We absolutely love this place. It is tiny so either go very early and sit at the bar or get at a reservation. We have been going for to years to this chef run restaurant --- and we have only been disappointed once. Not bad....We love the tasting menu and the cocktails. In the warmer months you can sit in the level garden. The food is eclectic, interesting and challenging at times. We like all of that. Be prepared to spend -- this is NOT a cheap night out.More

This was a our second visit to Battersby,and as I recalled, the food is very good - we had a wonderful pumpkin spice soup to start. The other dishes were also quite good (although the rosemary bread was a tough and a little chewy). The...one downside is that the space is very cramped - so much so that it's hard to consult with the waiter about the wine menu since he can't quite make his way to your side - there's quite a list of French and Italian wines that I would have liked to know more about.More

The food at this restaurant is sublime. My husband and I had the 5 course wine pairing and loved every course. My husband is a foodie and said he had never had a more deliciously prepared salmon ever. The duck was poached and was so...tasty and tender. The dessert was sublime. The service was impeccable and the selections of wine were excellent. I have eaten at this restaurant befor and I have had nothing but excellent food and service! Don’t miss this little gem!More

Battersby is a special restaurant. Though it is known for its tiny kitchen (and limited seating), there was nothing about our meal that was constrained. Each of the five courses, as well as the amuse bouche and palate cleanser, were beautifully prepared and presented, all...in a reasonable sequence of time. The food was fresh, innovative and savory. The portions were just right for five courses. Service for the three of us was excellent. We were never kept waiting, never hurried. Walk-ins had to be turned away the evening we were there, so reservations are essential for the tasting menu. I also recommend the Battersby cookbook which is well-designed for the home chef with many tips and ideas about advanced preparation.More

A friend and I went to Battersby for dinner to try out a place I read about online, and overall, the food was just OK and the service disappointed. I looked online for reservations a few days out, and there were plenty of options. However,...I didn't want to lock myself in so we did a walk-in on Thursday night and they had availability inside and outside. We were seated promptly. Service from beginning to end was very slow. It took a very long time to get menus, even though the space outside was very small and the waiters kept walking by us. Every step of the process, from ordering drinks to being served was haphazard. Food took a very long time to come out, and the bread and the amuse bouche and the appetizers were all served within 30 seconds of each other after waiting for 25 minutes. I guess when it rains, it pours. While the food seemed thought out, the execution was a bit lacking. The seared foie gras was a good piece of meat, but it was not seared all the way and became mushy. A sauce underneath was very delectable. The lobster dish was a very generous portion but it lacked any type of seasoning and I had to ask for salt. The scallop dish was the best dish, it was also a generous portion as well as having the right amount of char on the scallop. Overall, the service came between having a very good meal here. With so many options all within walking distance, I don't think I'll be back.More

I visited Battersby for a tasting menu. Single dinner. Service was excelent, food was cooked to Perfection. Balanced flavors, and really nice presentations. Battersby is a MOST VISIT if traveling to New York.

The sign on the door reads 'open at 5pm' yet at 5:05 the hostess opened the door and greeted us with a rude 'yes?'. After explaining we were hoping to just have some drinks at the bar she informed us this was a 'drinks bar…'...and stared at us until we leftMore

Valentine's Day Tasting Menu was wonderful. Everything was made to perfection. The space is tight, but that makes for interesting food comments with the surrounding tables. Reservations are only taken for the Tasting Menu tables, à la carte is first-come-first-served.

My attempts at dining at Battersby have been wrought with frustration. I originally attempted to purchase a gift certificate for my daughter for Christmas. I must have left 8-10 messages explaining my request over a course of many weeks. No one ever called me. I...was told by someone that they did not take reservations, so in early December, we walked in about 15 minutes before they opened and were told that they had no seating available for that evening and that we could make a reservation for the tasting menu. At that time, we made a reservation for this past Saturday. We entered this small restaurant and were shown to our table past the bar, past table seating for 20, and opposite the kitchen in the rear. Our table was wedged into a tiny hallway which leads to a patio for summer dining. We might as well have been seated in the mop closet. We ordered cocktails (which were delicious) and the seven-course tasting menu. The amuse bouche of leek and potato soup was fabulous and left one wanting for more! The courses were as follows: 1. Artic Char w/radish, 2. Heirloom carrots, 3. Pasta Bolognese, 4. Pollock, 5. Sweet Breads w/ Caesar salad, 6. Lamb Tenderloins w/chestnuts and fingerling potatoes, and 7. a dessert of Panna Cotta w/mandarin oranges. I had also ordered the day's special of Risotto w/truffles. After all this we also had chocolate truffles. Overall the service was very good, but there was one incident when a server dropped a fork (tines-down) into my hand which was on my lap and she didn't even apologize. The food was truly exquisite, but the seating arrangement left a very bad taste in my mouth!More

Very close to a fifth star. Ive been here several times before but not in last few years. Sat at the bar - had the citrus salad. Spicy delicious.My wife had warm heirloom carrots with goat cheese - delicious. I had the steak, she had...the duck - both delicious. Food was A+ We got an excellent wine too. There is probably seating for 25 or 30 so it is hard to get a seat but also hard to find better food in Brooklyn. Think only that that keeps it from a fifth star was indifferent service. If you can get a seat this is a great place for a date (with the wife) or maybe two couple. No big tables. Not really a place for teh kids.More

My husband and I sat at the bar and I loved their uni pasta!!!! It is he smallest kitchen making great food!!! They have a backyard but it was too cold to sit outside but it looked nice. Cocktails we perfect as well, friendly bartender...and again food was fabulous!!!More

Delicious. Decadent. Delicate. So good. We grabbed a spot on the back patio and enjoyed the five course fixed price menu and delicious bread and two amuse bouche thrown in for good measure. We had an amazing meal that came out of a kitchen hardly...big enough for two people. Kudos to the chefs! They also easily accommodated one diner's gluten allergy and offered substantial alternatives, not just a pared down version of the original gluten dish.More
