There is no doubt. If you want to eat in Brooklyn as in Greece itself you must go to There is no doubt. If you want to eat in Brooklyn as in Greece itself you must go to the the Athena restaurant. Spyros and Thodoras...will take care of you with the traditional perfect Greek hospitality. Excellent appetizers, many vegetarian dishes, a marvellous chicken mavrodaphne, magnificent cellar of Greek wines and much more for every taste. Let yourself be carried away by the opinion of the professional Greek owners and you will no longer want to go to any other Greek restaurant. Also with a broad schedule. A magnificent discovery. I´ll repeatMore

My son and I came here for lunch, and we were immediately treated like "family" by Spiros, the owner, who poured us a "Windex shot." Homemade hummus and pita were put on the table, and we ordered the Greek wine, which was refreshing. I had...a Greek salad, with homemade grape leaves, and my son had the moussaka with a Greek salad on the side. The food and the ambiance was friendly and inviting. Would definitely return.More

I was visiting my family in Brooklyn when we all decided to have dinner here. What a wonderful restaurant on 6th Ave. in Brooklyn. Sure, there are plenty of places from which to choose a fine meal, but this Greek restaurant is really worth the...visit. From the moment we walked in, the owner was friendly and accommodating. It's a small, quaint place, and while we ate here on a weekend night, probably before the crowd, I'd suggest making reservations, especially on a weekend. The menu offers a number of wonderful choices, and there are, of course, specials. It was really difficult to make a choice, but I was thrilled with mine. Oh, and that night offered a half price for a bottle of wine. Honestly, everything about the place was terrific, from the owner to the young man keeping our water glasses filled, to the service and food. This is not cheap eats, but it's worth every penny, as you'll realize with every bite. If you're visiting the area, as we were, be sure to check it out; if you live there and haven't been there yet, what the heck are you waiting for?More

I,ve always been a fan of Greek/Mediterranean food. Visited last Sunday for early dinner and fell in love with the service, the food, great selection of Greek wines and the ambiance of the place. I ordered the Oktapodi Scharas-grilled octopus served with lima beans on...a bed of lettuce with an Elliniki Salata-more like their house salad. I also ordered a glass of white Greek wine. The octopus was grilled to perfection and very tender and my salad was well prepared with an even balance of each ingredient. The food was fresh and nicely presented. Our server was a lovely girls, sorry I am not good for names, but she frequently came over to ask if everything was well. There were other customers dining there and everybody seemed happy with their food. Many from what I could tell were regular customers. We will be one of them! Athena is not the typical restaurant where you only eat gyros. Their menu seems very well developed and balanced with a nice variety of homemade Greek dishes, besides there are also daily specials. This is more like a mom and pop restaurant where you can tell from the first bite, that the food was prepared right after being ordered. If the wait is too long for you, just ask for a bottle of Greek wine, sip and enjoy while waiting for your food. Their bottles of wine are either half price on Mondays! We sat inside, I think they can make the outside terrace more appealing to customers, however, it would still be ok with me to sit outside on a cool day. Athena is definitely a place where I will return to enjoy one of my favorite cuisines!More

We had a delicious leisurely lunch with family friends during a visit to Brooklyn. The food was delicious. The restaurant has old world charm. The owner waited on us. The portions were generous and we could not finish eating them so had to pack and...take home the leftovers. The menu is different each day of the week.More
