Although everyone raves about the burger here. We loved everything else more. Wild boar pappardelle fantastic but come hungry its filling. The oysters are great skip the mignionette doesn't need it. Croquettes are yummy as well as blue cheese salad with bacon. Plus the staff...is friendly and welcoming.More

Ended up here on New Years Day through a variety of unforeseen circumstance. The service was friendly. They allowed my dog which right off the bat was a huge plus. The hot toddy’s were fantastic as the portable heater wasn’t yet plugged in for outside...dining when I arrived and took a few minutes to warm up. The croquettes were fantastic. The burger was huge. I will certainly be back.More

We came here on a slow night - able to get reservations for 9 pm, LOL!! The food is very good - we had the roasted fennel to start - which was delicious, and the the steak, which I think was a strip steak. I...agree with the other reviewer that the steak is not comparable to a Peter Luger steak - while it was well cooked and had a delicious compound butter accompaniment, it was just not as flavorful as other steaks I've had. On the other hand, the creamed spinach was excellent, among the best I've had, I think the secret is more butter, less cream. We didn't get the burger which most of the other diners were having - it's enormous and looks delicious - maybe next time. If you like French wines, you'll like the wine list, but IMHO there were a limited number of US wines with offbeat blends - we ended up with an Italian red. The gelato the couple next to us shared looked delicious! Bottom line, we'll be back - if we can get a reservation!More

Billy Durney’s ode to “old New York” is an instant classic. Stand out dishes included a divine burger, fantastic roast chicken and the wedge salad of my dreams. Pair it all with a lively natural wine program and I can see why there’s a line...down the block nearly every night these days.More

The owner of the Homestead, also in Red Hook, opened this restaurant where an old liquor store once stood. Be prepared to wait! I went there with my wife and son to celebrate his birthday. We waited an hour for 3 people. It might have...been easier for 2 or 4 people to be seated. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Great wine list by the bottle. Ask the sommelier for assistance. The hamburger was fantastic. Appetizers and desserts were also good. Enjoy!More

My husband and I were excited to try the Red Hook Tavern after reading the excellent review in the NYT. We went last night and we were not disappointed. We started with delicious cocktails, the bartender really knows her stuff. We shared the croquettes— small...portion, but bursting with flavor in a mustard cream sauce. We both had the Tavern burger and it was perfectly balanced and cooked to perfection. The space is small and very charming. Make a reservation so you won’t be shut out. Oh, and the service was very friendly and attentive, too!More

NYT recenty reviewed them (10/19) and it was a rave. The author compared the steak (for two - $75) to Lugars. That was a bit of a stretch but an excellent cut - nice and thick - perfectly cooked. Served with too much pepper and...I like the sizzle on the steak you get at lugars - but still - delicious. They had a baby gem and smoked trout ceasar - A+ Ham croquettes were swimming in the creamy dill sauce - which was tasty - but less sauce would have been an improvement. We didnt get the burger which is the big sell - next time. That is the headline - will certainly be a next time. Bar is for dining - no reservations under 4 people - so some standing around and there isnt really a place to do that.So that is a draw back. Nice wine list. Would be great for a date or with friends. Strong steak entry .More
