We were there on a Friday night, and the place was busy, but we got seated right away, and served quickly. I ordered the crawfish etouffee and was offered the option of a mix of shrimp and crawfish, which was an excellent suggestion that I’m glad I chose. This was by far my favorite meal of our entire trip. My husband ordered the surf and turf with veggies on the side, and the steak was perfectly cooked. The only complaint he had was that he wanted more of the shrimp because they were so good. It did seem like after we were served our waiter disappeared for a notably long time, in fact, they were gone for so long that I decided not to order dessert because I didn’t want to wait any longer. Other than that, I would highly recommend this restaurant, and would come back again if we find ourselves back in town.

We stopped in for a quick lunch today. I got the lighter portion of fried shrimp with a side of cheese grits. It was delicious! My husband was a little too ambitious thinking he could eat the bowl of red beans and rice. It lit him up and he couldn’t finish them.

Seafood omelet & bloody Mary was delicious. Staff were extremely helpful with friend's need for a dairy free/gluten free menu items. Kitchen was able to accommodate the special needs diet. The beignets are also worth trying. The restrooms were out of service but they had "fancy portables" outside that were cleaner than expected.

I’m so sad that our experience was sub par:( We canceled a reservation (at 4:19pm) at another restaurant because I was thrilled to try the food here, especially the beignets! We were seated at 4:15 pm and I canceled our other reservations while we waited to be served. At 4:40 we still sat unrecognized by any of the servers. I finally got the hostess’s attention and asked her to send our server. At 4:50, I flagged down another waiter and asked him to find our server. Our waitress finally came at 5:00, said sorry you had to wait and wanted to rush us into placing our entire order from drinks to appetizers to meal. She brought the incorrect drinks, never stopped back until the food came out and when we asked for ketchup and more water she disappeared to return with water when we were 3/4 through the meal and we again asked for ketchup. Ugh!!!! I ordered the beignets and coffee with milk on the side. I got black coffee and beignets with no praline sauce. 10 minutes later, 3 creamers were placed on the table….again not what I ordered. While we sat and talked during dessert, our waitress and another woman with long blonde hair stopped quite frequently to ask us if we needed anything or were ready to pay. Apparently they now knew we were there and wanted us to pay and leave. First and last visit here…should have kept our reservations elsewhere.

We arrived to Huey’s Thursday February 8, 2024. The young male host seated us quickly. The waitstaff took our drink order then our meal order. I informed the waitstaff that I have Celiac and am very sensitive and cannot have gluten/ wheat or soy. My partner has gluten sensitivities. I ordered well done herbed grilled salmon and partner ordered the scallops. Salmon and scallops both came out with a wheat roll on too of the fish. We asked if rest of meal was GF and waitstaff said yes. Salmon had some white creamy sauce on top which they said was a GF dill sauce. The dill sauce taste was bad - made me gag. The salmon was raw in center and bland/flavorless - worst I have ever had in my life! The dinner of 5 scallops were small and tasted mediocre. The crab cakes were loaded with filler and were only fair. The 4 th person’s cheese burger was good. Seating area had no ambiance and seats were uncomfortable. The meals were a POOR value for the cost considering the quality of food and also it was NOT fine dining. Would not recommend for dinner - it’s OK for drinks and a snack. We have live in Savannah for past 11 years.

The shrimp poboy was not good at all, only had 6 medium shrimp on a hard bun you couldn’t bite into so everything was coming off . We had the gumbo not that great. Suppose to be greatest beignet and I have to say was the worst! I have had them in Louisiana and a lot of places but this was not a beignet it was square fried dough and not even cooked all the way. It was doughy in the middle not a light breading inside it was nasty! Will not go back.

Salads came after entree. Pesto pasta swimming in gloopy sauce. Chicken tender plate presentation: just a few tenders on a large white plate (no garnish or anything else). Server never came to table after food was served - only to bring the check. Had to ask for a water refill.

Visiting Savannah and came here on Monday at 5pm. No wait and it didn't seem to be that busy. We sat and it took forever for our server to come and just bring our drinks, the server was also training someone, which I understand can be a burden on some servers, but it just didn't seem to be a good example for what they should be doing. The server and her trainee came by our table every 20 minutes or longer. Drink's always empty, simple things we asked for like spoons and sauces were forgotten about. We got our food, red beans and rice, two shrimp plates and a steak. The steak was just fine but I've had better from Texas Roadhouse. The shrimp was pretty pathetic. Maybe a total of 10 small, breaded, obviously frozen shrimp. Some of the least authentic "cuisine" I've ever had. The sides were the only good part of the meal, awesome garlic parm grits. We decided to get some of the "world famous beignets" to go because we honestly didn't want to sit in the restaurant any longer. And it took another 20 minutes just to get them out. She refused to let us go ahead and pay for our food until they came out. So we then had to wait another 15 minutes for her to bring our check back. The "world famous beignets" were big, dry, hollow pieces of grease-tasting bread with a obscene amount of powdered sugar. The only thing they should be "world famous" for is how bad they are. Pretty rough experience for $115 before tip.

