Nasty counter service ladies. Sorry - I won’t be going back. Plenty other good places - and baked goods aren’t all that. Buh, bye, Felicia. No excuse for the attitude.

My husband & I were staying at a hotel just a block away from Serena Bakery. During our research before traveling to Brooklyn, we decided that we would visit Serena per the reviews we read. We just didn’t visit once, we were there three times...in four days. The bakery is like stepping into a beautiful European establishment. The scents coming from Serena make your mouth water. We purchased a variety of items during each visit, ranging from pastry items, bagels, & cheesecake. The day our trip ended, we baked a travel bag with a loaf of whole grain bread & loaf of fruit cake for my Mom; we also bought a ham sandwich on Kaiser roll with cheese & a bagel with cream cheese for the train ride. Everything we purchased from Serena Bakery was top quality & so very tasty. I wish the bakery was closer to our home as I would certainly be a frequent customer! If you are in the Greenpoint Area of Brooklyn, please make a stop at Serena Bakery. It will be well worth your time. Five star rating for sure!More

Truly a gem of a European bakery in the heart of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. A foodie destination for those who love to explore good eats in our own backyard. Who needs to travel far where cultural crossroads intersect with local appetites! Very authentic cause I felt...like a traveling tourist in Europe asking the attractive female servers what they thought was yummy & tasty. Most seemed like English was not their first language which made it feel even more European. Lucky I didn't whip out my leftover euros since cash was only accepted here, no plastics. Prices are very reasonable so no worries about seeking atm machines. You can handle it, right? Fair warning: everything is so fresh and tasty that we wanted to try some paczski donuts with some of their yummy well made coffees. They were so good that I went back on the ever non stop line to purchase a few more baked goods. So bring more cash if you are week at will for tasting gourmet baked cakes & breads! Just like the Seinfeld episode about who's got the Babka. Looks like I got the last babka here at SYRENA BAKERY today. What's even more interesting is that it's a RUM BABKA!!! I an already drooling like a little schoolboy in hormones overload. Happy Eating and I'll see you soon around the tables if I am in the neighborhood. Make it a destination, leave your passport and credit cards at home. Need to make this bakery a foodie destination and watch, you'll be back for more!More

Syrena is just a half-block away from the Henry Norman Hotel, where I stayed over Easter weekend. This authentic Polish bakery was packed with locals picking up breads and desserts for their family Easter celebrations. Everything I bought was amazing. Polish pastries aren't as cloyingly...sweet as typical American desserts. This means the ingredients shine through, a great way to make a breakfast or end a later meal. Loved it!More

I ate here every day during my visit to Brookyln, as my hotel's breakfast offering was poor. They have freshly made bread and bagels, with a wide range of filling options, and delicious cakes to also try and tempt you.

We stopped into the Syrena to get a quick pastry and fell in love with it. Totally non-pretentious with great pastries and bread. Not as sweet as German and not as flaky as French the Polish pastries were tasty and good without being overwhelmingly sweet....We loaded the car with bread for the trip home and it was excellent also. Most of the customers appear to be Polish and the first language of the bakery was Polish but we felt welcome and well served speaking only English. Wonderful smells when you walk by and they are baking.More

...loved this place, spoiled for choice. Friendly service and lots of great bread and goodies with some great European classics.

For many years I have thought that the best bagels came from Katz's or Zabars in Manhattan, then I spent Thanksgiving visiting our daughter in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn. Out for a walk near Jewel St, I turned the corner and inhaled. The only...aroma close to this had come from Silvercup Bread when I would drive over the 59th St. Bridge (Feelin' Groovy) but this was even better. I followed my nose one block to Syrena Bakery, a gem in this Polish neighborhood not far from Queens. Once inside I fought the impulse to just buy one of everything. And I might have been able to afford it. The prices are low and the baked goods are truly out of this world. The breads range from Polish babka to challah and everything in between. I ate there three mornings in a row and there were never fewer than 8-10 people in line, but because of the number of friendly and competent ladies working, along with the incredible variety of offerings, you barely have time to decide before one of them asks you, "and what would you like today?" But you have to have a bagel! These are perfect with that thin, crusty outside and a soft chewy inside; and the taste, is as good as the aroma. Syrena Bakery is absolutely a must if you're in Greenpoint or LIC.More

We ate there twice, once for proximity to our hotel, and the second due to how good it was. Very fresh, quick service and tasty!

Syrena Bakery Inc. was a pleasant surprise to walk into! It's an excellent Polish Bakery with many choices to choose from. The pastries are the best though. It is located close to our hotel so came here often.
