Great old school restaurant! Not as touristy as some other restaurants in the area. Great Value! Staff was very friendly.

Nice small fish theme restaurant for delicious home cooked food and great service. So many fish choices and yummy dishes. Not much parking, we walked there. Highly recommend.
Amazing food, so many trout choices - absolutely delicious. Our server, was fantastic and attentive. We each tried a different trout and both were great. A small family run business, fun "cabin like fishing interior. In walking distance from the Margaritaville Resort. We will definitely...be back!More
Not good at all..desperately in need of a good cleaning and a menu update. I do not recommend at all.
Thank you for giving us a try Retrojan!
I had eaten here in 2016. It was excellent food and service. This year I came with my husband and two other couples. The experience was very poor. All of us ordered trout fixed in various ways. The trout tasted fishy, like it was old....One person ordered the onions and mushrooms as a side and it was mostly onions. The fries were good. The service was so so. I would not recommend the Smoky Mountain Trout house.More
Thank you for giving us a try P8408COconniec. We are sorry to have disappointed.
It has been over 30 years since my wife and I ate at the Smoky Mountain Trout House. Not much has changed over the years. The restaurant still has a wide variety of trout dishes. I had their blackened trout while my wife has hers...lightly seasoned with paprika and other spices. With you meal comes a basket of their homemade chips and fritters. We both has side salads. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience very much. Be aware the 2nd floor dining area is being renovated so the only dining area is on the lower level. So happy that this restaurant is still on operation after all these years.More
Thank you Victor! We are delighted you ate with us and enjoyed your meal. We appreciate your review.
My wife and I visited last year in October. Service was slow but we just chalked it up to being understaffed. Went again this year with mindset of being loyal customers. This time we were seated reasonably fast and given menus. But after waiting about...five minutes for a waitress to come get our drink orders, we began watching about four more tables being seated. Each table was being served drinks and complimentary hush puppies as we sat waiting - one table even given a second helping of puppies. I then decided to politely approach one of the waitresses about our situation. She told me there were other guest besides us (as if I didn’t notice that myself). I clarified to her what I had witnessed with the guest who were seated after us. Once returning to my table, my wife and I decided to take our buses elsewhere. We will never go back. BTW, the trout wasn’t that great the year before - just thought we would give an old restaurant some business. They don’t deserve it.More
Thank you for giving us a try. We are sorry to have disappointed.
A tiny venue with the feel of a family restaurant. The beer was cold, the homemade potato chips and hush puppies delicious, the cole slaw perfect. The trout was super fresh but the blackened had way too much salt and the Eisenhour hardly any. Okra...was way over breaded for our taste. The service was fairly efficient but surly to the point of rudeness.More
Thank you for giving us a try.
I ordered the Broiled Trout Almondine, but that night they ran out of almonds. So, the trout was heavily sprinkled with paprika which is quite not the same taste as almonds! I don't see what the higher ratings are for. This place is only average...and not a place for a special meal for the prized trout.More
Thank you for giving us a try Lois610.
Excellent food, great service and convenient parking. We each ordered trout made in two different ways….both outstanding!
Smoky Mountain Trout House doesn't take reservations. But It has a small parking lot across the street. After parking, we walked in and, seeing half the tables empty but not cleared of dirty dishes and cutlery, almost turned around and walked out. Turns out there...was only one waitress and no busser, so she had a lot to do. She showed us to the one empty and clean table and gave us menus. There's trout prepared numerous ways and a few other items like catfish. We both ordered grilled trout with french fries and cole slaw. For dessert we shared a piece of coconut cream pie. Beverages are limited to soft drinks and a few brands of domestic bottled beer. I had one, Yuengling's lager, imported from Pennsylvania. The fish was excellent. It's farmed and de-boned in nearby Cherokee and the chef drives down there several times each week to pick it up, we were told. The restaurant, in business for 47 years, probably has changed little from the day it opened with knotty pine plank walls and an upholstered hunting scene above, lots of real and carved trout decorating the walls and hanging from the rafters. It's a small place, seating maybe 30 people, max. The waitress did a great job. We left happy.More
Was nice to find a local place in Gaithersburg, no idea how cut & paste touristy this beautiful town is. SM Trout House is a small, friendly place with good food. My daughter had grilled trout, perfectly prepared, locally caught. I'm a vegetarian, salad &...baked potato were fine. Skip the chains & eat local.More
Fantastic hear Kerry G! We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your meal and visit with us. We appreciate your review.
A pretty disappointing experience. The food was very underwhelming. For a restaurant that specialises in trout, I was surprised that ours was overcooked and bony. But unfortunately it was the service that was the most disappointing. Our server was simply just not friendly and was...very disinterested. To top it off, when she gave us the bill we overheard her saying loudly to another server that her tip from us better not be bad after my partner and I were discussing between ourselves that the additional $5 charge to split a dish was a surprise. I wouldn’t bother visiting here if I were you. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area that do good seafood for a better price.More
We are sorry to hear of your disappointment Gigi16012810. Although we do pay extra to have our fish deboned the best they are able, the trout do still have bones. We apologize.
Food is limited to be sure but tasted all right. Nothing to jump up and about to be sure. And like the rest of Gatlinburg. No hot tea.
Very good trout. We tried the trout 3 different ways and the trout fritters. Everything was delicious and the service was great. Will be back again
