Savannah & Hilton Head.. historically, the playground and winter refuge of the rich and famous robber-barons of Long Island and New England. In post-pandemic April 2021: EVERYONE and EVERYONE is crowding this part of the Atlantic seaboard to get away from the cold north for...a break from being cooped up for most of an onerous 2020 ~ loooong lines for everything: food, entertainment, company, recreation, rest, sun, sand, water… Fresh off the boat (er… flight !) and waiting for check-in at our hotel to open up later in the afternoon, so, went off in search of local fare ……and found Huey’s. Right on the historic Savannah River waterfront, where merchant ships and slave traders once tied up to do business in the old days, and now huge, hulking, titanic container ships slink tenderly by (hopefully without shattering eardrums with their horn !) on their way to stock or un-stock their wares at the commercial docks upriver. Huey’ occupies a space in what appears to have been a row of commercial warehouses built for that back-in-the-day trade, and then abandoned and reincarnated as a lively and thriving arts, eating and shopping neighborhood, and typically chocker-block full of the usual tourist traps and a mix of fine, not-so-fine and junk foods & ice-cream parlors, etc., etc. This place is excellent for a light lunch.. and to be fair, for a lot more ! We chose from an extensive menu of (seemingly) authentic Southern fare, but probably disappointed our server by only ordering one drink and one order to share, though he cheerfully accepted our turning down most of his suggestions… sorry, Miguel S, but we had just arrived and were looking to explore and taste our first bite of Savannah. However, that first bite: shrimp & grits, was just perfect. Never tried grits before, and never thought I would like it so much. The shrimps were huge and absolutely fresh. In combination, the grits are a just wonderfully creamy and semi-gritty combination that melds so well while setting off the meat. Wish I could have gone back for another shot ~ but there were just so many places and so few days… Well worth the stop. Thank you, folks.More

Both of our seafood dishes were excellent. Service was timely and polite. The prices were in line for the quality of food and setting. Will eat there again on our next stop in Savannah.

Ate breakfast outside with our dog. Waitress provided water bowl for our puppy. Eggs Benedict and beignets were superb! Steak and eggs were cooked to perfection.

Place was very slow. And I understand that every place is short staffed right now. But we sat down for at least 20 minutes and when we sat down there was a table next to us already there. We asked after 15 minutes of waiting...how long they had been waiting. They said 25 minutes. While we were waiting the hostess continued to seat several other tables. When the hostess walked by we said that we hadn’t been seen yet plus the other couple that had been waiting longer. She said “ok”. 5 minutes later a waitress goes to a table that had just been sat. We and the table next to us got up and left. Will not be backMore

Of all the places we ate at, while visiting Savannah, this one was one I would go back to and give it another chance. We were lucky to be seated right away at a time when it was pretty full. The meal itself was tasty,...but for the cost, less than up to par, especially considering the quantity provided. And, you are talking to someone who eats without the means of getting full, just satisfied. Now, the service was on point and satisfactory, and this is a compliment, considering that due to the venue being full, personnel can easily be running around like chickens with their heads cut of. Maybe my luck will be better here on my next visit to Savannah.More

We went here while on our vacation a few weeks ago and we had breakfast here with the best beignets served with pecan caramel syrup. They were to die for and topped off our delicious breakfast meal. Our server was on top of everything and...had refilled our coffee frequently. We had a 45 minute wait even though we thought we were there early enough (9:00am). This is well worth the wait and it ended up being brunch by the time we finished.More

We were staying at the Westin where Aqua’s is a definite go to for a good dinner choice, but we wanted a change of scenery so we asked our server for some great local breakfast/brunch spots. Huey’s came highly recommended. We went for brunch. My...husband had the Fried Green Tomatoes and the seafood omelette. I had the ponchetrain omelette. When I say delicious, it was umm umm good! We had a good server too. We were so impressed we tried going back again on Memorial Day but the place was packed and the wait was too long. We were able to have breakfast there the next morning and again the food was very good. We had the binets with our meal. They were superb and served up nice and hot. Almost rivaled Cafe DuMo d in NOLA!Our server this time was average, but nothing to complain about. I’d definitely add this to your list of places to dine when in Savannah.More

We really enjoyed our breakfast. My fiancé got the crab cake eggs Benedict that had a fried green tomato on it with the garlic Parmesan grits and I got regular eggs benedict with their potatoes. We both loved our meals. I didn’t care for the...grits and he thought they were okay. The potatoes were unreal. I would go there again just for the potatoes. They had great flavor, texture. Service was quick.More

Got to the River early today to see the Marco Polo cargo ship arrive and afterwards, we decided to walk across the street and eat at Hueys. We'd been impressed and tempted by the delicious dishes we watched wait staff deliver to patrons and decided...that we had to try it for ourselves. Good thing we did, cuz we now have a new favorite in Savannah. Menu is extensive, with wonderful offerings. We shared an order of beignets, which were almost as good as those prepared by Cafe du Monde; our entrees were french toast, eggs benedict, a "name your own" omelette, and the blackened catfish with coleslaw. Everything was delicious, everyone was more than satisfied with their meals, and the prices were very reasonable - can't wait to return.More

My husband got the jambalaya pasta and I had the crawfish etoufee. The latter was for sure better. On the pro side the food came out very quickly. The service was just okay.

It's super casual so vacation attire (top, bottom and shoes) except for bathing suits and beach cover up would be acceptable at this restaurant.