Huey's is simply amazing! Alicia was our server and she may well be the best server my wife and I have ever experienced. This was not our first trip to Huey's so we knew we were having the BBQ Shrimp dish. It truly is a treat (if you're not dipping your bread in the soup you're doing it wrong)! We asked for Alicia's counsel on our entree and she didn't disappoint. We enjoyed our meal and her service so much on Sunday night that we returned the following day again being served by Alicia. My wife and I are 60ish and have traveled for pleasure and business for decades. Everything we were served was simply delicious. From the BBQ shrimp (twice in 2 days) to the Jambalaya over pasta to the Catfish Po-Boy to the Seafood dinner and then the beignets we can't wait to be in Savannah again. We traveled to New Orleans last October just for the food and had a great time. Yet, I have to say, we believe the BBQ Shrimp and Catfish and beignets we were served at Huey's were all superior to anything we were served in NO. Yes. The beignets were better than Cafe du Monde. We can't over-stress how much we love Huey's in Savannah. Oh - the price is right too!

We went into Savannah the other day and asked for a recommendation for a place to eat for lunch and Huey's was suggested. We were told it had good Cajun food so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant was pretty empty when we got there and there was a ton of staff in the back so the service we received did not match up. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our order to be taken and then, about 10 minutes later our waitress came back because she couldn't remember what we ordered and took our order again. By this time we had already waited 30 minutes and now had to wait even longer for our food. It took almost an hour for our food to get to us. As I glanced around the restaurant, I could tell we were not the only ones perturbed with the wait for our food. I expect that kind of service in Europe but not in the states when the restaurant is near empty and it was not during the prime lunch hours. My husband ordered the gumbo soup and I have to say it was the best gumbo we have ever had. The rest of what we ordered was mediocre at best. I ordered the rice and beans and my husband ordered the shrimp po boy sandwich, both of which were average and not memorable. I will repeat, though, that the gumbo was incredible. Once we got our bill and paid in cash, our waitress disappeared and never came back with our change, which was way over a 35% tip. We were getting angrier by the minute (probably waited another 10-15 minutes for her to return) and finally got up and left as she just disappeared. It wasn't worth making a scene over but we did see her watching us, hidden around the corner, as we left so she knew exactly what she was doing. I never like to bash a place, but there were too many things that just did not sit well with us from the minute we were seated. We are so easy going/go with the flow type of people but there were too many things that just seemed very off to us to just ignore. So buyer beware here. I think our feelings were very mutual with a few others in there that day. We felt like a captive in a tourist trap during low season.

First of all, the binets are a must to start your breakfast . . . or why not any meal!?!? They were fabulous. They don't come w/any sauce which seemed odd to me, but regardless! We went for breakfast & no one was disappointed ! Their bloody mary looked like a meal in itself . . . mimosas were served w/a small flute of oj and then the mini champagne bottle. Nice touch, great service and as far as I'm concerned, one of the best places I ate while on vacation! I heard this place often has a wait but thankfully not on the morning we were there.

Overall, the gumbo, beignets and shrimp salad were the stars of the meal. The catfish bites were also good but portion was skimpy considering the price. The fried green tomatoes arrived lukewarm, detracting from their potential flavor. And the wings were decent but could have benefited from more sauce. Our server was friendly but appeared to seemed a bit overwhelmed.

This is a spot we most likely would not return to. We popped in for a bite to eat and a few cocktails prior to the burlesque show at Mata Hari's. The wait for food and drinks was longer than expected and the area where were seated was very loud. When the food arrived, some of the condiments (au Jus for the sandwich, ketchup for fires, etc.) were missing or not provided. Not a big deal, if the wait staff are checking on you regularly. However, if they are not - well, your food will get cold before you have these items.

I think that we have been here every visit to Savannah. We chose outside dining because of COVID, but be forewarned that you sit next to the busy sidewalk outside. I would not advise on a weekend or busy time. People were walking by with beverages so of course no masks. The restaurant is a favorite for shrimp and grits, although I chose scallops this time. Our server took good care of us and we were happy to sit and view the riverfront. All protocols at the restaurant seemed in place, and we will visit next time! UPDATE: We are back and our visit was disappointing. Our shrimp and grits were good so a plus for the food. Our waiter took our order and only after our dish arrived did we get our drinks and the water which we had requested. I ordered a white wine and a red Malbec was brought. Waiter said that’s what I asked for?!! When my dinner was almost done, I got my correct wine. The check came with a charge for both wines which we had to request them to correct. This was just a disappointment!
