While strolling down West River Street in Savannah, we were checking out the menus and atmosphere of several restaurants as we weren't real hungry but wanted to grab something to eat. We stopped by the River House Seafood restaurant and their menu looked appetizing so...we sat down at an outside table with a view of the river. Our server was named Michael, but he gave us permission to call him "Mike" as he said that we seemed friendly enough! Mike was very personable and friendly as well as helpful with recommendations! We chose the baked Pretzel with beer dip and my wife had a George Peach Margarita. We also had the Fried Green tomatoes and everything was delicious! The pretzel was much larger than we were used to and was perfect for our "mini-lunch". The Fried Green tomatoes were also very tasty and my wife absolutely loved her drink! She said later that she wished she had asked what all of the ingredients were as she would've liked to have tried to make one at home! Kudos to "Mike", our waiter! He truly made us feel like regulars, never rushed us and even gave us some insight as to what we should see while we were in historic Savannah! He made our visit to this restaurant a highlight of our trip!More

Wonderful location, great service and food, overall. The crab dip is delicious, a few more wontons wouldn’t hurt, but it is great. My husband and son had the MahiMahi sandwiches, I wish I had chosen the same, they loved them. I had the lobster shrimp...salad roll, it was so gross, I will not get it again. The waiter didn’t say anything, I didn’t say anything, just do yourself a favor and don’t get that item. I love the location, so I will definitely go back, but I will not get that shrimp lobster roll again.More

Our family of 3 had dinner here this week. We made reservations and were seated immediately. The service was wonderful and the food delicious. My husband had the filet, I had the lobster and shrimp roll, and my son had escargot and the lobster and...shrimp bisque. Our only complaint was they were out of two food items we ordered (salmon and broccoli). We will definitely be back.More

We were in town and this place was walkable from our hotel. It also had tables outside. This was the main reason we stopped here. We are not eating indoors. Staff was friendly. We decided to do appetizers. We started with dozen oysters. I think...if we had skipped them then we would be able to give the place another star. The oysters had no taste and were a bit dry. They came out in water not ice. We should have not eaten them after we both tasted the first one. We then moved to the lobster crab bisque. It was good. Then 1/2 lb of peal and eat shrimp and again something was off. They seemed warm and dry as well. Our last dish was the blue crab dip. It was ok. A bit rich for my taste. I had the moonriver and my husband had a few IPAs. Bill was around $100 with tip and tax. The issue is about 24 hours later we were very ill. I now think either the oysters or the shrimp were not 100%. It is unfortunate. We were too ill to really try eat anywhere else while in the city.More

We had reservation for a Sunday night but there were plenty of open tables. We actually like this restaurant - and service was excellent. I ordered the Grouper Oscar and when it arrived it smelled fishy. I tried the ‘white fish’ plated and it was...mushy -possibly frozen; thawed, watery when cooked. I can’t verify it was actually grouper as it didn’t have the flavor or consistency of any other fresh grouper I’ve had. Everything else was very good, just not the fish.More

Tonight, we went to Savannah River House Seafood. We were celebrating our 21st anniversary and my 63rd birthday. We had a fantastic birthday/anniversary dinner and look forward to this every year. Afterwards, we went to the bar for a cocktail. Dave was the bartender and...it seemed that everyone there was enjoying their time with him. My husband ordered a lemon drop and I wanted a drink they did not have the alcohol for. Now, I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted. The lady next to me suggested an orange martini. So, I ordered one. My husband mentioned it was my birthday. The drunk, severely drunk, woman on the other side of us suggested drinking more so I said, ”sure, set me up five tequila shots”. Moments later, there was a bottle of Patron in front of me with a large glass of what I thought was tequila. I was surprised and would have been grateful and would have given a HUGE tip. It was a glass of water and everyone had a great laugh at my expense. I was not amused. Later he put a “doggy box” in front of me and said to check it out. It was the lime wedge I tossed back at him from earlier, again a laugh at my expense. I did not tip well. Normally I would have given him at least a $20 tip for acknowledging my birthday. The restaurant was great, but Dave at the bar, Is a detriment to this restaurant.More

Came in from Fla. excited to see Savannah again for TG week. Two main stays two disappointments. Room was not ready upon arrival ( River Street Inn)at 4 pm check in time. Clean is an understatement. Not sure where all the good ratings come from....Shower edges full of mold and dirt. Iron bed bottoms filthy, behind beds filthy, pretty disgusting , so immediate turn off. Tired of paying good money for below average management’s inability to keep check on things. Go out to River Seafood House for number two strike out. Expensive drinks, cheap pours, horrible service bar and table. 50 minutes from app order to delivery. Entree were pathetic. Go elsewhere! No exaggeration just plain factsMore

Oh my goodness, when the waiter said the peach cobbler was the best thing on the menu, he wasn’t kidding! Must save room!!! Our grouper, snapper, lobster bisque and butternut squash soup were nice dishes, and anything less than (I got an incorrectly described side),...the waiter was absolutely accommodating. But the fried green tomatoes and cobbler were the best ways to begin and end our meal. Surprised at how quickly each course was delivered! We loved the setting off the cobblestone River Street with view of the river. Definitely a recommended stop!More

When you stop for dinner at River House Seafood, ask for Nicolle B as your waitress. She is excellent. Hadn’t had shrimp and grips in a while and this is the best I ever tasted. He grits are firm and very flavorful with bits of...ham in the tomato sauce top of the grits with beautiful pas seared shrimp. Our party of six had 4 different meals without disappointment.
