We chose this place, pretty much on a lark because it was in a convenient location. WOW - what a lucky choice. It’s in a train station along the Amtrak line between Washington, D.C. and Richmond. It also abuts the cool, hip and fun downtown Fredericksburg shopping district (Caroline St.). You can take a train there (about $15 from Richmond),... More

Food was delicious...but soup was lukewarm, service was a bit slow, had to ask for water several times etc. BUT it was very busy on Thanksgiving Day, so I'm giving them a pass. We would definitely return as the menu was very good -- not just traditional Thanksgiving fare but also a really great German menu authentically prepared.

Located in the Turn Of The 20th Century railroad station on the south side of Fredericksburg(at an Amtrak commuter stop), the building is perfect for the application - 3 large rooms that used to be waiting rooms for the train turned into large dining rooms, large enough that a group of 30 military were celebrating promotions at a single table... Service was fast and efficient in true germaniac style. The food was great, particularly the pork special. With a great selection of beers, you can't really miss this place if you enjoy this type of food. Well worth visiting

We took some friends to the Bavarian Chef who've never dined there. They were pleasantly surprised with the decor, the service and especially the food. Thank you so much for a lovely evening!

This was a meal with a large group so the restaurant had plenty of advance notice. I was impressed with the service. Even though there were lots of demands on the wait staff at virtually the same time, they coped admirably. All meals were served promptly. One goes there for hearty German food and that's exactly what one gets. I... More

This place is well worth the trip just to see the building, it was the original train station that got converted to this restaurant. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. We ordered a kid meal for my 2 year old and the plate was HUGE!!! They consider kid menu 12 & under. Please keep that in mind. The food... More

....to have chosen this restaurant to celebrate our 33rd anniversary. The meal started nicely as we were shown to our reserved table by the fireplace that had a special plate honoring our celebration. The spiced wine was a nice way to ward off some cold temperatures. My wife ordered a salad with bleu cheese to start, I ordered an appetizer... More

We've been to both locations of this bustling eatery being fairly equidistant from both Madison and Fredericksburg. This location is in an re purposed train station, the frequency of the loud reverberations made by passing trains depends upon the time of day or night that one visits. We were early but they sat us down at a table immediately. They... More

Thrilled to find this restaurant. A former railroad station turned into a restaurant. Wonderful atmosphere with energetic friendly employees. Large menu with many offerings. We selected the sausage platter and split it. It arrived already split in the kitchen with ample servings for each of us. We each had 3 German sausages, each a different type served on a bed...
