Papa's has been Making Hungry People Happy Since 1972. We take pride in serving quality smoked meats, fresh seafood and other fine foods. All of our bar-b-qued menu items are slow cooked right here in our wood-fired pit. Only the freshest Shrimp, Flounder, Tilapia and Oysters are prepared at Papa's. All of our Soups, Salads and Sandwiches are fresh made on site everyday and we also have a Kids Menu. Papa's BBQ & Seafood is a full service restaurant with a full bar. We can accommodate large parties and have plenty of free parking only minutes away from Downtown Savannah and Tybee Island.

Pretty good overall. Service was good. I got the fried shrimp,with red rice and sweet potato fries. 12 good sized shrimp was served with tarter sauce and shrimp sauce. Hush puppies were a surprise addition. Middle of a pandemic so there were several policies in place.

Wow what a hidden treasure!

Wow what a hidden treasure! We stay on Tybee Island and were looking for something different. Papa’s is a small place in a shopping plaza. Chelsey was our waitress and she was amazing. One person in our group has food restrictions and she was so helpful. She went above & beyond to accommodate us!! If you are ever near please give this place a try!!

Better than on the Island

Great experience and food at this restaurant just off Tybee Island. Greater variety of sides for fish or shrimp baskets, for the same or lesser price than restaurants on Tybee is what attracted us to Papa's. The menu overall had many good options. If we had found it earlier in our stay, we could have come back a second time. We enjoyed getting away from tourist-type restaurants and being where people who live there eat. They politely asked about checking our temperatures and only seated guests every other table.

Oughta take BBQ off the menu

Went to here several years ago and the BBQ was excellent, was in Savannah today, craving BBQ and said Yum Papa’s let’s go. Wish I hadn’t. After the mandatory temperature check, we were seated and began the wait. It was after 2, so the restaurant was not busy. The waitress went to all 3 of her tables several times, but we were not acknowledged. One of her tables that she visited twice was right next to ours After 15 minutes of sitting there I had to go ask the waitress if we were just the chosen ones to not be waited on. She was apologetic and said she didn’t know what happened. I do, you didn’t even look at us. Got our drinks and the waitress was quick to serve us our order. Onion Rings were the bomb. However; the BBQ was crap. Very dried out and inedible. I ate two bites. For a place that has BBQ in their name, you would think BBQ was Devine, but not this time. Big hunks of dried, burnt BBQ. All of it was a grey color. No fat, no juice and no taste. Almost afraid to give it to my dogs when I got it home. To add to the experience, I understand we are in the midst of a “pandemic “ but paks of salt and pepper and ketchup was too much. At this place you are paying well over normal prices for fast food experience. If I wanted paks of anything, there is a McDonalds in the parking lot for a great fast food place. I’ll never go back. Wasn’t an everyday customer, but now I know why. Now I won’t be a customer. Hated to spend my hard earned paycheck on that crap. What is wrong with you people? No service and definitely no BBQ

Just don't go! Wish I had read the reviews

After great bbq at Wileys, we wanted to check this place out. What a terrible disappointment. SERVICE: We stopped by for takeout around 5:30pm and the staff made us feel like we were imposing on them. We hadn't checked their website FOOD: positive was that size of the sides were much more generous than Wileys and their mac & cheese was really good. Red rice was dry like it had been sitting on a heating table since breakfast. Unfortunately, the "main event" - their pulled pork was dry and was worse than something that I make in our smoker. Smoke ring was nowhere to be found. PRICING: much less than Wileys but for the quality of the food & customer service, we would rather save up and pay for Wileys. Sort of like choosing to eat at MacDonald's twice a week or saving up to eat at a place known for their burgers once a month. Bottom line: avoid this and go across the street

Better options!

1st time trying. Shrimp PO Boy was served on a dry hard bun with nothing but tarter sauce and lettuce. No flavor and the shrimp were over cooked. Okra was also greasy and over fried. Green beans were squeaky and tasted like they were dumped straight out of a can with no seasoning at all. Sweet potato fries had no flavor and also greasy. Seemed to be the theme. The waitress was super sweet and we tipped her well, but the food was simply not good. There are better options elsewhere. Wish we had waited.

Sad BBQ

This place was kinda odd in that it said BBQ & Seafood on the sign. Since I hadn't decided what I wanted, we gave it a try. On the positive side, they did have outdoor dining option and good service. The menu options were okay, but nothing really drew my attention. So I ordered a pulled pork sandwich platter. Unfortunately the pulled pork was very dry, either leftover from several days prior or just plain overcooked. It's hard to dry out a pork shoulder, but obviously it can be done. Most places I've been in Savannah seem to do this for some reason, and I have not found any explanation for why. There has got to be better BBQ somewhere??

Don’t get the Chopped BBQ

Food is mediocre. Barbecue was dry. Only one choice of BBQ sauce. Menu said Texas Toast but instead the meal came with a cold store bought role that they just pulled out of a bag and flopped it on the plate. Hadn't been here in a while but someone said it was better now. It’s not.

Worth the Trip from Savannah or Tybee

Excellent bar b q, the combination plates also include a seafood-bar b q option. Service was great ! Appetizers to dessert, gotta eat here. Always a good sign when at lunch time the tables are filled with locals as well as visitors. can take out food as well. Yummy!

Papa Buck BBQ

Its farm house decor with booths, tables & chairs. They have Covid 19 procedures, customers are middle aged locals from Georgia and Florida. Lots of smoked BBQ. they have a sandwich "Radzilla" ( 1 lb. bun & 3 lb BBQ ), No way, but I enjoyed pulled pork BBQ.

Delicious food, excellent friendly service

We left savannah a week ago, but I promised myself I'd write the excellent review they deserve. We arrived late, almost closing, but without resentment the staff agreed to feed us and we were grateful. The food was fast and DELICIOUS! Bbq sandwich for the kid. Seafood chowder was fresh and tasty and hearty. You could eat it with a fork. Generous portion of sweet potato fries cooked to perfection. Staff were nice and seemed grateful for our business. You should try it!

Best Shrimp Salad I've ever eaten.

Was recommended to Papa's by a neighbor that worked there. Brought us some shrimp salad as a house warming welcome. I've never had such wonderful Shrimp salad. Hubby and I would drive 20 minutes to get there just to get a pound of salad for dinner. I'm so sad, we moved and wish I had the recipe. Will forever miss this stuff.

Bait & Switch

Ordered two types of wings takeout. Website offers 1/2 dozen, a dozen and a dozen and a half. Got 1/2 dozen of buffalo and 1/2 of lemon pepper. What we got was 4 of one and 5 of the other. Very disappointed in the response when we called about it. Jonathan said it "has been like that since he's worked there" also blamed it on Google. We used the online menu. Sad response from the employee. We're local and have ordered from them for more than ten years.

I was so pleased to find they had a vegetable plate on the menu! Not that the BBQ didn't look and smell fabulous... but, sometimes I want something lighter. That's what I got, too! Butter beans, sweet potato fries, red rice, and Brunswick stew - just perfect! Plus sweet cornbread as my "dessert"!
