Went around 2pm on a Saturday and was surprised there was no line. This is a must do place for filling, authentic Italian sandwiches. Had the Enzo sandwich with roast beef, broccoli rabe and spicy salad. Delicious. Nice outdoor picnic table area to sit and eat too. Amazing spot for locals but if I was a foodie tourist trying to... I was hoping for a taste of Italy, or at least NY style Italy.... I ordered 4 big sandwiches...$40 or so. Only one was pronounced good...the Cuban. Bland tasteless red sauce, not a hint of garlic or oregano, overworked pasty meatballs w/no texture on special no-taste bread. Mushy eggplant slices...the food is kept warm in a steam table. The roasted... More

Yeah yeah the sandwiches are great but seriously, is it me or back in the day every NY deli made a sandwich of this quality? Walk into any NY deli today and ask for a small hero. They'll take out the Boars Head Roast Beef out of the wrapper, then the Boars Head cheese out of the wrapper, then the... More

Okay, like about 95 percent of readers, I watch Food Network also and say "if I'm in that area...I'm going to try that place". And if you're like us it's usually a 50-50 shot that the place measures up. This place MEASURES UP. I was fortunate to land a project in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn right down the... More

HUGE SANDWICHES! Be careful of your eyes being bigger than your stomach. I was working with a customer in Brooklyn that knew Defonte's. They warned me about the size of the sandwiches. Glad I heeded what they said. I ended up with a turkey, muenster, on rye. Flavorful, with lots of meat and cheese. Customers had turkey & swiss and... More

The place is nothing fancy , but your not there to hangout. Its about the food and its delirious. The size portions are satisfying . If your hungry and in the neighborhood , this is the place to go. bob from staten island.

I am in Red Hook Brooklyn once a year and I stay at the Comfort Inn around the corner on Sebring St. Every yeah I look forward to my lunches at Defonte's - These subs are massive and priced well and most importantly delicious.
