. Even at 9pm we still had to wait outside for 30 minutes before we were seated. Our server was nice, and you could tell he was tired by the time he took our order. He did a great job making sure we always had refills and that our meals were to our expectations. The food, on the other hand was just ok. My husband got a NY Strip steak, and it he really enjoyed it. My daughter got a fillet mignon, and didn't like it at all. She said it had a very smokey taste to it. I got a grilled chicken salad since it was so late. It was ok. The Italian dressing tasted like what you'd buy at the grocery store. The chicken didn't have much flavor to it. It was a very large salad, though. My son got chicken tenders and fries. He said they tasted really good, but was up sick all night after eating them. The prices are very expensive. The staff was friendly. The food was ok. If you like smokey flavored steaks, then you'll probably like this place. However, I don't think I would come back here again.

We had our expectations high when we saw the great reviews. I must say, our waitress was very friendly and personable but that was the only good thing about our meal. To begin with, I opened the napkin to take my silverware out and there was food stuck on the fork. Yuck! I tried to get past that and thought maybe once I got the food I would have a better opinion of the place. I ordered the sirloin steak salad and my husband ordered the hamburger and fries. We had some of their delicious rolls with butter while waiting for our meals. The steak in my salad was was way overdone and tasted like it had been previously cooked and then warmed up in the microwave. My husband thought the burger was "okay" but the fries tasted like they had been fried in the same oil as fish. I tasted one and had to agree that the french fries had a "fishy" taste. We left feeling disappointed and whished we hadn't got our hopes for a fabulous meal so high. The rolls before the meal were the best part, which is pretty sad for a restaurant that raves about how good their food is. Servers were wearing masks and tables were spaced appropriately.

We tried the Alamo upon recommendations from the Resort we stayed at, They had a By one get one dinner specials. We ha the Texas Taters appetizer. The best tater skins we ever had. Sprinkled with bacon, cheese, and green onions. Then we each had the Horseradish Parmesan Steak. OMG! This was great. We were stuffed, but, ordered the Salted Caramel Cheese cake to go. Absolutely delish!!

Food average. Server “wore” a mask but didn’t cover her nose - what was the point of wearing it? Husband’s steak was fatty, drenched in butter, and gross. My charbroiled Chicago salad had 2 cherry tomatoes, 3 slices of cucumber, overcooked chicken, and inedible bacon. Don’t bother going here.

First time trying the Alamo. I called ahead a couple of months in advance and made reservations for the love nest, which was a cute nook with a table for two away from the main dining room. We went on a Friday evening at 6pm and got seated right away due to our reservation. 5 minutes went by, no waiter, finally after about a 10 minute wait the waitress came by to take our drink order. She seemed frazzled but as the night went on service got a bit better. We started out with the bacon wrapped grilled shrimp. They were just ok, probably should have been left on the grill for another minute. I thought the bacon (I believe pecan bacon but not sure) and honey bbq sauce in the shrimp left an odd taste pairing. The salads were good; I got the basic mixed salad and my husband got the wedge. My husband got the 12 oz ribeye medium with alamo potatoes, and a side of sautéed mushrooms and onions. I ordered the 7 oz filet blackened medium well with alamo potatoes. Both of our steaks were over cooked; mine had no pink and was well done and husbands was medium well - more well than medium. Steaks were rubbery and the flavor just wasn’t there. Alamo potatoes were really good and very flavorful. For the price I would have expected better service and properly cooked steaks with food consistent across the board.

The food was good overall. We had more than 1.5 hour wait on a Friday night with Covid 1/2 capacity. This was at least the 3rd time my husband and I ate there over several years of visiting the area. We have loved it in the past but the food just wasn’t as good as it has been before. I got potato soup that I’m sure came right off the Sysco truck, husband’s steak wasn’t very good. Salads were good. Stuffed mushrooms were buried in melted cheese... could taste anything but cheese and if u tried to take it off, ur stuffing went with it. Server was excellent, I wish I knew her name. Checked on us enough not to be annoying, if we asked for something, she brought it right away... not the next time she happened to be passing our way. We went for excited to a bit disappointed.

My husband and I have eaten at the Alamo 3 times. We have enjoyed our each time. We have always had a wait, which we expect and will continue to expect. We have only ever waiting about 30 minutes, but the food is worth the wait. The last time we each got a steak and a side and salad with comes with the steak, the side salads are huge and have bacon on them!! Delicious and the steak was once again the best! We will be coming back!!

I ordered the prime rib, hubby ordered the Porterhouse. Both were cooked perfectly medium. The “sombreros” were super cheesy and the oysters were close to going to NOLA! Bread is complimentary and it was warm with cinnamon butter. My daughters loved it! The kids loved the toy that’s given to them for entertainment while waiting. Great service!! Beautiful ambiance, picturesque entrance. A must go!

We had to wait 25 minutes to be seated at a table we had noticed was empty the moment we stepped in the door. So, it was breezy. We could deal with that. Our waitress was nice. If we hadn't been so tired, grumpy and ready to eat, we would have chatted more. We enjoyed our soup and salad. We've never had crab dip with chopped tomato in it before. But the best part of the visit, were our steaks. His ribeye was a nice cut, not too much fat. My filet was tender enough to almost pull apart with just my fork! Very good, I didn't add a thing, just enjoyed the steak. Portions are good sized.

Don’t overlook this place if you want a nice lunch or dinner. We came for our 12th anniversary. The food and service were excellent. My salad and steak were both amazing and the rolls and honey cinnamon butter I would have liked to stuff in my purse to bring home, lol. My steak was cooked perfectly and very tender. Delicious. My husband had the chicken teriyaki and said it was great. In my opinion this place is 100 times better then the Peddler in Gatlinburg that people brag about. We went there for our 10 year anniversary and were severely dissatisfied with everything from service and seating to the food. (I posted a review at that time for them.) Alamo is my favorite. On top of that the place was exceptionally clean and they were strictly abiding by the covid-19 recommendations and were making sure to seat people with at least one table between them if not more. They also were offering condiments (like steak sauce) in individual packages instead of the “shared” reusable containers. If you come here, be sure to go down and turn on the road by the icecream shop as that will bring you around to where you can park directly in front of the restaurant and not the lot up by the main road. There are also some benches and a gumball machine with food for the ducks in the creek in that parking lot.

We are very cautious when choosing restaurants in Gatlinburg coming from IL, a state that hasn’t reached stage 4 yet, so no inside restaurant eating. Some of them have zero precautions and are still squeezing people in like sardines. We discovered a group of restaurants managed by the Johnson Group. They seem to all be seating at a reduced capacity (50% it seems) use paper menus they don’t reuse, all staff are masked, and keep waiting customers outside. When we realized Alamo was part of this group we were very excited, because it was a place we enjoyed in the past and hoped to visit again, but were unsure of seating and safety. They exceeded our expectations! The food was fantastic and we left with leftovers. So glad we were able to eat here during our trip. If safety is important to you, and in the coming months when the states that opened up with little restrictions start closing down again, you can feel safe that the Johnson Group did their part in Gatlinburg.
