Small pub with a bar room and a seating room. Nice historic atmosphere. I had a simple dinner on a Sunday evening consisting of a tuna melt with crispy french fries. Looks to be a good place if you are a beer drinker.

We stopped in to have lunch before meeting the trolley. Service is good and the lone server was quick and efficient. It's a concise menu with traditional offerings. The salmon wrap was on the dry side - it could use an addition of some type...of dressing. The chicken salad wrap was tasty, served with battered fries. There's a pleasant outdoor eating area, as well as a dining room and bar area.More

J. Brian's is usually our got to restaurant. Their menu is tasty and filled with fan faves! They also always seem to have my favorite beer on tap, and trust me, that's a plus.

Stopped here on July 4th for a quick lunch. Sandwiches were good and food plentiful, but limited variety. Place was also very noisy...but it is a bar so can't fault them there. Wife's salad was large with lots of walnuts and fresh lettuce.

Great atmosphere and good food. Everyone was having a good time and congenial to each other. Real down home feel.

This is a cozy place that I've been to several times but not recently. It never changes. A small sized dining area. I was offered a table but chose a booth. It crowded on my visit, a cold Thursday evening. I was after a light...meal, so order the crab bisque (cup) and fish and chips. According to the on-line menu, the fish and chips doesn't come with cole slaw, but my dinner did. The fish (cod) was sort of bland, but that's typical, it's why the Brits (and this restaurant) bring a bottle of nice vinegar to sprinkle over it! Very nice. The "chips" or French fries were exactly right: thin but and crispy-cooked. Delish! But the real surprise was the cole-slaw. Not exaggerating: the best I've ever had. Whatever you order there: make sure to ask for the cole-slaw! The crab bisque was also delicious! Cream based. The wait staff was attentive but not overly so; just right. Pretty close to a perfect place to grab a quick bite!More

We used to recommend this place to others as a good place for a beer and a meal but no longer. We went in last Saturday night during restaurant week and only two tables were full. The place felt cold but it was cold outside...so we figured we would warm up. We ordered some food and after a bit it felt even colder. When our waitress came by again I asked if the heat was working and could it be raised because it seemed cold. She said "It's broken and I can't do anything about it, they are fixing it next week". It would have been nice if they put a sign on the door that said they were having issues with the heat. We were going to leave but since we already ordered and no one else was there we figured they needed the business. The food was fine but I think they could have told us up front that the heat was broken or at least took a little off of the bill. So, we sat with our coats on and eat and left as soon as we were done. We also sat in a booth that we had not sat in and on the wall is an intake vent for the HVAC that look liked it had a couple of years of fuzz and dirt on it. It was really unappetizing to view while eating. This place has gone down hill and it is obvious they care about their regular customers. We are not going back again.More

We've eaten lunch here on both of our visits to Fredericksburg and had a great experience both times. Pub food but well done and the drinks are great.

We headed by train to Fredericksburg while in DC for a change of scene for a few hours. A wise move. Though the rain made sightseeing a bit difficult, it did cause us to drop into this great little Irish bar and eatery. The bar...staff (and local customers) were incredibly welcoming and friendly. O’Brians has a great range of local and imported beers on tap. We tried a few and had no complaints. The bar staff were chatty and knowledgeable. We finished off with some great home cooked burgers - I would highly recommend the Hanover Burger - tender and juicy with a tasty chargrilled crust. Delicious. The bar tap was a lot less than we expected, but the welcome was so much more. Our only regret was that we had to head back to D.C. on the 8pm Amtrak. Highly recommend Fredericksburg and O’Brians ale house (great quirky decor).More
