We've just moved to Brooklyn from Manhattan and were looking for new places to try when we happened upon Caoba Lounge and Bistro. It looked promising enough until I saw that the brunch menu was an all-inclusive $ 35.00 per person. Ok, but there was...really nothing on that menu that interested me so I asked if they had a regular menu and was initially told by the waitress-cum-bartender that they did not. I asked for a few more minutes to scrutinize the menu. She came back after a few minutes and pronounced that yes indeed, I could order 'certain' dishes from the regular menu. So i ordered the $ 19.00 Salmon a la plancha while my husband ordered the $ 35.00 Caoba sliders from the brunch menu with crab cakes as appetizer and tres leches cake for dessert. We were informed by another waiter that the brunch dish came with either mimosa or sangria but my hubby is a complete teetotaler so he offered me his drink, Sangria it was. When it was served in a carafe I thought it was too much even for me, an inveterate cocktail lover, We asked if we could have another glass and were told that no, we couldn't share the sangria. WHAT??? To top it off, when I looked at the bill when we got home, I saw that they had already charged 18 % gratuity without telling me. So NO, she did not deserve the extra $ 15.00 tip.More
