The food's fine, the bourbon list not as unique as they make it out to be. We were seated in a weird room in the back, blasted with cold air (on a cool night) .... service was warm and friendly though!

We hadn't ventured out into Brooklyn before so this was our excuse. The subway stops just around the corner at Bergen. We were drawn to this place because of the whiskey menu. And it didn't disappoint! The option of a taster glass or a regular...More

Went here for Mother's Day. It is a small venue with good service and very attentive staff. Food was good, small portions. Lovely ambiance!

The atmosphere and the food were great ! I got the Chef's Breakfast, which was eggs, a biscuit, chicken sausage and potatoes. For $22 I got that, a mimosa and some delicious puffed pastries. Great deal. My only qualm is that the service could have...More

We had Biscuit Benedict and Brisket Hash and they were delish - a bit fancier than your typical Southern/American cuisine, without being pretentious. The poached eggs were hands down, the best and most perfectly cooked poached eggs I have ever tasted. And the beignets were...More

When we made dinner reservations, we were not aware they offer delicious meaty oysters until 7pm for $1 each. We then moved on to juicy Lamb Pastrami and a flavorful slab of Bacon. Chicken Wings were underwhelming. Grilled Shrimp over Grits was flavorful and so...More

This place is rated as one of the top 50 Brooklyn Brunch places, which was the reason we ended up going there (also the alternate restaurant had a 40 min wait, which may also swayed us here). As noted by others reviewers, it really is...More

We were a party of five and one of our party was very late for our reservation. We were still seated which would almost never happen in comparable restaurants in Manhattan. The choice for brunch is relatively short, varied and very difficult to choose because,...More

I came here last Sunday for brunch with me and 4 of my friends. I was excited about this place because of the yelp reviews. When I walked in the decor was nice and the bar full of different whiskies that made me excited. When...More

Description
Char No. 4 is a whiskey bar & restaurant inspired by a passion for bourbon. The name refers to the practice of aging bourbon in charred new oak barrels, which gives bourbon its characteristic sweet, caramelized flavors and its beautiful amber hue. Char No. 4 features over 150 American whiskeys and serves a menu of American fare with a focus on smoked meat. The American whiskeys are augmented by an extensive list of whiskeys from Europe and beyond as well as a selection of all-bourbon cocktails. Char No. 4 is located in a 19th century row house in Cobble Hill Brooklyn. The design environment takes inspiration from this tradition in its treatment of light, its use of color, and in its nod to the form and construction of whiskey barrels both within the water-jet cut pattern of the steel facade, and in custom designed light fixtures. A field of large cylindrical pendants suffuse the space with a tawny glow that sets a mood of sophisticated conviviality for both drinking and dining.
